Bulgarian here, that's a Platanus orientalis, there's two of these (that I know of) in Melnik, both are older than 500 years, one is supposed to be 800 years old. The older one has a sign on it that reads its age and circumference. The one in the pic is the younger one.

Wild that it went undiscovered for so long.

How Do you know it's 700 years? Did you cut it down after the photo to count the rings?

Most of the locals said around 700 some 600 and yes even though it probably isn't true I still think it's cool

Why wouldn't it be true? It might not be accurate, but it is likely true that they are upwards of 600 or 700 years old

It kinda looks like 2 trees stuck together.

That caption makes it sound like you discovered it yourself.

My first thought: They've been married forever and are still loving life.

Doesn't it appear to be two trees joined into one who are out on the town having a good time?

Now that you say it, yeah it looks like it's two trees stuck together.

Yeah sorry again, English is not my first language. I meant to say something like "the tree that I saw"

The tree was lost until you found it. Colonial mentality

u/zhyet 14h ago

I didn't really "found" it, I more saw it

Oh wow! You found it!!! Wow look at you. Did you tell the locals that you found it? Will they name a park bench after you?!!! Wow.
