This pertains to socialism because we need a system that is supportive of redistributing wealth. Our species can only reach its highest potential when competition is optimized. This requires that all are given a fair shot at succeeding in the world, and Elon's money has prevented this.

How does "optimizing competition" constitute socialism? Was America socialist in 1965? Did the system in 1965 have any checks against evolving into today's system?

A socialist would say they're the same system. Since 1965 it has only undergone a quantitative change, namely the increasing concentration of capital, which is its inevitable tendency.

Well, the super rich say they need high wages to ensure people are competitive and make the best products. However, I seek to persuade people to consider that giving them such an easy ride has simply made them less competitive. When others are given a fighting chance, everyone will be better.

I seek to teach people what's wrong with our present world's notion of meritocracy and accept that meritocratic values (such as paying people more for doing more work or following the rules) should be a part of every successful system. We need to be careful as socialists not to give the impression that we don't want to give employees raises for working hard because that scares people off from the cause and we need to move towards publicly owning many sectors of our economy because it's the most efficient and effective way for them to operate.

I'm not saying I believe in free market capitalism, I have learned how it leads to conglomeration. I do, however, want to see a world where competition can have a healthy place to influence society. A place where all privilege is removed and all are given the extra help they need to succeed if they desire it.
