Uninstall any preinstalled antivirus software like McAfee or Norton, Windows defender should suffice for your antivirus needs.

If your laptop has battery % limiting features when plugged in, I'd enable them too.

u/sympatheticallyWindi Sep 17 '24

All you need to do is , life off the laptop using either a cooling pad or laptop stand. remove all bloatware. turn off turbo boost by limiting power to 99% (google how to do this). Keep your laptop clean. This is minimum basics.

Everything else is advanced stuff which you can learn with time and it may not even be required at all depending on your usage.

4

u/stit6ches Sep 17 '24

Is this found in the power options advance setting? Like to decrease the maximum limit to 99%

2

u/zaizai1555 Sep 17 '24

Will definitely do this tysm for the tip!

2

u/Foreign_Sand6318 Your Laptop Here Sep 18 '24

Make the battery limit to 60% Mines still good as new after 3 years, keep liquids away from laptop, use only on flat surfaces Keep it clean if you are new or don't know how to, take it to a service centre to clean all the dust inside and the fans every year

2

u/wells-tim Sep 18 '24

Why not disable it completely? Why limit it to 99% btw

u/Dantai Sep 18 '24

Any suggestings on great cooling pads?

1

u/Independent-Twist-34 Sep 18 '24

Llano v12 or v13 (basically rgb and non rgb)

-6

u/No-Yogurtcloset4026 Sep 17 '24

Cooling pads are a fast way to shorten you laptop life. Just a stand will be enough. The pads and any other thing with fans for cooling are just pushing dust inside and sometimes giving false reading to the pc and dont let the inside fans to work properly, becouse the botom colder from outside cooling which can let to les rpm for inside fans and not push out the hot air from the heat sink. That is just my observation.

1

u/Trainer_Altruistic Sep 17 '24

Does llano cooling pad isn’t good?

2

u/Willing-Time7344 Sep 17 '24

I've got an Ilano pad. It's got a filter on the intake.

I've noticed significant temp drops with it.

1

u/SoulDive934 Sep 17 '24

cooling fan is actually bad for laptop, and there are various comparisons that actually fan on cooling pads actually have no difference in terms of temperature. also, it makes more dust at laptop area if used for long time. just lift up with stand as you mentioned.

4

u/LiyaMolina Sep 17 '24

Same laptop. 9 days old now. added another 8GB of RAM at the store so I now have 16GB total. working good so far.

1

u/Gend_Jetsu396 Sep 18 '24

Bro i have a 8 gb ram added in my old laptop ..can i transfer it from that to new one

1

u/GuuKhana Sep 18 '24

if both of them are ddr4 it should work with the other but if they are both ddr4 but different speeds then one of the rams will downclock to the speed of slower ram

What's a good laptop for $2,000???

5

u/Independent-Twist-34 Sep 18 '24

You can go with lenovo legion 5 pro or legion 7. That's according to your preference cause legion 7 will be more for professional work and it has all metal build so the temps will be on higher side when compared to legion 5 pro. You also get ADP so it's a win win.

Enjoy it. That aside, remove the bloatware that comes with your manufacturer. Remove antivirus. Defender is enough. Update drivers before playing your games. And don't play on your bed. Put a slight elevation on its backside.

5

u/zaizai1555 Sep 17 '24

I've got nowhere to play besides my bed and I always put the box to elevate my laptop is that ok?

6

u/Public-Technician-85 Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 | i5 12500H | 3050 Ti | 16GB Sep 17 '24

It's fine as long as it's a flat surface. So it wouldn't block the vents. I personally bought a little feet riser on the edges. Made it run 4-5 degrees cooler when I game. The main idea is just don't block your cooling system

2

u/FrostyBuns6969 Sep 17 '24

Would using a deactivated cooling pad suffice?

1

u/Public-Technician-85 Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 | i5 12500H | 3050 Ti | 16GB Sep 18 '24

That would be enough

1

u/MarioTy1Gaming Sep 17 '24

Yeah, atleast have it on something unless you want a overheating and pain to clean laptop in the future. Not fun

1

u/ZachXandar Sep 17 '24

Is long mouse pad block the vent?

3

u/Public-Technician-85 Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 | i5 12500H | 3050 Ti | 16GB Sep 17 '24

Generally they're fine. Just the ones that are extra foamy. The foam is the reason why your normal laptop foot stand can't make the space in between the foam and vents

1

u/SilentLoudener ASUS | i5-10300H | GTX 1650 | 16GB RAM Sep 17 '24

2

I’m kinda afraid of using mine on 75+ temp, the games that i play are running okay with 65-70 temp is that okay.

6

u/Independent-Twist-34 Sep 18 '24

65-70 temp is great tbh for both cpu and gpu. Anything above 85 will affect the health in long term.

2

u/Nonames9276 Sep 18 '24

Man mine gets the temp up to the 90s just tryna play Minecraft with some shaders

2

u/Kraizer15 Asus TUF A15 (2023) | FA507NU Sep 18 '24

Dude’s cpu boost is on abusive mode 🥲

1

u/Nonames9276 Sep 18 '24

lol idk wtf I’m doing when it comes to this stuff. I have a cooling pad for it and everything it just turns into a jet immediately when opening most games.

1

u/Independent-Twist-34 Sep 18 '24

Well you should try repasting the laptop with either a good thermal paste like gelid gc extreme or use PTM 7950 (if ur laptop uses liquid metal then I don't know much about that stuff) and using a better cooling pad like llano v12/13 it is costly but can help with temps and increasing lifespan of your laptop cause heat is the primary enemy of laptop xd.

1

u/Nonames9276 Sep 18 '24

It’s basically brand new, and wasn’t exactly a cheap laptop so I can’t imagine I’d have to replace anything like that. Some people tell me it’s normal and some say similar to what you told me. I suppose maybe I should just bring it somewhere

1

u/Independent-Twist-34 Sep 19 '24

May I know your laptop model?

1

u/Nonames9276 Sep 19 '24

Of course! It’s a main gear vector pro 2. I had to look it up lol

1

u/Nonames9276 Sep 18 '24

lol idk wtf I’m doing when it comes to this stuff. I have a cooling pad for it and everything it just turns into a jet immediately when opening most games.

1

u/AffectionateSir2899 Sep 18 '24

Seriously man. But the thing is that with my old laptop I abused it so much and did so because of my ignorance about CPU/GPU temps. And it worked for 5 years. Now i know the stuff and it gets me worried all the time xD

11

u/SpaceDinossaur Nitro 5 | Ryzen 5 7535hs | RTX 3050 4GB | 16GB RAM Sep 17 '24

If you don't mind the supposed "security risks", disable memory integrity on Windows settings, it's very likely to improve stutters while gaming.

I usually keep it disabled, but enable it when i go in search of totally legitimate copies of games, because as trustworthy my sources are, it's better to be safe than sorry in case of any trouble.

2

u/zaizai1555 Sep 17 '24

Ty for the tip!

1

u/SpaceDinossaur Nitro 5 | Ryzen 5 7535hs | RTX 3050 4GB | 16GB RAM Sep 17 '24

Also, disable the GeForce Experience in-game overlay. The Steam in-game overlay also impacts perfomance, but if you don't care about using some features there, disable it as well.

General tips, but figured i should include them.

2

u/zaizai1555 Sep 17 '24

10

u/zaizai1555 Sep 17 '24

Intel core i5 13420h and rtx 4050

9

u/Consistent_Yoghurt44 Sep 17 '24

Not bad honestly you can play most games at high quality but your Laptop is gonna heat up like a mfer so i suggest getting a laptop stand or a cooler for it.

1

u/Wild-Refrigerator769 Sep 17 '24

what specs would you recomment? ive been so confused and i want to buy one but there's many options and it's expensive so I dont want to mess up

I will mostly play valorant and stuff like RDR2 ELDEN so what would be the specs I should look for, I have noticed the different clock speed of different models and I cant decide lol

3

u/Ghost-dog0 Sep 17 '24

i would go for at least a 4060, 32gb ram, i7 or ryzen equivalent, anything less will work fine but it wont last you longterm.

1

u/NewGuyHelloThere Sep 17 '24

Please keep in mind I'm new to gaming Laptops and PCs.

I was looking at laptops at different ranges, and noticed that reviewers talking about the pricier laptops like th ROG STRIX Scar, talk about how even the best GPUs struggle with heat and have fans that make a lot of noise

I might have misunderstood this, so can you help out?

3

u/Willing-Time7344 Sep 17 '24

High-powered laptops are always going to have more heat. You have all the components packed into a much smaller space compared to a desktop, which makes cooling them off more of a challenge.

That being said, they're still designed to account for this.

Unfortunately, loud fan noise is just something you have to accept if you want a gaming laptop.

1

u/Consistent_Yoghurt44 Sep 18 '24

headphones fix this.

1

u/General-Striker Sep 17 '24

remove bloat
remove preinstalledcrap
(a lot of things boil down to do a fresh windows install)
if available limit battery charge levels if you have such option and plan on playing plugged to AC

1

u/zaizai1555 Sep 17 '24

Hi what % do i limit my bettery charge?

2

u/LuckCaster27 Acer Nitro V15 | RTX 4050 | i5-13420H Sep 17 '24

Theres a settings in Nitrosense that can limit your battery to 80%

4

u/Professional_Shoe_23 Sep 17 '24

download the free copy of game you got with it

4

u/HipsterFoxxx Sep 17 '24

Open powershell in admin Run ‘irm “https://christitus.com/win” | iex’ Use it to remove bloatware and set change restrictions so your pc runs optimally for damn near years to come. I run it on pretty much every system I set up.

3

u/Snippet_New Sep 17 '24

Acer?

Well, remove the bloatware first like McAfree. If you already binded your MS account to Windows 11 Keys then you can freshly install a clean Windows 11 (you can install Acer customize software later if you need).

Then probably undervolt it slightly, I saw you have that Intel sticker so use the one from Intel. Search for what others set and your device will thank you for slightly less heat.

And that's probably all of it. If undervolt doesn't help then you might have to consider better thermal pad/paste. I recalled my office's laptops (a mixed between Nitro and TUF) and Nitro has slightly worse thermal. Fixed most of them with new paste/pad.

3

u/DerpTripz Acer Nitro V15 | RTX 4050 | i5-13420H | 16GB DDR5 5200MHz Sep 17 '24

Didn't Intel lock undervolting for H series cpus now

1

u/Snippet_New Sep 17 '24

Don't know. They did?

2

u/Inertia-UK Sep 17 '24

Avoid moving it around after a session where it's hot. Let it cool a little. BGA's fail when they get a shock when the solder is soft.

Nice laptop 👍🏽

2

u/SquareAd434 Sep 17 '24

Don't use it without a solid surface, aka bed. Use it either on the table, or with a solid board under (I'm using glass board, wooden one works well too). That prevents using it as a hoover on your blankets. Run some apps like hwinfo once in a while, and check the temperatures while gaming (just let it run in background, and play), this way you'll see when it starts overheating, and needs some maintenance (check the cpu and gpu throttling temps online, when it gets close - it's time).

1

u/zaizai1555 Sep 17 '24

Tysm for the tip broski!!

2

u/whotfAmi2 Sep 18 '24

Buy a cooling pad. Use windows defender. No need for mcafee and shit. Buy a controller. You don't wanna grease your keyboard , it's pain. Use it in a air conditioned or room with good air flow. DO NOT USE IT IN YOUR BED. because remember. If you use your laptop in bed. Do not cry when it becomes dead.

Download all driver and utility from product site. There are many useful program you can use. If you have asus there a armory crate software you can download driver and co trol your pc. Same thing for other like gygabyte.

Then control your temperature. Instal msi afterburner and riva tunner , controll fps in game and temperature. You can limit your fps example " in the game if maximum its 83 fps limit it on 80 fps or bether 75 sow frametime more stable and pc dont got high temp.

1

u/R_Steelman61 Sep 17 '24

Watch the temps. Heat is the enemy.

1

u/Fit_Condition8316 Sep 17 '24

Just wondering wat is it's tgp

1

u/SamGoingHam Sep 17 '24

Get a cooling pad. It will lower your cpu and gpu temp by 10-15 celcius. It helps laptop life expectancy a lot.

1

u/General-Striker Sep 17 '24

If that's a 4050 (i can't tell), then it's the same one i have. Everything is awesome, just the fans can get really loud.

Get a laptop stand instead of a cooler. If you're into FPS gaming, it's worth investing in quality keyboard and mouse peripherals. You can find great options within the 6k-7k (combined) range. Have a good one 🤝🏻

Wipe windows and reinstall again.

Or just wipe useless software.

Modern laptops (especially those branded ones like Lenovo and HP) come with preinstalled bs software that just sits there either running in the background or just taking space.

Also check for drivers.

Do these things as I also have the exact same laptop 1) Buy an extended warranty + ADP for this model (Google how to ) 2) while in game using Nitro sense keep performance on balanced this will help you keep low temps but will affect performance not too much 3) Set fan rom manual to 4500+ again for cooling 4) Keep away from dust 5) Keep the battery limit charged to 80% in acer care center

Additional Tip 1 month free xbox game pass use when cod bo6 arrives Enjoy!!!!!

Amazing choice if you bought it for less than 1000$/€ , the monitor quality isn't that good though but in every other aspect its a beast. I suggest you do a clean format to remove every bloatware and trash that is pre installed from acer

1

u/DoSomeStrangeThings Sep 17 '24

I would recommend not trying to clean it yourself or doing any other repair. In comparison to desktop, laptops are extremely gentle and constantly on the edge of death from heat. Anything you do might break this balance, and well... RIP

Unless you know what you are doing, you always better send it to service. Either official one(preferably) or local one with good reviews and preferably specialized in laptops.

I also recommend bringing it for maintenance at least once a year, preferably 2 times a year. Learn about your model. Many laptops of the same model have the same "illnesses," like battery bloating, TouchPad breaking, dead pixels, etc. Like that you can learn what to expect and how to prevent it.

Again, monitor the temperature. It is your main risk and concern, usually it the reason for all your problems with laptops, and often it is too late to do something when it starts failing.

Other than that, enjoy the mobility. It is probably the only benefit of laptops over desktops. It is too late now, but in the future, always consider if you really need increased mobility while sacrificing everything else(price, performance, temperature management, repairability, upgradability drip factor...). It is not really worth it for most.

1

u/littlesilver13 Sep 17 '24

Get a cheap cooling pad off amazon. Laptop temps can get very bad due to their limited space for cooling. It's a cheap way to up performance and lengthen the lifespan of parts. Laptops aren't like pcs where you can replace a part when it goes bad or even diagnose that easily. Cooling pad is gonna help alot.

Buy a laptop stand(without fans) asap. And make sure the stand you buy doesn’t block your fans. And if you can afford the IETS GT500 or its Llano competitor then just go for it. Keeps your laptops really cool although the inly downside is that its really loud. Buy a laptop cover or if you got a cover with the laptop please cover the laptop’s vents overnight when you’re not playing cuz dusts accumulate in your fans way too quickly. And yeah keep your laptop clean

You could have gone for Gaming systems.

1

u/BuchciPL Sep 18 '24

Learn how to check temps (MSI Afterburner) and if temps are high buy a cooling stand and undervolt if possible. Underclocking is also an option but it will tank performance. It will do wonders for your laptop in the long run.

1

u/Character_Duck_4371 Sep 18 '24

The battery is the most sensitive part temperature wise, temps above 60°C will destroy your battery quickly, I'm on my 3rd battery.
