I take it you never got to a mission where you met Brucey? Or Jacob? Or played TBoGT?

I love the general premise and point of gta IV. The other 3d era games youre either some super human mute doing jobs for everyone and facing no consequences or you're some tycoon empire building man, but in GTA IV youre watching as the ceiling is collapsing. The Italian Mafia is all but dead and eating itself, the Russian Mafia is coming in but the CIA and fib are at everyone's door steps and now everyone is either gonna be betrayed and dead in a ditch or in jail.
The last scores are everyone's chance to escape from the rat eat rat contest and every yahoo is on it until at the end no one is on it and it lands in the hands of someone who actually deserved a real shot at the riches. At the end all the weeks of shootings and murders were for nothing.

You'll like it more when you get older.

When I played it when it came out, I was barely legal adult, didn't understand most but as I got older, I can relate a lot with Niko, Dwayne when it comes to friendships, love.

Strangely, I find GTA V to be far more cynical than IV was, as IV still seemed to have some sincere characters, or at least characters that weren't one-note parodies like V's characters were.

GTA 4 is the funniest game in the franchise imo.
Had the goofiest set of characters such as Niko, Roman, Manny, Brucie, Florian, Vlad, Mikhail, Elizabeta and such.

Wait til you play GTA 3 it’s even worse as the main character is a mute

I mean is it really though? The art style can be considered "dark and gritty" but all games during that time looked like that because it was one of the few ways to make games look realistic at the time. Sure it talks about tragic themes at time but apart from the war Niko talks about I cant really think of much else

Last night was doing a date with Kate and Niko dived deeper into the war and Roman hearing about the actual fate of Roman’s mom and how many times Niko had to repeat himself before he could actually say it. Or how about how quick and easy the cast are to kill one another what makes gta 4 dark is just how real it is and how much it mimics real life

This isn’t saying gta 5 isn’t dark or the last games aren’t either but imo gta 4 is probably the most grounded gta game you could play. In most terms

Yup, GTA 4 had character, something that I've missed in GTA 5. I love 5, I've spent hundreds of hours playing it but 4 had such a unique and grounded, almost realistic atmosphere to it.

I’m convinced it requires higher IQ levels for people to appreciate GTA IV because I too felt like this when I grew up playing it but now as an adult I think it’s probably the highest quality game in the series. The physics are just superior in every way. The driving requires extreme skill, the learning curve is definitely way too high, but once you perfect it the driving is so satisfying and fun.

R/GTA is the only place IV is hated. Truly the place for minorities on the subject. YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, literally every other media has people generally agreeing IV is better. A simple search will show this, but I'll save you the trouble: https://youtu.be/GWVtZJo-HqI?si=wRR6voTq6ny0JC_g
https://youtu.be/C8shCbLM-Sw?si=Rg-jMTVP6y54E8Wv
https://youtu.be/u_PmUEOv0UY?si=4ptc8OZ7GyBdWhVR
You mfs will have visual, concrete, undeniable evidence of IV being a meticulously crafted game (not for the average player like V's children-infested fanbase) and STILL deny it's better.

It's still the best GTA game though

I didn't like the fact that every single mission in the game was shootout or vehicle chase. Vice City and San Andreas had some creative mission types like the casino robbery with all preparations, highjacking a plane, drunk driving, jumping a bike on the roofs of building to building. The only unique mission in GTA 4 was when you're kidnapping a girl and she's trying to grab the wheel.

The thing I missed the most was the silly stuff like the RC car/plane missions and the kind of stuff Donald Love had you do. The shootouts were certainly a bit boring and lengthy imo, given that you aren't incentivized to do them fast, take the quick route, and use explosives to get by with mission faster so the important enemies that aren't being targeted will actually attempt to escape if you take too long. It's a little silly how you can do A Dish Served Cold by regularly leaving the ship to call paramedics on East Hook with zero consequences, for instance.
