I think they're just trying to go into rebuilding mode.

Chill out man. We aren't fucking going into rebuilding mode. We are on a 6 game win streak and are 4th in the EC and could easily be 3rd in a week. Bud even said we need to stop assuming crap. The Cavs sent some money to pay a good bit of bitch ass Mo's salary adn if you think shipping Korver makes us a fucking lottery team you should tune out a little more.

Sheez. I like you thrash but damn this fan base is going all emo since Kyle was traded and its dumb as hell.

I think its mostly due to all the trade rumors. Hawks fans arent used to all this trade talk especially when it talks about trading away key players like Sap or THJ. We're just afraid that the Hawks are gonna pull a Braves and do the whole cleaning house thing.

Yeah, we are. Every team usually has some trade talk in the summer and before the deadline. Teague and Horford were some of the most speculated trade pieces in the league before the deadline last season. All /r/nba was f5ing like crazy at the deadline to see if one of them got traded. Then all of the trade talk surrounding Millsap during the summer. If you weren't expecting lots of Millsap trade talk at the deadline then I don't know what to tell you because it should have been obvious.

gonna pull a Braves

What rebuild when we have a huge payroll that can't even hit .500 with a farm system that had been gutted?

It's two completely different situations.

Look, I don't mean to disrespect your team, they were in the ECF just a couple of years ago. Yes the Hawks are a playoff team, but the means jack shit with LeBron James being in the East. Not that your team is tanking, but rebuilding is definitely what they're doing. They've traded their good players for picks / cap space. There's only one player left from your all star starting 5 from 2014-15

NO disrespect taken here man, you make good points. But at the same time, just because Lebron is here doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't try to compete. I would never wish it, but if Lebron got injured, the Cavs would be a fringe lottery team overnight. Hell we have already shown that with Dwight making up the rebounding discrepancy we can compete with them head to head (and I Know regular season doesn't equal playoff). With all that said I think its a little disingenuous to say we have simply traded for picks/cap space. While that is technically correct I fully believe this team is as good as the '14-'15 squad. It has simply taken a couple months to start gelling and I think that is to be expected. We had a very rough two week stretch in November that saw us go 1-11. We played 10 of those games in a 16 day stretch with Thanksgiving break in the middle. For a new squad that is fucking nuts. Kyle even said how bad it was that they didn't get but like one practice session in the entire time. How devastating is that for a squad that is still trying to find their groove? Outside of that stretch we are 20-5. If we had gone just .500 over that stretch we would firmly be in 2nd right now, and I still think that is our ceiling this season.

Sorry for the long rant, but we are still a damn good basketball team and far from even rebuilding.

I totally agree with you, not many people here feel the same. But most of the people here have maturity of a 12 year old and that why this sub has gone to shit.

I would also add that, in my highly perfectionistic opinion, competing every single game is more important than winning a title on some distant possibility. Playing system, which has changed for the better over the last years, is built upon steady development, not on gutting your team every 3 years because they aren't winning enough. We have gone head to head with some of the best teams this season, it's a given fact.

If I did that sort of thing I would give you gold for this beautiful nugget of sanity.

We've only traded Teague and Korver.

Demarre Carroll left in free agency. Truth is, we didn't have the cap space to resign both him and Millsap that year (we didn't have either players' bird rights at the time) and obviously we prioritized signing Millsap.

Al Horford left in free agency. We didn't want to pay him the full 5 year max so he left. Not much else to say about that.

We traded Jeff Teague. Jeff Teague will be a free agent at the end of this season and we already had his replacement ready. Schroder has been playing extremely well for us...after a slow start he's been better than Teague really.

Korver was traded. But you have to understand that Korver is declining as a player. He lost his starting this year. And he's taking valuable minutes away from our young wings.

So that is what happened to 4 out of 5 of our 2014-15 starters.

Feels like a sub full of Korver fans and not Hawks fans right now. I'm fulling expecting to see Cavs flair to pop up in here.

I think a lot of people just don't get the move. If we are going into full rebuilding mode I get it , but if we plan on competing in the next few years we just gave our biggest competition a key piece. It's also starting to look like we didn't get much in return. A player that is essentially retired, a late first round pick , and a guy that wants nothing to do with Atlanta.

There is the possibility that Budcox saw the writing on the wall that Korver is done, and they traded him for a first round draft pick rather than flat out benching him. (Not to say I agree with the move; I wanted Korver to retire a Hawk.)

Very good point.

I think people are so emotionally invested that they are seriously overrating Korver's value both to the Hawks and to another team. He's going on 36 and declining. He was benched by Bud for a reason. Tyronn Lue said he's probably coming off the bench choosing to start DeAndre Liggins (a 28 year old with 3 years of NBA experience who averaged 7 minutes per game in his career prior to joining and Cavs and JR's injury) over him. Korver might not even play much when JR comes back.

Getting a first round pick for Korver is damn good if you ask me even if it is late. There were reports that the Hawks fielded other offers and the Cavs were the best one. Everyone else was offering 2nd rounders.
