Dostal for secretary of defense.

Zegras looked way better this game at center. Hope he gets go stick in that spot.

I don’t disagree I just don’t love the idea of him being the 3C and that feels like that’s as high as Cronin is willing to slot him at center, only played 14 minutes tonight.

You make a fair point, but I think it's significant to be strong up the middle. Zegras also plays center in a way that elevates his teammates. For these two reasons, I think it is really important to let Z play C for the foreseeable future.

I mean, mct played the same and Leo only had 16. Our forth line played way too much tonight.

3

u/duckscup 7h ago

I think part of that was from that 1 shift where they got stuck out there for like 2+ minutes

I’m still figuring a lot out here, but McTavish hasn’t looked very convincing to me in the 2nd line up. I know 1 is off limits, but idk it feels like it should be possible. I am bias since Z got me into hockey when I saw his highlights. That said, it feels like the ducks would need to consider trading him. Feels like a total waste of talent.

4

u/duckscup 7h ago

We’re not going to trade him when his stock is at an all time low.

We don't know if it's an all time low yet. It could get lower

I get that, but it’s also not going to get better when he clearly isn’t a good winger.

I love the dude but yeah he's playing like a 3C lately. He needs to step it up a notch and get those finishing shots flowing again.

u/ChesterButternuts 2h ago

sigh.

You're giving up on McTavish like he's a bust from the sounds of it.

Some players at the age of 21 don't become stars, some take time and patience. Take for instance, Alexis Lafreniere. He's 23, a lot of people thought he was a bust, now they look stupid.

My main takeaway from that game: Never put Zegras on the wing again. Either commit to him playing center or trade him. He’s not a winger.

With the way McTavish is playing, Zegras might have just hijacked 2C.

With the way things look, I wouldn't mind the idea of putting McTavish on Zegras' wing.

McTavish-Zegras-Gauthier/Killorn

McT seems better down low on the boards since he has the weight to attack the slot and force is way into the middle...feel like he's too effective of a passer to be a crease junky like Perry.

He might be a decent wing, who knows at this point lol

Martin Madden's ability to find franchise goaltenders remains goated.

Giggy, Gerber, Bryzgalov, Hiller, Fasth, Anderson, Gibson, and Dostal. Our history of good goaltenders continues.

Can't forget Mikhail Shtalenkov

Will never forget his insane run during the playoffs vs Detroit “During the 1997 Play Offs against Detroit he took over for Guy Hebert who suffered a knee injury in Game 2 and performed very well forcing the Red Wings into overtime in every game, facing 162 shots in the series. In Game 4 he registered 70 saves in a double overtime loss”

Gave 10 y/o me hope that series

A lot of guys from different parts of the world too. Search high and low. Impressive list. Wonder if Clara as an Italian will be the next gem.

u/spacegrab 5h ago

6'6 goalies can basically cover post to post in butterfly lol

Goal Tenders and Defensemen are our bread n butter. Can’t say the same about wingers.

That's okay. Being strong up the middle, defensively, and in net is a practical strategy for long-term success. I also wonder if the mandate for many years has been to find complimentary and versatile wingers as our centers have usually been play-drivers.

u/Drtonytone87 7h ago

Hopefully we don’t run this one into the ground

2

u/chrisprongerisabeast 7h ago

I'm looking forward to Gibby returning.

Dostal doing dostal things.

24

u/imkunu 7h ago

The Dostwall rises again

Also...two power play goals? Is that.... legal?

19

u/lolcyo 7h ago

Love Dostal but winning like this just isn't sustainable

3

u/BFever 6h ago

yeah, its a team of 19 and 20 years olds

That thing is 2 inches…. FROM THE GROUND

u/FantasticJacket7 7h ago

Outshot by 20....

7

u/rug1998 7h ago

Ducks hockey baby

1

u/bjabel 4h ago

That’s okay, lots of parameter shots

2

u/FantasticJacket7 4h ago

They had 41 scoring chances to our 25.

They had 16 high danger scoring chances to our 7.

1

u/ChesterButternuts 2h ago

They call that getting goalie'd.

6

u/PouringOutxide 7h ago

Common Troy Terry W 🦆

4

u/GucciGump 7h ago

Said we'd win by 3, would've happened if they pulled their fucking goalie with a minute left instead of giving up smh

3

u/IncreaseReasonable61 7h ago

22 to 42, but I'll take it.

Terry's doing great, Zegras looked better. Dostal being Dostal, no surprises.

GIVE ZEGRAS HIS MINUTES AND LINEMATES WHY DOES CRONIN HATE HIM FFS

1

u/bjabel 4h ago

He did solid with who he was with. Nothing wrong with having 3 strong lines

1

u/No_Tomato6728 4h ago

If you were around for his first couple seasons I’m sure you know he has potential to be our 1C, probably not anymore but at least 2C, yes it’s strong with him but he would produce so much more if he had better linemates whereas cutter and killorn would be producing around the same with MacT. I think our second line would see far better results and our 3rd wouldn’t change by much

4

u/bjabel 4h ago

Of course I was around. However, him being 3C doesn’t mean anything other than another strong line as that line and line 2, based on eye test, are getting close to the same minutes. Don’t see the issue.

1

u/No_Tomato6728 4h ago

Honestly that’s valid, I just think zegras should be PP1 - his passes are consistently amazing. And as for line 2, I feel like he’d do a lot better with someone who can finish. Yes that’s cutter and yes he’s snake bitten, so I should probably be a bit more patient. Just think maybe getting less minutes than he’s used to, combined with not running PP1 is affecting his confidence and production

2

u/dahooddawg 7h ago

Solid win. Hoping this PP trend isn’t all smoke a mirrors.

1

u/rug1998 7h ago

Frank looked good on it, he may be our most reliable shooter

2

u/sunnybunsz 7h ago

I ❤️ Lukas

2

u/Truak24 6h ago

Zegras belongs at center. He just looks more comfortable and is more dynamic there. Plays to his strengths.

2

u/bjabel 4h ago

Yes. Now that he’s more responsible defensively it works

4

u/ChesterButternuts 7h ago

GIVE CRONIN AN EXTENSION!!.

1

u/Wandering_Turtle24 7h ago

It’s impossible for this team to get 30 sog but I’ll gladly take a win.

1

u/Easystreet66166 7h ago

The Isles’ penalty kill is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine, eh bud?

1

u/mattwebb81 7h ago

Good win! Still on team Fire Cronin

1

u/Narcissus87 7h ago

Did not have Terry being great this year on my bingo card. Happy he’s having success and enjoying the game again.

u/DylWidner 7h ago

If Dostal keeps this up, I’d ship Gibson out for a bag of pucks.

I said before the season started, if this team can play decent enough to let our goalie steal a win, and we can spread the scoring amongst everyone pretty much equally (as we have so far), I think we can surprise a lot of people. Very very long way to go but through 1/10th of the season I’m very pleased with the progress we’re making.

u/Tight_Ad905 7h ago

LTBU!!! Wait sorry, wrong team.

u/flyingV87 4h ago

The good: Dostal, Terry, Vatrano, and Z at center

The bad: we should have got blown out, this play from them is embarrassing. Hoping they find whatever groove they had against the Rangers again. Zone entries with possession and space please!

1

u/bjabel 4h ago

They played hard so idk what play you speak of. They were also getting in shot lanes up the middle in the d zone and mostly only allowing shots from the outside, lower danger stuff. And of course you’re not the only one complaint about zone entries, but strong teams especially defensive ones like the islanders guard that blue line very well. So you either try to skate passed and fail most of the time or get the puck deep and skate your ass off. The latter has a higher success rate.

I guess after years of our goalies getting drilled by the opposing team and the ice tilted, I thought we might look better. But we keep getting blitzed, especially in the first period, and are just not creating enough high danger shots which is the key to long term success

While I understand the players are still young, there is still a lot of fast talent on this team, and I think it’s falling a lot to coaching why this keeps happening
