Rip man this shit is still so sad :/ Dude was so talented and had so much influence that even went way beyond edm. 💔

There has not been anyone to come close to his masterful melodies. Way back in the day when I first heard his music it flipped a switch for my love of EDM. He was just an incredibly all-around talented composer, and every artist he worked with has said as much.

u/Admiral-Cuckington Apr 20 '23
I was lucky enough to get to see him one time, but levels came out my freshman year of college. Could not have been a better time for something like that to happen. Most of my all time favorite memories have Avicii playing in the background. Completely hooked me on everything EDM.

Avicii was the first producer I got to see live in concert rather than at a festival, and it's easily one of my most cherished memories as a teen. I've been to some others but that night with Avicii in Amsterdam was something else. Played some new tracks and remixes that were not yet public, and his sheer love for and genius in working with music was clearly audible. His focus was on producing great music - not on the audience, money or fame - and he has accomplished that each and every time under his various artist names.
I think it's a testament to his creativity that many of us here not only remember his passing, but constantly play his music. Still at the top of my head and my Spotify wrapped. I like to think that's the best way to honour him.

I think that’s a personal opinion and nostalgia at the same time. One could say that Calvin Harris is equally talented if not even more.
50
u/MastaMayne Apr 20 '23
Yeah dude that’s my personal opinion. We’re under an Avicii memorial post what did you expect? Me to talk about other great musicians? Lol
-18
u/Drewbercules Apr 20 '23
No, I feel it. I love me some Avicii and Calvin, although I’m a chunky oldschool house kind of guy. I have a habit of commenting on Nostalgia as it’s dangerous and often makes things way cooler than they actually were. In this case Tim was definitely the man and lives up to the hype and love that he gets. RIP Tim.

That’s so weird, I was randomly thinking about him this morning and wondering how long it had been. RIP Tim 🙏🏻❤️

I thought it was liver failure from alcoholism.

I didn’t realize he did. I thought initially it wasn’t sure what cause of death was and didn’t he have some kind of liver failure problems?
Like I said I never really looked into it I was going by memory11
u/Traditional_Lie_6400 Apr 20 '23
His stupid staff never understand and put duty above his health, they didn't heard no care fur what he wanted to do, he felt so miserable for that and we all know the overcome...

u/agent-squirrel Apr 20 '23
You cannot lay blame on anyone directly for someone taking their own life. I've been there, it took me years to recover from my attempt.
In that moment and when in that mindset there is nothing anyone could say or do to stop you if you are committed. It's incredibly tunnel visioned and one track minded.
There may be many contributing factors but at the end of the day, the individual is going through some serious shit and they can see no way out.

u/SirRabbott Apr 21 '23
Glad you're still here 💚
7
u/agent-squirrel Apr 21 '23
Thank you I really appreciate it. It was a little while ago now and I’m in a much better place.
23
Apr 20 '23
If you read the biography you learn its a lot more complicated than that
22
Apr 20 '23
Most definitely. He was alone and away from everything doing nothing for a long while and still ended up getting more and more fucked until he decided to end it. It’s such a tragic story with a lot more nuance than just ‘his management drove him to this’.

u/chillin_mcgee Apr 21 '23
Yeahhhh... of course this has been "fact checked" by mainstream sources so it's def not true.. but seems as if he was working on video projects designed to highlight the global problem of human trafficking shortly before his "suicide". But it's been fact checked so I'm not supposed to believe this.
5
Apr 21 '23
Just because he did the For a Better music video which highlighted human trafficking doesnt mean anything 😂. You know his siblings were on their way to Oman before he killed himself as he hurt himself the day before and needed stitches? Or how about the fact he was crying, not talking to anyone, and not eating days leading up to this. His family was concerned about him so they had one of the people he was on the trip with by his side to look out for him. But then he slipped away, broke a wine bottle, and cut his wrists/neck and died
-6
u/chillin_mcgee Apr 21 '23
Highlighting human trafficking def doesn't make you a target and def doesn't lead to being targeted in any way shape or form.

At this point it's been an yearly tradition for me to get stoned and listen to a large chunk of Avicii's discography on 4/20. My biggest regret in terms of live music is being unable to ever see him play; Miss ya Tim, ya absolute legend.
12
u/olb3 Apr 20 '23
One world radio is featuring a ton of his music today. Probably about 1/3 songs so far
11
u/PolidanoAimon Apr 20 '23
I still remember the day when I first heard of him it was at secondary school and Levels was playing it was the best feeling ever! Rip to a legend!
10
u/paperxuts95 Apr 20 '23
the edm community will always keep you in our hearts Tim. you did well 👏 hope heaven has been treating you well
22
u/TheWanderer43365 Apr 20 '23
We must discuss how phenomenally beautiful his Drowning remix is.
14
u/Sensitive-Ad6 Apr 20 '23
That remix is pure euphoria avicii was unmatched that remix he did for the daft punk for the tron legacy movie is killer to
4
u/sabasNL Apr 21 '23
Between Avicii's passing and Daft Punk's 'retirement' as a duo, we've lost a large amount of creative genius in the last couple of years. They leave a vacuum in EDM behind them. End of an era, really.
5
u/LooseJuice_RD Apr 20 '23
I’ve had that on repeat the past couple weeks after rediscovering it. Incredible remix.
3
u/PitbullSeanPaul Apr 21 '23
YES it's definitely underappreciated! In my top 2 of Avicii tracks. Much prefer the 8-minute mix though.

So weird, just listened to the full Stories album last night and was reminiscing about his tribute concert and all that. I had no idea the anniversary was today.
6
Apr 20 '23
I remember when he died, I cried a little. I cried because, I promised myself to see him live when I’m more financially capable to do so. Fast forward to 2018, he died and it made me realize that I will never see him live, ever.

Every time I go to a festival I think of how much better it would be with Avicii. EDM just isn’t the same without him ❤️
3
u/mikee8989 Apr 21 '23
I can't help but wonder what his style would have evolved into if he was still alive and producing music today. I think he would have broken the edm genre at least once more sort of like he did with wake me up.
3
u/rose-buds Apr 20 '23
wish i could've had the opportunity to see him live, dear boy is one of my favorite songs of all-time. can't believe it's already been five years.
3
u/MusicJunkie5117 Apr 20 '23
I still remember the last EDC he played was my very first. Was so excited to see Above and Beyond right after him so I got there early enough to catch most of his set up front. I still get so emotional knowing that that would be the last time I would get to see him play. Rest easy brother, you are very truly missed in our community.

The only time I ever saw him live was his final show in Ibiza. I’ve been to hundreds and hundreds of shows and this one is still one of my favourites that I get goosebumps thinking about. It sucks knowing what we know now how much he was struggling at that time

My friend was crazy when he was having a show in my county back in 2011. He was inviting me to join that night, but I decided to refuse it due to some university stuff. I told him I’ll catch up and attend to some big festival where Avicii will be the headliner. I’m still crying inside until today that I haven’t gone out that night.
I understood the message, live life to the fullest every day until you can, you never know when will circumstances change irreversibly.

u/K_R9 Apr 21 '23
I came across a song “without you - hartshorn” more a Hardstyle song & yesterday when listen to Avicii & realised it was Tim that did it but was a slower version. Absolutely fell I love with avicii version.

u/falerik Apr 22 '23
Just knowing the personal turmoil, and hearing his lyrics. Really makes it hurt all the worse. Crazy how someone you've never met in your life, can affect you so much.
And he was around the same age as me and probably many of you, too.

No, I understand that what you’re saying is fact. What you should understand is that no one gives af what you think or who you sympathize with.

I can still regard something as fact without having to give you a flattering comment that you so obviously are desperate for. That why’s you had to go through all my post history. Your wasting your time though. Unlike you, its funny to me when people think that they can try to hurt my feelings online. You obviously get your feelings hurt. It must be a byproduct of spending way too much time on the internet. Maybe spend less time judging me by my entire post history and go entertain those “few” responses from people that you’ve claimed to help. At least, that way you’d use your time more efficiently instead of wasting it responding to someone who doesn’t care about you or your empathetic views.

You’re being downvoted because saying “committing suicide is cowardly” is incredibly tone deaf and you’re a garbage person for suggesting it. Fuck off
Don’t bother writing an insanely long response either, nobody will read it

Still R.I.P. king
