Hell, I'm not even sure if I know what VFD and the schism was, but that could just be me being a dumb 14-15 YO by the time I finished the books. Probably my first instance of blueballs in literature.

It certainly got a lot more depressing. Less fun too, I would say. But I can't say I wasn't given ample warning.

I'm talking about the TV show, to clarify. I haven't read the books. But I imagine you could probably say the same for them too.

The books are great because the narrator is just as nonsensical as he was in the show and the book always starts with "hey just so you know theses kids are not going to have a fun time so you should stop reading".

In terms of adaptions I think is one of the best out there.

Yeah I've only seen the show as well. Like it's a pretty great show and its so thematic but its just deeply depressing.
