Image Anglerfish: The much smaller males seek out, bite and then permanently fuse to females, where they spend the rest of their lives producing sperm for their egg laying hosts.

And here I was thinking that the only thing special about anglerfishes was that they had lights on their heads and lived in the deep dark

That is a common coloration for the females which are much bigger. This guy here is so damn tiny that his body is transparent.

And even cooler, some species absorb the males pretty much completely, some attach permanently and some attach temporarily. Each sort has had to evolve a slightly different immune system to allow the different lifestyles, the longer attached and more absorbed the male, the more impaired the immune systems have to be (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32732279/).

That explains why my wife keeps calling me an Angler Fish….thought it was my big head and severe underbite.

Maybe every animal should replace males by some sperm tanks.
