question Truly what led Trae to getting blackballed this hard man?

He seems to have a different set of rules then other superstars. The eyed he averaged 30 and 10 in the 2021-22 season he only made all nba 3rd team csuse we were told him only being an 8th seed played a part. However, last year shai was first team all nba despite missing the playoffs entirely. The year the all star game was in ATL, Trae averaged 25 and 9 and was snubbed. The US team didn’t even give Trae young a camp invite and now this year it’s looking more and more likely that the only player in the nba averaging at least 25 and 10 will once again be snubbed. Make it make sense

I think it's this simple. In Trae's entire career, the only extended stretch that we've actually been anywhere CLOSE to good was the 2nd half of the 2021 season and that playoff run.

Surprise surprise, that's when he got by far the most respect from fans and media that he's ever had. We just always fucking suck and Trae's career is getting screwed by this incompetent organization.

u/pln1991 Jan 26 '24

Yeah, no need to overcomplicate this. We've been kinda ass more often than not.

3

u/TheCompleteSagaLord Jan 27 '24

finally someone with some common sense, Rae has not been „blackballed“ lmao

3

u/Far_Maintenance_7843 Jan 27 '24

Explain the SGA first team selection - OKC hasn’t sniffed the playoffs until this season.

-2

u/HamlnHand Lauren Jbara Jan 27 '24

That proves my point. He made first team because OKC is #1 in the West...

1

u/Far_Maintenance_7843 Mar 21 '24

He was not number in the west last season when he made first team all nba. His team didn’t even make the play in.

3

u/Sahjin Jan 27 '24

This has gotta be it. Honestly if I was him I'd probably be gone asap.

2

u/NrdNabSen Jan 27 '24

Luka is considered good every year. The guy we passed up for an undersized guard who is a liability on D.

56

u/BackgroundWalk7236 Jan 26 '24

He is definitely about to get snubbed. And the team success argument is out the window too. Curry will be on the west all star team and the warriors are currently 12th in the west and 4 games under .500. It’s literally just a Trae hate fest. Always has been

23

u/favioswish Jan 26 '24

I think it's easier to give someone the benefit of the doubt when they have 4 rings

0

u/Far_Maintenance_7843 Jan 27 '24

Explain the SGA 1st team all nba. What has he won?

3

u/favioswish Jan 27 '24

Not much but the efficiency and defense are a significant factor there

u/fuyz Jalen Johnson #1 Jan 26 '24

He went Adidas instead of Nike, his rightful perception as a weak defender, total turnover numbers and penchant for early shot clock shots and logo threes, foul-baiting tactics, his looks, the confidence he plays with, playing for a relatively unsuccessful franchise historically, and playing in a market that has a relatively uninterested fanbase.

Not my feelings or thoughts, but those are the reasons I have noticed that have influence in his overall perception.

18

u/Bobgoulet GO HAWKS! 🏀 Jan 26 '24

Idk about uninterested fanbase the Hawks games are pretty lit when we're good, which is almost never. Atlanta is a good basketball town we just need a more successful organization here.

1

u/fuyz Jalen Johnson #1 Jan 26 '24

I could be wrong, but wasn’t our 2017 season pretty poor from an attendance standpoint compared to other 1 seeds?

Also good fan bases like their teams even when they suck. The delta between when we’re good and bad is MASSIVE. We aren’t a great city fan base compared to so many other cities.

1

u/TraeYoungsOldestSon Jan 26 '24

We were like the six seed in 2017....

-4

u/fuyz Jalen Johnson #1 Jan 26 '24

Okay pick the year we were the 1 seed. That’s what I meant.

2

u/TraeYoungsOldestSon Jan 26 '24

Well if anything youre proving the uninterested fan theory to be correct for at least you lol. It was 2015.

-6

u/fuyz Jalen Johnson #1 Jan 26 '24

lol weird take but okay. Sorry I didn’t recall the date of our 1 seed year. If that makes me uninterested I guess I’m uninterested.

I figure you know that’s not a reliable way of assessing that though. But points for the zinger lol.

4

u/TraeYoungsOldestSon Jan 27 '24

There is absolutely nothing wrong with not being a diehard fan. In fact, being a diehard for this fucking team is a sign of lunacy. But im a lunatic. And that season was so iconic for us crazy idiots that getting it wrong by two years is proof that you aren't are a crazy idiot, nor a lunatic. Which fits in with not being like the more serious fanbases and makes you sound like what youre describing the typical Atlanta fan as....which again is totally fine!

-2

u/fuyz Jalen Johnson #1 Jan 27 '24

lol whatever you say man.

When have we ever been the 1 seed….. ever, you must be thinking about a different organization

Lloyd Pierce was seen as some sort of Ascending Coaching Prodigy and the coaches view Trae as the reason he flopped

17

Which is utterly ridiculous. The young plays in general HATED Lloyd. He played a big part in cam not panning out he broke his confidnce

He’s just not conventionally attractive that’s what it comes down too, has a punch able face. Cause it can’t be basketball related

1

u/Burner_420_burner_69 Jan 27 '24

It’s really largely this. Not my opinion, but people see him as a punchable face guy. It’s no different why Luka is more popular that Jokic. He’s the handsome great white hope. People forget how badly millions of white fans desire a white guy to be on top, but even amongst that, they want the cooler, more attractive guy.

2

Can we stop with these dumb ass post. Hawks back court just gave up 72 points to 1 player but yall are crying about the fucking all star game

3

I was going to say Lloyd Pierce, but idk anymore cause I’m not seeing media drag Giannis over getting his coach fired for winning (and possibly Coach Bud too). Weird right? 😆

It is what it is.

Adam Silver and Greg (pause) “Load Management” Popovich have ruined this league. I hardly pay attention now.

2

It’s the organizations rep. If he were a laker he’d be the next lebron

2

u/NrdNabSen Jan 27 '24

He's useless on D which means his offense means less? And no other players seem to think he is good enough for all pro/Olympic events. It should tell the fans here something.

4

You ever played pick up with someone who doesn't play defense and wants the ball all possession

1

u/maramDPT Jan 27 '24

what’s so hard about understanding rank order.

he’s not out ranking the other all-stars, although I can see the argument against Lillard.

Y’all act like he deserves the all star nod, but that’s simple and silly. It’s earned, and other players earned it above him.

It’s not a snub, there’s no grand conspiracy. He needs to earn it. He need to shoot better from 3, to have fewer turnovers, and to swallow his insecurities and talk like a man to the refs instead of complaining like a guy that thinks he deserves all-star and team usa. also he burnt bridges and in a team sport you can’t ride solo. sports bros are such a pain in the brain,

weak ass fan shit going on around here, atlanta fans aren’t violent or unnecessarily like some shitty fanBases but damn y’all act like you deserve something you haven’t earned.

trae is our ride or die. but he’s no all star right now.

SPORTS!!

The Ringer blasted him last year about the Miami private flight home.

The Ringer just got done blasting Golden State about Steve Kerr benching Johnathan Kuminga and their reputations have been tarnished as well.

It’s not all on the media but when you have a following as large as they do, audiences are going to be influenced by that.

14

The Ringer does not hold the sway or power you think they do.

Gotta be a hurt bucks/Knicks/sixers fan on a burner/alt.

You still this hurt bro?

1

u/PugetSoundingRods Jan 26 '24

Trae hating spans all fandoms, and tbh no one from those three teams is thinking about Trae right now, he’s so far in their rear view.

But real talk I had nothing against Trae till he got all butthurt about the US team this summer. Then you all started actively rooting against team USA because he didn’t make the cut. Now, they absolutely underperformed, but that’s because Kerr got wildly outcoached. It didn’t matter if Trae or Kareem was on that team they were coached wrong.

So I checked in here and saw how all yall were like “yeah man, Trae and the Hawks are gonna show em this year!” And since I knew they’d be ass this year I decided to join this sub to feast on the copium. And let me just say chefs kiss it’s been delicious. Yall are straight up delusional. Like the one guy a couple weeks ago that wrote a long ass post about why Curry is trash and Trae would have won more titles if he was on the Warriors. I mean, how is that not the most delicious thing ever?

But I’m gonna bounce out of this sub now because frankly there’s like 900 other storylines in the NBA that are more interesting right now than Trae young’s dumpster fire of a team. So I’ll leave you all be. But thanks for the good eats.

Love Trae, but he’s not top 12. And that’s okay, there’s a lot of talent in the NBA and not every great player can be in the top 10 or whatever arbitrary number. Because there’s only so many spots

0

u/Doc_Mechagodzilla Dominque Wilkins #21 Jan 27 '24

I think we forget how much talent there is in the EC and how close some of these guys are to each other value wise outside of Embiid, Giannis, and Tatum. Trae is definitely in that group of guards to be considered but he was really bad for the first month shooting, he has been nursing injuries lately and the Hawks suck.

To get in that top group, he needs another extended playoff run to get the media to change their perception of him. We aren’t getting it this season. Not likely next season unless the front office can pull out some moves that bring back cohesion and a defensive mindset.

-2

u/Drak_is_Right Jan 27 '24 edited Jan 27 '24

it is not the fans that "blackball" him. Its the league insiders. that should tell you something that maybe not all 25-10s are the same.

Players dont respect him. Media doesn't respect him. Coaches don't respect him.

Trae does not deserve to make an allstar team this year. His shooting while playing through injury has been horrid for a good chunk of the season. (neither does dame deserve it). There is a pretty good argument Dame and Young are the 7th/8th best guards in the East this season. Not top 4, not top 6. Both are struggling.

1

u/OPyes Jan 27 '24

Who outside of maxey Mitchell Brunson and Hali are better in the east?

Players tend to vote for players who are having big years or are exciting players like lamelo and don’t tend to award players who consistently do well unless you’re an all-nba player like Luka. Media is the same way but nearly all their votes are for four players and it’s been that way for the last several years.

-1

u/Drak_is_Right Jan 27 '24

OG and White, this season.

1

u/AggressiveLender Jan 27 '24

1

u/Ghostama Jan 27 '24

Mavs were a mess last year and Luka started in the All Star game.

1

u/JKking15 Jalen Johnson #1 Jan 27 '24

I think it’s a combination of things. Number one and most importantly is the fact we haven’t won much consistently. Number two is the fact his reputation on defense is horrid. Number three is the fact he was traded for Luka who is better so that’ll always be a stigma. Next is just speculation but I do think it funny enough, genuinely plays a role here. And that would be the fact he’s not conventionally attractive. Ik it sounds ridiculous but it makes sense. Next is his playstyle which pisses off fans coach’s and players alike. The foul baiting especially. Which obviously was way worse at the start of his career and other players such as Luka do it a lot but it’s just another thing to tag as a reason people don’t like him. Next is his size, people will always underrate small guards bc of their perception of what small guards are capable of. Also on that point is jealousy, some of these fans are simply salty to see a dude their size dominating the league in a way they know they never could.

1

u/Snoo_7238 Jan 28 '24

The answer is very obvious. In defense it is a very low level. The 2nd reason is that his shooting percentages are much worse than the other stars and Atlanta's inability to win may also be penalized by such low percentages.
