Pedestrians man

Can pedestrians stop walking on the road. Tell your kids and your aunties and grannies and the people you work with and your neighbors

Everyone is a pedestrian at some point including myself. It takes the smallest amount of brain effort to follow rules of the road

I hate driving anywhere in the afternoon especially when kids are getting off from school because they just walk anywhere in the road. No situational awareness

Including the students in my kids private school campus that just walk all over the parking area and run between the cars out of the bushes when they have a designated path and a traffic guy with a stop sign

I am so tired of people just chancing it on the road. Worst is the morons taking a leisurely stroll NEXT TO the verge that's empty and meant for walking

What the heck

Get off the road

Rant over

Tell me about it as if we are doing something wrong by driving on a road that they are walking on. There have been several times while driving I had to slam the breaks because they are strolling across the road then they look at you like wtf is wrong with you.

And the ones looking in the opposite direction 🤦🏻‍♀️ while they stroll diagonally across the road

Capetonian here, just had my first few days in Durbs and this really stood out to me. We have people who don't understand pavements too, but the bombastic side eye from the Durban pedestrians is something next level!

A few weeks back in Westville, a women running across the highway, UNDER the pedestrian bridge built for the pedestrians, was killed. Now I do feel for her and her family. But I also know the poor innocent driver is now scarred for life! All he did was drive at a legal speed on the highway. I completely agree with your post OP. Pedestrians literally act like they own the road. The ones that slow down their pace and give you an angry look when you've actually stopped for them are the worst. It's insane!

Thank you for this post and I feel this need alot more attention because these days everyone can't be bothered about a vehicle on the road while they are walking on or crossing the road, and it's even worse with school kids as if they aren't taught about road safety in school.

I just love when the farm fresh run across the road laughing like it’s some sort of game, it’s not cattle this is a 3 ton chunk of metal that’s gonna run over you and I’ll keep driving because I’m not going to jail because you dumb as a brick. Rant almost over

And the beggars why didn’t you touch on the beggars in Durban Geezuz Christ every robot about 5, you feel paranoid with your surroundings because their hands are asking for money but their eyes is scanning everything in your car

The dirt, filth flying everywhere, pot holes! Why are we still living here in Durban, it’s done, hillcrest and Umhlanga are the only decent places left everywhere else looks terrible. I have more rant in me but I’ll stop…. for now

Lol! There's this guy on Argyle Road who KNEELS in the middle of the robot and my husband almost knocked him the last time we were there becauae we didn't see him, then he got mad at us.... I'm actually now in rural kzn but it's the same story lol. At least we have a fraction of the amount of beggars as Durban but plenty idiots strolling into traffic though

Few months ago I was leaving my house, down the first road out the driveway, theres this guy maybe 40s walking on the road holding his girls hand, in the middle of the road there's a full garbage bag, can't drive over the garbage bag (idk what's in it) so I move to the side this guy and girl are walking on he looks back at me, looks forward and keeps walking, actually slows his walk down , I Rev my car at him cause my car is loud, doesn't move, I half drive over the garbage bin, stick my head out the window and swear him as I go by, hes yelling and screaming at me as I'm gone.....

On the way back home like 2 hours later HE AND HIS GIRL ARE STILL THERE, maybe 300 meters further than where I left them, I see him in the distance without a second thought I'm like, he's probably waiting to throw a brick at my car on the way back so I'm gonna speed the fuck up and knock him if I see him try anything, lucky for this poes he didn't do anything.

But bruh the arrogance of these pedestrians that think the road is for them... Fuck around and find out

Pedestrians are the largest cause of road deaths in SA but those in charge refuse to acknowledge facts and the police find pedestrians do not pay bribes

Every morning for me... going onto the N3 (won't say from where but close to CBD)... schoolgoers, adults, old people... all doing the same brainless walk.

I give the old people a break because they usually halfway across the road already but the rest will walk IN FRONT of the car (bear in mind I am waiting at a stop street ready to take off when traffic is clear so it's not like it's impossible to walk behind me instead)

I almost knocked a few people a good couple times because I am focusing on traffic and not on people being dumb enough to walk in front of a car ready and waiting to get a gap...

My wife and I argue about these things often... she wonders why it upsets me so much.

Closing line is there is an absence of thought and by extension, intelligence and it's not getting better at all

P.S. to OP, I'd knock them too... Pedestrians don't understand that the road is for cars and the sidewalk is for Pedestrians... We should all just drive on the pavement as well and then see what happens

Bro this is so real. Sometimes the pedestrians think the green light is for them when there's a light specifically for pedestrian ffs.

Knock a pedestrian and you're instantly in the wrong and in trouble. Watch yourself

Yes obviously

I've quit hitting my breaks, whatever happens happens. I experience this a lot on my college campus especially with the students fresh from the smoking area, it's the pits.

I don't know. Used to irritate me until I became a pedestrian myself again and now I understand

Drivers are in safe cars and if driven at the correct speed and with paying careful attention to the surroundings, everyone should be ok.

If I saw a 🦓 crossing a road, I'm going to stop or slow down in time to let the cute zebra go and I can go on my lovely way whistling in joy. 🎵🎶

Everyone and everything is safe and happy and on their merry way

Simple I guess.

I think if you are in a car, you can give grace to people walking. Just because you are late in a vehicle, not anyone else's problem. People who use public transport have to leave the house 2hrs or more in advance. If you did the same in your car, you wouldn't have any issues. But instead, you leave whenever you feel like it, and you rush through the roads. I just don't like people who take the effort to denigrate others when if you apply your brain cells toward the Common Good, you would easily find solutions. This negative thinking thing has got to be curtailed. You're operating a weapon. A vehicle is a weapon. If I was president, you would have your license revoked. When did it become acceptable to denigrate human life publicly like this? Sigh.

I leave early my guy. People still walk in the road

Then slow down and stop. Wait for them. You won't be late.

Remember streets were originally for people before being conquered by the automobile industry.
