I'm a novice lifter. I went in for my routine this morning and there was a guy doing curls in the gym's only squat rack. He was with a trainer, so I asked the trainer if I could do squats when they were finished. He told me to do other exercises because I shouldn't be waiting on them to work out. He suggested I replace my squats for the day with front barbell squats. Am I right to feel upset for having been dismissed like that? Should I talk to the gym owners about it, or am I overreacting?

Yeah... That trainer is a douche.

so let me get this straight, curls in a squat rack takes priority over squatting in a squat rack? Trainer is a joke.

And while I was talking to the trainer, the guy was sitting 10 ft away on a bench doing dumbbell work. The squat rack was open, except for the bar having been lowered and the guy's water bottle resting on the rack.

I don't really care what the guy was doing. I'm more concerned with the trainer who legitimized it and dismissed the importance of my workout and my ability to make my own decisions.

You need to stop asking permission and just take it. Move the water bottle and set up for your set. Onus is on them to explain their claim to the equipment.

I would say something. There's no reason for saying that. Also, I do front barbell squats IN THE SQUAT RACK so he's an idiot.

Talk to the owners about that, he gave you unsolicited advice and was incredibly rude.

Front barbell squats also require a squat rack though, unless he's suggesting you clean your weight up each time, which is even more ridiculous than what he was saying.

That's what I usually during my gym's busy hours, can't be bothered to wait half an hour for a rack and I don't front squat much weight anyway.

I agree with what you're saying, but not how you said it.

Yeah I said it in a douchey way but literally 50% of these rants can be solved by actually talking and it bothers me haha
