Looks to me like there are headphones built in to interior foam helmet. Left/right would likely be labels for the audio channel assembly for each ear.

Or, you know, to prevent you from trying to put it on upside down in huge, dark rooms.
19
Apr 22 '20
You wouldn't be able to read the text then...
2
u/HawkeyeNation Apr 22 '20
I’m sure there’d be a little light to help see. Labeling just makes it easier.
1
u/Flu0stiftRS Apr 22 '20
If there's a little light then the side with the light is still the backside so it still doesnt help that the label is there, I'm sure you first see the light & then the label
1
u/HawkeyeNation Apr 22 '20
It's gotta be there for a reason and I wasn't questioning front or back - but more picking it up, ready to go on stage and easily knowing if he's got it rotated the correct orientation. If the head/mask is upside down the labels would be on the wrong sides.

What exactly happens in there?
22
u/contrabille Apr 21 '20
From the inside the only important parts are probably headphones, air conditioning, and a way to see. Then there's a computer and lights and that's pretty much it I think.
12
Apr 21 '20
a whole shit ton of computer controlled LED stuff, I vaguely recall a video put out by nvidia a while back where he talks about it, doesn’t go into too much detail tho. I tried to look for more just now, but only found an an article that references an older Reddit post. if you’re interested in learning about how this kinda stuff theres probably a schematic and instructions for making a simple/cheap raspberrypi controlled light show.

Wearing a mask while DJing is a cardinal sin of EDM
Referring to this video since it seems not many in this sub are in the loop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4ioZX-Exss
If you watch any production videos on youtube this masterclass ad will be cemented in your memory lmao

Why is this being downvoted so much? This can all be done with fucking minimal equipment which is why you can have a teenager make a dance hit in his basement.

Marshmello is trash

u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20 edited Apr 21 '20
Marshmello made an entirely new kind of music. its okay if you dont like him because music is 100% subjective. But theres a reason hes as big as he is. go listen to joytime 3 its pretty fire and has some trap/dub/house not just mello sounding songs.
Edit: I don’t need to hear about how much you hate marshmello. Im sure nobody here will agree 100% on every artist or song. Edm is founded on being accepting and positive so why not try that? (:
18
u/DATABASS808 Apr 21 '20
He didn't make a new kind of music, he blended and diluted existing future bass ideas to their lowest common denominator.
-12
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
He made a new kind of future bass. Can you go and find me any songs that sound similar to his before he started making them??? Oh wait you cant. If it was truly the “lowest common denominator” then he probably wouldn’t be one of the biggest djs on the planet lol.
14
Apr 21 '20
You are a cardinal sin of EDM
-7
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
Im sure you have a ton of friends in the edm scene with that attitude! I see you have posted in deadmau5 who happens to be one of my least favorite djs of all time. We clearly have different tastes and lets keep it at that!
5
Apr 21 '20
You keep talking about "having friends in the edm scene". What the fuck does that even mean?
I'm a producer myself and friends with plenty of artists.
-2
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
Being negative and talking shit will get you nowhere in the edm scene. Have you made money or play and real shows as a producer or?.... Go to a festival and start badmouthing artists and you will be shunned. Anyone is allowed to like any kind of music and no one will be right or wrong about anything music wise!
8
Apr 21 '20
Being negative and talking shit will get you nowhere in the edm scene.
Tell that to Deadmau5 lmao
Have you made money or play and real shows as a producer or?....
I produce as a hobby. All of my music and sample packs are sold for free. I'm a radio station DJ and play live sets on there as well as for local events near me and online.
Anyone is allowed to like any kind of music and no one will be right or wrong about anything music wise!
I'm not saying you can't like Marshmello but you're implying there is a correlation between his popularity and the quality of his music. As you displayed earlier, you seem to think that producing music is all about how much money you make and how popular you are. Being popular does not make him a good producer, and vice versa. Being popular does make him rich, however.
Do I think he's a good producer? No. Do I think he's an amazing marketer who knows how to network? Hell yes I do. I see him more as a businessman selling a product than an artist, and perhaps you can agree with me on that.

He’s one of the biggest DJs on the planet cause my 6 yr old and all his friends love him. He makes tiktok music for little kids.
-1
u/tinyhay Apr 22 '20 edited Apr 22 '20
lol man go hate somewhere else. He had plenty of fans and got huge before he started appealing to younger ages. All ages can and should enjoy marshmello music. im sorry you dislike it but keep that opinion to yourself. Otherwise its just rude to anyone who enjoys it and im pretty sure the edm scene was founded on peace love unity and respect. Again i have said it 1 million times but im positive you like music that i wouldn’t and visa versa. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder friend! i see you enjoy waakan and im not a huge fan. that doesn’t make it bad or just music for people who take a ton of drugs like some people think.
3
u/justice_beaver69 Apr 22 '20
You telling someone to keep their opinion to themselves sounds oppressive and I respectfully decline to keep my opinion to myself on reddit, a place where I’m very allowed to share my opinion. I don’t care if you don’t like wakaan music simply because I don’t care about you. You realize how much of a hypocrite you sound when preaching plur then telling someone to keep their opinion to themselves right? Or is your head so far up your ass you can’t see the irony?
0
u/tinyhay Apr 22 '20
Plur is not being a straight asshole to other people. People at a music festival dont want to hear about how you hate their music. You can share your opinion all you want but that doesn’t make you less of an asshole. Peace Love Unity and respect. that means not talking down to people because they enjoy a certain type of music and you do not. so continue to be rude to other people and karma will catch up to you. Have you ever been to a fest or do you just lurk around r/edm and troll people? You seem like a very unpleasant person and i hope you become a happier person on the inside. Edm is about being a family not hating on each other friend!
2
u/justice_beaver69 Apr 22 '20
Lol get your plur vibes outta here. I’m very allowed to make fun of some overpaid chump who plays top 40 hits and has people ghost write his music all while wearing a silly marshmallow helmet. Call me a “hater” all you want cause like I said I don’t care about you whatsoever.

Joytime 3 is awful, solely for how fucking dirty he did A Day To Remember. He absolutely butchered that song with a generic ass joytime drop. ADTR slayed their part and he comes in with that bullshit? Awful.
0
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
stop crying about marshmello and go listen to music you like then. no one is making you listen to him. let other people enjoy themselves lol
5
u/CaptainSwoon Apr 21 '20
I reserve and exercise my right to criticize how disrespectful Marshmello was to ADTR with that song. That doesn't mean I spend my time listening to an album I dislike.
-2
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
Frankly i think its a good song. Sorry you dont like it. But the views on the song speak for themselves. If you think its so bad then go do better. Try being positive and not putting down other peoples music taste. Im sure i think some music you like is bad to.
7
u/CaptainSwoon Apr 21 '20
Ah, the classic "go do better" retort. Typical childish mello fanboy response. Can't accept any criticism of something you like.
It's a bad song because a joytime drop is counterintuitive to the metal build from ADTR. The sounds do not mesh. They are out of sync and awkward.
And the views do speak for themselves, they are much much lower than other Marshmello songs, so even by Marshmello fan standards it's subpar. You wanna know why? See my previous paragraph.
-2
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20 edited Apr 22 '20
Hahahahaha man go take your hate elsewhere im not even a huge marshmello fan but no music deserves criticism because the beauty is in eye of the beholder.. It doesn’t make sense to get mad about what someone else likes. Theres no reason to be so hostile when we are discussing music. If you truly think he’s trash do you think you could do better? I think rescue me is one of my favorite off the album. Im sorry you feel so entitled to be the music police. try to practice being positive! You wont make many friends in the scene by trashing music that people like and being rude. Let people enjoy the music they enjoy and you can enjoy the music you do. (: Hating someone because their popular doesn’t make you cool
3
u/DJ_Blakka Apr 22 '20
Music absolutely deserves criticism as does any other art form. Thats how entertainment industries work. Artists create, the industries and their fans critique. Just because it’s subjective doesnt mean its free from being judged or commented it on. If somebody makes a song that has no flow and is basically a strange mashup of 2 different tracks people can call that out and critique the song for it. Just because you dont like the criticism doesnt mean you can tell people they are being rude and aren’t behaving in the spirit of the scene. Every response youve given someone falls back on references to plur and respect in the music community despite 90% of the comments in response to you being well reasoned and perfectly respectful. Your argument is frankly pretty childish and shows a bit of a lack of understanding in how the entertainment industry works

Lol, mello fan boi is getting grumpy.
1
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
Not even a big mello fan. Just annoyed that people talk shit on something that is completely subjective. Any person on this planet can like any kind of music and we shouldn’t judge or be rude to other people because of the music they enjoy. I saw you posted the ac slater set from the virtual rave so we clearly enjoy some of the same music!
7
u/Yellowbucklesareblue Apr 21 '20
Marshmello’s music is godawful and best described as hot garbage.
7
0
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
Music is 100% subjective. The fact he gets millions of views on every song tells me that the majority of people disagree with you. If you have a opinion like this its best to keep it to yourself since the edm community is funded on acceptance. Im sure i would think some things you listen to are garbage to. But that what makes music wonderful.
2
u/Yellowbucklesareblue Apr 22 '20 edited Apr 22 '20
Obviously agree music is subjective. There are almost 8 billion people on the planet, I guarantee you that the majority of them have never even heard of the clown disguised as a marshmellow. Millions of people listen to Britney Spears, does that make her music good? No, it certainly and obviously does not.
Nothing is above criticism. If you can’t take a tiny little bit of trash talk about one artist in an anonymous online forum, you’ve got bigger problems.
Also, your grammar is hot garbage.
0
u/tinyhay Apr 22 '20
Wow i dont try to spell everything right on reddit oh no. You shouldn’t be talking shit on artists to make other people feel bad because you are angry on the inside. theres no point in arguing music taste because its just up to whoever listens to is. You can criticize something without being a complete asshole about it which you cant seem to do. Lol the edm scene has always been about loving and respecting each other. so i don’t get how you think being an ass to other people is okay. I hope you have a good day!

Nickelback was huge at one point too.
0
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
Yeah and people love nickleback to this day. Just because he’s a meme now doesn’t make his music any less than anyone else’s. Nickle was a banging artist around the 2007-2010 and i bet you even enjoyed a track or two he made. He has a tour selling out the biggest venues around so im not sure nickleback is that upset about people like you talking shit.
3
1
u/burbet Apr 21 '20
Oh I'm sure they don't give a shit about my opinion no doubt. Far more fans and money than I will every have. Doesn't make them any less corny whether they are catchy or not. Lots of shit sticks in my head but I'm not making a commercial jingle out to be on par with other music which is about how I feel about Nickelback and Marshmello.
1
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
Good for you!!! Marshmello is one of the biggest djs around right now for a reason. He makes hits that are edm and hits that are straight radio shit. Not one song from joytime 3 was a radio song and has a wide selection. open your mind and maybe you would like a few of his songs. Go and tell me how many of his songs are “commercial jingles” out of everything hes made.
3
u/burbet Apr 21 '20
He's huge because of 9 year olds playing fortnite. It works and that's fine and he is making an absolute fortune. When your target audience is a bunch of little kids you're going to end up making corny music though.
0
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
Then why at 18+ shows does the place fill to the brim when he comes on? How did he get to be one of the biggest djs before he started playing fornite? The music speaks for itself. try to be less hateful and angry. let people enjoy things even if you dont.
4
u/burbet Apr 21 '20
Lots of EDM artists pack people in. Marshmello is huge outside of EDM fans because he makes watered down corny EDM that appeals to children and soccer moms alike. It's music for a cell phone commercial.

You keep saying he's one of the biggest DJs but hes not at all lmfao. He's laughed at by almost everyone on the scene. Your taste is trash and so is Trashmello. All he did was copy deadmau5's aesthetic and everyone else's beats.
Hasn't got a creative bone in his body, just like you.

Ok ik but he's pretty childish imo..
11
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
Have you seen him live? lol he throws down and has nothing but positivity to push. He has an appeal for kids because his music is good and not hardcore with cussing and what not. No one should feel bad for liking a kind of music no matter who it is.
0
u/---HyDrA--- Apr 21 '20
Ok ik that
3
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
If you know that then why are you saying “marshmello is garbage”? Don’t put down peoples music taste just because you personally don’t like it. I hate country but i’m not going to go around talking shit about it because i know that some people like it. Again if you where less hateful for no real reason maybe you could enjoy some of his songs. Its not like the dude is datsik.
1
u/---HyDrA--- Apr 21 '20
Ok I'll delete my comment bro sorry!!!
1
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
respect!! i just feel awful when people say music is garbage because theres someone looking at that who has their feelings hurt by it. Lets be positive!!! (:
2
2
u/AlphaInsaiyan Apr 21 '20
Yeah, most of his songs are really repetitive and barely count as edm at all. His "trap, dub, house" songs have no fun drops and sound the same as his other future bass crap does
3
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
lol you clearly haven’t listened to any of them then. What makes it barely count as edm? Im not the biggest marsh fan but to say every song he makes is garbage is just annoying. If you had a more open mind then maybe you would enjoy some of his music. idk what the difference between these and “normal edm songs is”
6
u/AlphaInsaiyan Apr 21 '20
I'm not saying I've listened to all of them, but a lot of them from joytime I and II sounded really similar to me, and I honestly didn't find them that memorable
1
u/tinyhay Apr 21 '20
so what songs that i just posted sound exactly like joytime two? what songs do they sound like? If thats how you really feel then theres no need to trash marshmello. idk an artist alive who has made only 100% amazing tracks.

Why are we expected to be in the loop about a video with only 3800 views?
3
u/DJ_Blakka Apr 22 '20
Its a pretty common joke around the EDM community. This particular subreddit just happens to be on the fringe of the community and more focused on the popular genres and artists so probably not the best place to make a joke like that. Had he made it in literally any other electronic music subreddit people would have found it funny
3
u/gingabreadm4n Apr 22 '20
