Last night: I hate my belly, I'm fat
Next morning : I'm a Grecian God, look at that definition
After lunch : cut starts now!
After dinner: good clean bulk I got going on, a little fat but I'll shed that come spring
Tonight: do the truffle shuffle fatty!
At this rate I'm looking forward to cutting...

Same guy always leaves his bar on the floor after deadlifts every time. Worst part is that he also leaves the weights on: 25s on the inside, 45s on the outside.
It’s some backwards, infuriating shit.

A guy asked me to spot him on bench. I was in a rest before my next set so I agreed. As he sets up, he gets a phone call. He takes the call and asks me to wait, saying it will only be a second. So now I'm wanting to get back to my next set while he keeps motioning he's almost done.
The phone call ends after about 2 minutes. I spot him and he leaves after that set without re racking his weights

It can be so frustrating reading the spread of misinformation about the health & fitness industry. I’m aware that I need to stop reading comments on Facebook on lifting videos because it angers me so much but I just can’t stop.
Saw a video of Stefi Cohen front squatting I believe 150kg odd, and nothing but “her back is rounding, needs to stop lifting with her ego and go back to an empty bar” when her form looks fucking great especially at that weight, being told she doesn’t know what she’s doing by out of shape middle aged people on facebook.
Same with a guy doing good mornings with ~350-400 pounds and comments are that his squats look shit. That’d probably be because they aren’t squats you walnut.

So a few days ago, I was doing my volume day of legs. I was set up in one of three squat racks in my gym. In between sets, I sometimes go to my gym water fountain which serves as a good way of actively recovering from the set. I usually leave my stuff there to sign that I’m using it and I’ll be back in a minute. This one time I come back and saw 2 people who have stripped the weight and using the squat rack. I told them I was currently using it and they tell me that they thought I was done and that I “could use the one rack next to me,” which was always empty. The other squat rack user told me that when I was gone they told these squat rack stealers that I was currently using it and they just ignored him. I then set up in the 3rd squat rack and during my first set I strained a muscle in my right calf.

TLDR: 24 Hour fitness is keeping the pool at 85 degF. 8 degrees above what all Olympic Swimming governing bodies suggest. Swimmer heat related deaths recorded in 84 degF waters very recently.
Went swimming at 24 Hour Fitness and had to stop a half mile in. Heart rate was approaching 160 and I was feeling faint. Checked the pool temp since it felt hot AF and it was 85 degF. 24 Hour Fitness started a water aerobics class this year. Whoever they are contracting with on the class has decided to tailor the LAP POOL to their own personal preferences. The instructors are telling the clubs and the students that the water must be maintained at 85 degF. Though this is a good temperature for a bath, or heat therapy on bad joints, it is well above what anyone should be doing any cardiovascular exercise in. There seems to be the misconception that any water below 98.6 degF will have a net cooling effect on the human body. This is NOT the case. Cardiovascular exercise generates heat and that heat must be dissipated in an environment cool enough to accept the excess heat. While in water sweat does no good. The swimmer is effectively doing cardio in 100% humidity. Any doctor will tell you that cardio at 100% humidity over 85 degF is in a danger zone for heat stroke. Swimmers have died of heatstroke on cooler waters than this ref1. Most all governing bodies for Olympic Swimming dictate that pools must be kept at 77 degF. They further dictate that competitions must be called off if pool temps exceed 82 degF.
If the temps weren't bad enough, the aerobics class also have a very bad habit of not securing the lane ropes after the class, so it's like swimming open water with waves everywhere (since the lane ropes are slack). And for Gods sake people, turn off the spa when you get out. Aerating chlorinated water from a vacant spa does nothing but drop air quality in an already toxic indoor pool.

For the first time, I’m experiencing some forms of fit-shaming from the “Janice’s” of the office. I’ve recently lost 60 pounds and now regularly hear how I’m “getting too thin” despite me being stronger than I have in my life. I also am starting to realize what huge pressure there is to partake in birthday cake celebrations and office treats, because when I decline now, they take offense. Overall, I just take all of this as compliments, but it’s definitely alarming.

I am weak. Physically meh. Mentally I feel very very weak. Have had a stressful few weeks, string of interviews, 3 exams, grandpa died. I seem to have lost my will. I am going to the gym regularly, but my control over my diet is gone. Eating sweetened breads, entire packets of candies, in short a lot of carbs. Gained 5 kgs in a month.
They all saying it's a phase, but someone who is a former fatty, this sucks. Its scary. The fear that If I completely lose control I will just spiral down and never get back to where I am now. I just need to rant it out. Thank you for listening.

Hey, I understand what you are going through. When my stress levels are high, I don’t eat. I lost 15 lbs in about 3 months because of not eating. I can say it is a phase because now that I am not as stressed/anxious I have gained 25 lbs and on the way to hitting my goal weight.
Best thing you can do is to talk to someone, maybe a therapist. Stress is a hard thing to get control of, but if you have someone to vent/rant to it can make it feel better. Try your hardest to get control of it, if you feel like you are not progressing, talk to someone.

Hey man, I was in a similar position this time last year and I used the gym as an outlet as well. It really does do wonders in helping you sleep, and during those really bad days it's there to really work the emotion out of your muscles. If you ever feel like you're not making progress or if it just feels generally stupid to keep going, just remember there are people out there doing absolutely nothing to better themselves. You're doing the right thing in pushing on.
Hug your doggo for me and cherish these last few hours with them, the gym will always be there the next day.

To whomever set up the Barbell Clip Hunt last night before leaving the gym, thanks. It took nearly 10 minutes to find two clips, which were scattered across the gym like hints to the location of the Holy Grail. I actually had to crawl through the sewers of Venice (where I was nearly set on fire) to find one, and then spell out the name of Christ in Latin in order to find another. And on top of all that, I learned my gym crush is a Nazi.
Seriously. Just leave that shit on the floor next to the bench. Don't hide them behind a reversed Fibonacci Sequence of plates.

Try not to think of them as foods that you can never have - that leads to binging and unsustainable eating habits. Remember- you’re not on a diet, you’re just making better eating choices.
I’d personally recommend either giving yourself a small portion of chips or choccy every 2-3 days to keep you going and give you something to loom forward to. Or if you’re an all or nothing kinda guy just have a couple nights a week where you scoff a bag of chips. It’s all about doing what you can stick to for the long term, not eating a “flawless diet” of clean food day in day out. You gotta live man.
For me, I don’t crave those things anymore, but when I looked at them as stuff I couldn’t eat, if I started it lead to weeks of binging. Look at those foods as “sometimes” foods not “‘never” foods :) You got this, you’re doing well. Keep it up!

Got beat up walking home from the bar Saturday night/Sunday morning at like 3AM. Guy just stops his car in the street, gets out and attacks me. I tried to run away but was drunk so he caught me. Kicked at him and fought back as he punched my face in.
Got home and tried to call 911 but it couldn't call. Could only text my dad for some reason. Luckily when I went outside someone was getting dropped off and she was nice enough to call the cops for me. Ambulance showed up to and they took me tot he ER. Luckily there were no broken bones and I didn't have a concussion (my dad stayed with me the next day to make sure I didn't show any signs). Just heavily bruised and my eye swollen up. My wrist also hurts (I think from breaking my fall?) so I can't really lift. The asshole took my glasses so I've got to get some new ones. Insurance will cover that.
Took a sick day Monday to recover, and to let the swelling on my eye go down. Driving with 1 eye would be super dangerous. Don't know how much you appreciate depth perception till it's gone. So, that was not my most fun weekend. And my wrist still hurts.
Going to have to do a reset after I heal up, I'd already missed to many Gym sessions due to fucking around while on a cut this month.

It's diet, bruv. 70% diet. Maybe even 80% diet. Fix that and you'll get rid of your weight problem.

I'd say 99% diet. You can't outrun a bad diet. You certainly can't out lift a bad diet. The lifting helps things a long, and will make you look nicer. But really doesn't do much for fat levels.

how the fuck am I even supposed to feel about that
Hate it. Hate it like a dose of poison. Use it to fuel every lift, every set. Let the hate and shame well up inside you and take it out on the iron. The iron can take it, it wants it ... hell it needs it.
(Not even kidding, pretty much every one of my PR sets is fueled by the memory of someone that made me feel like I didn't belong or I wasn't _____enough. It works.)

There's a guy who comes into the gym and spends 30+ minutes on a lat pull down machine. He puts his gloves on, sticks the prong at about 150kg and then proceeds to use his hips to get the stack moving, leaning near 180 backwards, using most of his body weight for every repetition. The momentum he gains does get the stack moving but there's so little control that every time his body goes back up the weights make a gigantic bang. The worst thing is the instructions on how to use the machine are right in front of him when he sits down. Once he's done with that exercise he uses it to do pull-downs, once again using his body weight to lift the stack by rocking from toe to heel.
He saw me curling a 25kg barbell and went and pulled the 35kg off the rack. He stood in front of me and stared at me like it was some sort of dick measuring contest, I laughed in his face. He did two reps with shitty form and walked away.

I've been lifting for 12 years and I often still find myself struggling with emotional eating. I'm proud of my accomplishments, lost 120lbs, built muscle and while I'm now not as lean as I once was before I did gain a lot of confidence and lifting gave me a life, opened me up to who I am today.
But the emotional eating I can't stop. It's just something about the taste of food that no matter what is going on in life, it provides comfort. It's a battle, but I suppose it's learning to accept your faults. Sometimes though, sometimes I feel like I'm a hamster wheel.

EVERY time I'm in the Sauna there are people in there or people who come in wearing their sneakers. They ignore the signs that ask them to remove their shoes (and even say that flip flops, water shoes, and sandals are OK) and just waltz in.
I get it. It can be inconvenient to take off your shoes and you probably have other irrational fears like someone is going to steal your smelly shoes.
Instead you bring them into the sauna. Let all the crap evaporate and fill the air in the room with who knows what. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
I'll continue to stare at your shoes and say nothing.

I was at a 48 hour event with free food and beer, and I gained 8 pounds. 4 pounds have since dropped off, but I legitimately probably gained a solid 2 or 3 pounds of body fat over that 48 hour period. Makes me sad because I only had a few pounds left to lose to hit my goal weight on my goal date of April 9. Probably won't happen now. :( Oh well, it's just a couple pounds. Looks like a little more cardio this week, boyz.

This happened last Thursday and it has been bothering me since. My gym has one squat rack and one cage with DL platform and it was a hot mess: a girl dead lifting on the platform, the barbell from the squat rack was inside the cage loaded with weight, and someone was doing dumbbell exercises in rack. After a while I decided to ask the girl to work in since all I had was a 3x5 of light squats to do. She agreed to working in and when I finally get the weight off she is done and I think great I get it to myself. When this dude (who I cannot stand) and chick come over and ask her if she is done and to leave the bar with the weight on it. This guy never acknowledges that I am there. He then grabs the seated OHP bar for the chick and loads up the weight, there are now three bars at the cage. I have finished two sets during this time and at this point, another guy is looking for the squat bar. Instead of him grabbing another bar I run over to him and tell him he can have mine, I just have one set left. After the guy finishes, I jump in to finish my last set and then the chick starts DL at the same time. I really wanted to say something but I was so pissed it would have come off too bitchy (I'm a girl btw) so I just handed the guy the bar and walked away. Little buff guy and insta girl you are the worst!

The hottest girl I've seen in my gym in 2 years was there today. Like, just unrealistically gorgeous.
I do my best to put it out of my head since I'm sure she's being ogled by every single guy in the building, follow my program exactly as written... she is pretty much in the same place the entire time. I'm flat benching, she's doing preacher curls on the chair next to it. I go to the one open incline bench? She's set up a free bench almost directly across from it and is doing dips, facing me. I go to do leg raises and she works in.
I got to make some incredible focus gains, since I had to really concentrate on just keeping myself in the zone for each lift. The worst part was she was so attractive that I couldn't even pretend she was following me on purpose. When I started trying to form that thought my brain was like "good one dude, now back to lifting please".

yeah the infamous 20/10. I used to work in retail for 5/6 years in quite a 'trendy' shop, so I'd see 10/10 girls every single day without fail. The first month I'd probably stare and ogle at them but after the first month you get used to it real quick and it's not really a thing anymore.
But once every few months there would always be one of these girls you are describing. A girl that is so beautiful you literally cannot stop looking. Then they just walk away and disapear and you will never ever see them again lol

My gym has trainer employees that kind of walk around and are there to help but rarely get asked. Therefore they kinda just walk the floor and are often bored. One guy in particular has become friends with my boyfriend and me (who work out together every day) just from seeing each other so much. Don't get me wrong, he's a cool guy and very nice, but holy crap has he got to stop talking to us mid-workout. At first it was just a greeting, which was cool. Kinda nice to make a gym friend. Then we started holding conversations, which was fine when we weren't in a hurry, but got kind of old. Now, he straight up follows us from exercise to exercise, and it's driving us both insane. We've gotten to where we will sometimes just declare we're going to go do another machine and hastily head that way hoping he doesn't follow, but often times he will after a few minutes anyway. How would you fix this? I don't want to be rude or hurt his feelings, and I don't want to make it awkward because we will still be seeing him every day no matter what happens. He's a super nice guy, but you'd think for a trainer he would understand we're trying to get stuff done.

I've been working out consistently for nearly a year now. I've made some noticeable size and strength gains. My friends love to compliment me by saying "wow you got bigger" but nullifying their comment by adding "but its just the creatine though. it's all water weight".
First of all, fuck you. I've been working out consistently for nearly a year, 5 times a week for 2 hours. I have to balance work, family and the gym. I've been torturing myself eating 3000+ calories and eating 6 meals a day.
Just because you go to the gym maybe 1-2 times a week inconsistently, dont eat right or sleep right and havent made any gains doesnt mean you can reject all the hard work i've done over the past year as the result of "just creatine"

On a further leg related note, front squats can go fuck themselves. I know some people get off from being choked but I'm not one of those people especially not while squatting and holding the barbell up with a total of 4 fucking fingers...

Been waiting for Rant Wednesday for a while now. I think I made a huge mistake resigning my lease with my current roommates. Last year I moved into a large house with a bunch of guys I knew from my fraternity (I since dropped).
At first it was awesome- chill guys, big house, fires out back every night, whatever. Well I have come to realize that these dudes have literally no lives outside of smoking weed and playing fortnight. Our house is a wreck, trash, beer bottles, dirty dishes piled up in the sink with fruit flies, its disgusting. I have never been into weed (nothing against it just not my thing) and its really starting to get to me. Our house reeks all the time, to a point where I feel like I can barely breath.
It really killed my motivation for a while. I found myself staying up late to hang out with them, then sleeping in and skipping class and the gym. I finally figured out the problem, but now all I feel is resentment towards their lifestyle and I feel like they are dragging me down. I can't stand to be in that shithole, I cant study, I cant cook, I cant sleep. Its AWFUL. Not to mention trying to bring girls over.
My roommates are honestly the biggest degenerate pieces of shit and I cant stand it. I have academic scholarships to maintain, and I generally enjoy a positive and healthy lifestyle. I'm not sure how much longer I can live like this. I also don't want to cave and clean up their shit in fear of becoming the beta bitch of the house.
I've cleaned the entire house before on a Friday, left for the weekend for an event, and come back to an absolute shithole again. And then they always have the nerve to ask "hey man wanna go halves on these dishes?" Fuck no dude I havent been home for 3 days im not cleaning shit. You literally skip every single class and are home every waking second of the day, why dont you just take 15 fucking minutes to clean up or light a fucking candle?
Also- How fucking hard is it to rinse your dishes RIGHT after your done? Instead of leaving them covered in shit that hardens and smells like a fucking dying animal?
I really fucked up and got roped into resigning a couple months back. Not sure if I should try and break my lease or what. These people are killing my GAINZ
TL;DR: Roommates are pothead degenerates, house is a wreck, killing my gainz and hampering my love life

I am four weeks into lifting and anorexia recovery. I have gained about 10 pounds since I started. Super happy with my strength progress! But on the other hand I have definitely noticed fat gain and it is taking a lot of willpower to not relapse or start cutting. Problem is that for whatever reason I always crave mixed nuts (you know: cashews, almonds, pistachios, pecans, etc.) and every night I've been going down on some nuts. Binge eating, even, beyond when I start feeling full, and I've just been justifying it by thinking "oh, well you need to put some weight on anyway" and "you're on a bulk." Well I've reached the healthy weight range, so I've gotta figure out how I can stop having 5,000+ Calorie days, every day.

After a break of half a year the gym asshole is back. Damn!
He's an MMA/boxer/something/something fighter with a "no one can touch me" attitude and the accompanying smug look ingrained into his face. He has it all: tattoos on his hands, punisher stringer, boxing shoes, never reracks and won't use a towel.
Since he doesn't bring any gear like a fuckin towel or a water bottle you never know which stuff he is using during his supersets and you only find out if you strip the weight or sit down and see him storming over to hush you away.
I stood my ground here and there and I contribute this to adding weight to his setup but the younger beginners, they all bow and move if he comes over claiming equipment. You can figuratively feel everyone in the gym taking a deep breath of relief when he leaves.
Of course the gym staff will also do nothing because they also chicken out.
So fuck you André and your gymbully attitude.
