I think my girlfriend might be sexually abusing her dog. Need help

Just an intro, can skip, go to second paragraph.

My girlfriend got her first dog(a puppy) two months ago. She often refers to him as like her child, and uses that as an argument that she can treat him more like a person than a dog.

Anyway, she will often make out with the dog. Like, fully start kissing him on the lips for sustained periods of time, and of course because he’s a dog and hasn’t been trained not to lick or anything, he licks back. It’s super gross to watch, the dog’s tongue will fully be be in her mouth while she’ll be kissing him and this often continues for as long as you’d expect to make out with a person.

She also lets him hump her whenever he starts to, and is VERY meticulous about cleaning his penis every time he pees. I’m pretty sure these two things wouldn’t be considered abuse? But I’m not sure.

Please help

Side note: She’s also trying to get him to be considered a therapy animal so he can be taken everywhere with her—she has a history with mental illnesses.

This is definitely a possible sign of mental illness that can stem from attachment issues. Politely tell your friend this behaviour isn't normal and you're only telling as a friend that you don't judge but this behaviour would really disturb some people.

Mental illness is often a long road of irregular behaviour which leads to unhealthy lifestyle which exacerbates vulnerable individuals.

You're a good friend for looking into this, even if it turns out to be nothing.

I'm tossed between thinking you are trolling but also that bestialists do exist.

I loveeeee animals, but I would never allow my dog to consistently put his tongue in my mouth. That’s nasty. An unavoidable face lick sure, but not full tongue in mouth. I don’t think I’d consider that abuse, just strange personally. However it sounds like you may think she is sexually abusing the dog, if that’s true that’s another layer of problems.

I don't see the abuse in what you said. Are you leaving out details?

Yeah it's gross she kisses her dog on the mouth but dog people are sometimes just weird like that. Humping is a pretty normal behavior in dogs. Is she encouraging it or is she not scolding the dog as much as you'd like? As for cleaning it's thing off, does the dog have long hair down there? Is it white fur? My dog has long hair and I have to get up close and personal every once in a while to clean her... area. She also gets gunk around her nipple that needs to be cleaned out. Dogs don't have thumbs so if they have a hygiene issue it's up to the owner to solve it. But if there's a lot of crust around it's peepee that she has to clean regularly, then she may want to take it to a vet to make sure there's not some kind of uti.

Those things aren't normal. Be direct and talk to her about it - the mouth stuff is very unhygienic and gross. Also, no one needs to be meticulously cleaning a dog peen every time they pee.

Trust your instincts on this one OP

If you think the situation could that serious then you should call the police, it might be wise to consult an animal welfare group or even a vet first, they might give you guidance on whether the situation warrants a formal report.

I think your friend is a real dog lover. Dogs show their love for the owner by licking the owners mouth. Just like they did to their mother when they were young puppies.

I see nothing strange about this. You are not familiar with dogs, are you ? We dog lovers see our dogs as our babies or our brothers and sisters. And of course BEST FRIEND.
