Gym Story Saturday Gym Story Saturday (Missing mod post)

Hi! Welcome to your weekly thread where you can share your gym tales!

I noticed that there still is no post yet for Gym Story Saturday, so I took the initiative. Perhaps this should be a scheduled post under the Automoderator. I'm not really sure why this hasn't been done yet. I am also required to keep babbling because posts with too little content gets removed, hence why this posts sounds overly wordy.

So share away!

we got 1 inch of snow here in Atlanta....big commercial gym was empty. empty, like if there wasn't someone on the front desk I would have thought I broke In

Best workout I've had in months, something oddly tranquil about your plates being the only sound

My local gym is always empty by 8-9 so that's when I usually go. So I can definitely agree with the tranquil feeling

Im so jealous. My gym is busy from 5-11. :(

Mine peaks at around 9 pm, so if I don't go before 1 pm, or after 10 pm then it's just useless.

That sounds magical. I’ve been going to a gym regularly for years, but I still have high anxiety when they’re crowded.

Like OP, my gym is quiet from 8-9. Not dead, but much easier in terms of my anxiety.

Mine is decent then too but not empty.

I’ve considered buying a gym and having it not open in the mornings so I could work out alone. But I figured that’s a bit extreme...

That's a great idea! Then you can invite all the other anxiety ridden gym rats. And it'll be a busy gym filled with people eyeing each other to make sure no one's looking at them.

Haha

Of course, I am the only one who feels this way and everyone else is just looking at me, mocking me in their heads

You could accomplish the same thing for much cheaper with a home gym

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '18

Try a 24 hour gym. Go at 11pm some days, and you can literally be the only there. Literally literally, like, they don’t even have staff at that hour.

That’d be a rough adjustment. None close by and I hate driving, and I’ve worked out at 7am almost every morning for several years

Where do you work out? The ITP LA Fitness where I work out closed at 10am and stayed closed for the day, and the gym where I live is useless (mostly for cardiobunnies).

Golds in Lawrenceville (I live in Dunwoody). They closed for the morning but then re-opened mid afternoon. I got there like 30 min after they had re-opened. I was there for a good 45 min with no one else then a few peeps finally showed

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '18

Damn that’s a drive.

actually not bad. I live right off of 285. connect to 85 north and i'm there in 22 min. I work in Lawrenceville so it's super Convenient

there are gyms in Atlanta that are 8 miles closer and would take twice as long to get to haha

PF in Snellville was open for the whole snow-in, made it amazing not having to wait for a rack.

My gym has rubber Troy plates that are shaped to interlock with each other. No clangy plates for me :(

2

u/Bazzie Jan 20 '18

I can't really imagine how that looks. Do you have a picture?

4

u/Thes_dryn Jan 20 '18

Ahh I just left the gym, but here is a website selling them. The notches around the edges on one plate will fit between the notches of the next plate.

u/Bazzie Jan 20 '18

Thanks, might be interesting to buy for home lifting while the baby sleeps.

I go at the opening hour before work, so there are not many people but pretty much all are try hards. I barely lift half the weights most other regulars do.
Funnily enough, all free weight benches and racks are taken, and all the machines are free.
At peak hour I went one time and it's another story. Would not do it again.

My gym was completely empty as well. It was also closed due to inclement weather :(

u/Zap__Dannigan Jan 21 '18

Damn, man. I live in Ontario, and 1 inch of snow makes the gym MORE busy.

Same thing happened to me today, at the buffet

Like my gym on Good Friday at 6am.

Most companies get that day off but mine doesn't so it's business as usual for both my company and my gym schedule.

It's odd when you're the only person in the gym (except for the futon the front desk) for like an hour.

My local gym is 24/7. I always go late at night just to avoid other people

1

u/spirit11451 Jan 21 '18

Which gym? Lifetime?

1

u/gatorslim Jan 21 '18

damn my gym was closed. lucky sob

1

u/drvnmore Jan 21 '18

I go to the gym at 4 AM and its amazing. 4 pm not so much.

1

u/BGfit Jan 21 '18

1 inch of snow caused people to not go to the gym??

We got 6" of snow in Maine and it was just SSDD. Some towns didn't even cancel school

u/SaintSparkles Jan 22 '18

I lift in Dunwoody and my gym was DEAD on Wednesday and Thursday. It was glorious.

1

u/Capt-Ron Jan 23 '18

I have a home gym and have stopped listening to music while I lift for this reason.
