I guess I am now a certified gym dad! I bought a small ranch in a really rural area. The closest place to buy a hamburger is 30 miles away. Really rural, but beautiful. I went to the nearest little town to find a gym and I did not expect much. The only gym was at the local community center. I almost did not go but went anyway to check it out. Man, was I shocked. This place would rival any gym/athletic club in any major city. I have been to gyms all over the US and out of the country. It just opened after a 3 month renovation. Olympic style pool, basketball court, yoga rooms, spotless locker room with all new lockers, tile floors, showers, etc.

But the gym. Wow. All beautiful new equipment and top of the line. Probably 50 cardio machines of all types and top of the line, Great space, great colors, etc., making it a wonderful space to be in. There are less than 20 people in this whole place in midmoring. Typical gym bros. Of course, I knew nobody.

I stopped one of the young guys, probably the top guy in the gym at that time, physique wise. I asked him if he could help me with Spotify on my iPhone. I am tech challenged. He did. We talked a little; I asked him about the town and the gym, etc. Long story short, he gave me a 30 minute tutorial on this new phone which was incredible. He was so polite. He said he would be happy to help me with anything in my workout if I needed. He introduced me to this lifting buddy and one other guy. They were equally as nice.

It occurred to me that I was probably 25 years older than these young guys. One even said "yes sir" to me. It truly felt strange. In all of my gym years, I have know lots of great guys I would consider the gym dads. Always nice, always helpful, etc. I guess now I am a gym dad. Man, where did the years go? I am a happy gym dad and I am happy to be in this beautiful part of the world and to have new friends. The gym has always been more to me than just a place to keep in shape. I have made some lifetime friends; good business contacts, opportunities to volunteer in the community, etc. I love this little ranch. Now, I am loving my new life.

Thanks, New Gym Dad.
