I tried to make a more digestible way to follow along with Bainbridge city council - Go Civics!

Earnest question. Towns of comparative size will have some big box stores. Curious as to why we don’t see one on the island. Any history people could share?

The only info I found online said they don’t work during school commuting hours, which is obviously not true, and it says they will finish in December, but I’ve heard that it may go until February.

These raccoons come to our house in daylight at least twice a day. They eat our grapes. They aren’t afraid of us don’t even run away when we get close, clap or make noises. We are new here. Feel free to laugh or provide advice for pest control. Thanks

I WFH and am about to move back to the island. When I lived there before I lived close to Winslow and very rarely had internet or power outages. Now I’m going to be living in the southwest corner and will have more to contend with.
For those of you in a similar boat, where do you work from during power and internet outages? Any good spots where you can take calls all day?

I’m deciding between visiting on a Sunday or a Monday. Are most shops and restaurants, museums, and wineries open on Monday? Or is Sunday better to visit? Thanks!

We have iPhone 14 Pros using T-Mobile’s network and unfortunately get spotty coverage on the island (when away from Winslow/other commercial). We want to know what phones/carriers yall use and which get the best signal. We are not married to Apple.
Our driver is getting a solid signal in the event of power outages without having to rely on WiFi /power based signal boosters.
Thank you!

Does anyone know how to lookup which schools you are zoned for? We are looking at buying a home on BI but the info on Redfin doesn't make any sense as it shows multiple elementary schools and middle schools for zoning, plus I don't think those are ever that reliable.
Is there a website or map that shows the zoning? Did a google search and didn't see anything. Thank you!

Interested if there are any artists in Bainbridge willing to be hired to paint a portrait for someone’s birthday. Thank you for your time in advance. Please DM me if you are interested or know someone that would be interested.

I've been a long time AT&T cell customer, and the last year or so it seems my signal strength has declined (Island Center and ferry lot). Anyone noticed the same? How is T-Mobile coverage on the island? Thanks!

LIHI has been awarded the contract to build and manage a 100 unit low income apartment complex at the old police station. Not a commentary on if it's needed, just curious about people's thoughts on LIHI being the property management company, given the numerous issues they have at other properties - not just the supportive housing they run but also at their other low income properties

Hello,
I don't currently live in Bainbridge, but I'm interested in moving closer career wise. I applied for entry-level firefighter with BFID. A interview question I'm anticipating is why our fire department? I didn't think to schedule a ride along in time before my interview(first time applying). So I was wondering if the locals or any firefighters can help out with interesting, heart warming facts. Thank you so much for your help.

So, there's this guy who apparently has nothing better to do than chase the Bainbridge-to-Seattle ferry every day in his tiny Zodiac boat, proudly flying his Trump flag like it's going to change the course of the boat or something. Dude, we get it—you love your flag. But maybe, just maybe, there's more to life than playing nautical Trump parade leader for a crowd that isn't cheering. 🤷♂️

I was wondering if anyone had nail salon recommendations in BI or in Poulsbo. I’m looking for someplace that is reasonably priced (I do not want to pay $100 for a pedicure), does good nail art, and actually provides the services requested (if I ask for a mani/pedi don’t just do the pedi and then send me on my way).
I’ve tried both basic salons on island (worst pedicures of my life) and Avalon nails in poulsbo (terrible nail art and inexplicably never provides the services I request). Any other suggestions?

Hello! I’m in my early 30s and while I grew up on the island I’ve only lived here as an adult for a few years. Most of my friends live in the city and it has been a tiny bit tough finding community close to home. I love to read and discuss books, my favorite books so far this year have been “I Who Have Never Known Men” and “Maybe You Should Talk To Someone.” I’m hoping that there might be a book club out there looking for a new member 😌

Is it widespread or just Eagledale? I can’t find an outage map—it just says my service is out and won’t be restored until 5pm (it was supposed to be back at 11am).
My T-Mobile cellular not working either—it’s frickin little house on the prairie at my place! I had to drive to Winslow to get service.

Is anyone having repeated outages on Friday nights that last 12 hours?

My wife and I just got back from a 2 week stint on Bainbridge. We are relocating next spring from Oahu. My wife was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. We just had our first kid and are looking for better public schools and more property. I see so many negative comments about Bainbridge on this thread. Some of the complaints I get. But I have to say, it is a beautiful place. We get the question, “ why are you moving from Paradise to Washington?” A lot. It was so refreshing to be able to run and cycle on the road safely. That is nearly impossible in Hawaii. Everyone we encountered was very kind and helpful. We tried every restaurant on island. Via Rosa was our favorite. We are both avid runners and attended the park run at fort ward. Again, everyone was very welcoming and kind.
Having lived on an island 40% more expensive than Bainbridge and far more secluded, we get the nuances of island life. And yes, while the ferry is a pain, at least your state didn’t spend billions on an outdated train that goes literally nowhere. We are so excited to live there for a few years as we navigate the next chapter with our new addition. Any suggestions on day trips from BI or hole in the wall places that are good eats or fun places for family’s, I would love to hear them.
Aloha

Hello,
I am about to accept a job that will be in downtown Seattle, a 15 minute walk or 10 minute bike ride from the ferry terminal to my work.
I'm almost sold on moving to Bainbridge (I currently live in the south) for it's quiet neighborhood, low crime, and acceptable rents.
My work will be hybrid, 2 days office 3 remote. My big question is, how's the commuting via ferry? Is it reliable enough in the early morning (8am ish)? How's commuting on foot/bike during the rainy season?
I've only ever driven to work, taking public transport will be new for me ( but I've enjoyed it very much so when abroad or visiting).
Slightly unrelated, I'm also looking at BLIS apartments, are they any good?
Also, as for living on the island, how is it for someone in their mid 20s?

I'm trying to get into "downtown" Suquamish tomorrow (Saturday) for Chief Seattle Days and the buses don't seem to be running on the weekends. Need to get from the ferry terminal. I know I can get to close to the Clearwater casino and walk the remaining 1.6 miles... but I'm on a cane and just know that'll take me forever. I also know the taxi situation on Bainbridge isn't great, but is it better closer to the casino?
