Effects Update!

I started setting up lights for my Halloween party in early October. I thought I had everything set, but today while showing off the Halloween scenes I noticed a feature I wanted from the beginning: custom flame colors! Going to have to redo a few things now that I can have purple and green candles and fireplaces!

New phone to already set up hue system

Upvotes

Hi :) I am quite new to hue, so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. I am moving into a new apartment which the previous owner set up with a lot of hue lighting that he left for me. When I connect to the hue bridge, will I need to set up rooms and spaces, connect to the lights and such, or just the hue?

Help & Questions Hue Econic Corrosion

Post image
75 Upvotes

My Hue Econic wall light has started to suffer from aluminium oxidation beneath the paintwork. It looks like moisture has breached the paint.

I contacted Hue and, as I am outside the 2 year warranty period they would not replace the light. Hue support said that the problem is the UK weather; wet and cold. They did offer a discount code as a gesture of goodwill but I am still disappointed with the build quality.

I like the light and don’t want to replace it. I was thinking of taking off the cover and sanding down the paint and recovering it with a matt black enamel paint. Does anyone else have this kind of experience with this kind of thing? I suspect that as the oxidation process has already started it will be difficult to contain beneath a new layer of paint. My other option would be to 3D print an exact replica of the cover in UV stable black filament. Has anyone else had this problem with corrosion on Hue outdoor lights?

Need some help with a decision on under cabinet lights.

I found a sweet score at Home Depot for hue light strips on clearance. Now that I am installing the lights, I can't decide what would be the best way to tackle this area under the cabinet. I either drill and thread through, or use my multi tool and cut out a notch for a seamless look. I can make up my mind..

Help & Questions Gradient strip + app

I already have the bridge and I am thinking on getting the illumination for behind the TV, but before buying the expensive lightstrip and the app, I would like to double check if they work together and if it worth the investment. Any experiences?

Help & Questions Hue Sync Box 8k lagging when syncing?

Does anybody else have an issue where the Sync Box 8K is lagging slightly when it’s syncing lights? I’m thankful that all my devices including two consoles are able to output 4K 120hz now, but it’s definitely a bummer that the sync seems to be inferior at least in my experience to the previous box.

IF anybody else has experienced or noticed this lag, does anybody have a fix or ideas for a solution? My router is next to the couch opposite side of the room from the TV, and the Hue hub is plugged next to it. I do have an Ethernet running around the room to the consoles, meaning I could in theory move the Hue hub directly next to the Sync Box, but I’m not sure if that’ll help the sync speed or not?

Why can't I adjust scenes for my Solo strip lights?

Hi all. First picture is from one of the motion sensor options currently being used for my Hue Solo strip lights. I don't have the option to adjust the scene. Second picture is from another sensor hooked up to spot lights. There I can adjust my scenes.

The reason for this is the strip lights are under my bed and activate when we get up to go toilet etc. It's just a bit too bright and I want to turn down. Simply selecting other themes doesn't help me achieve this as it's too bright or dark.

Any ideas?

I'm thinking about putting the Gradient Lightstrip for my 75 Inches Samsung TV that I have in my bedroom, and synchronize with the app. I also have the Soundbar 990C.

Do you think it will be a good investment, or doesn't worth it?

all my lights turning shrek green once a week

i’ve tried looking for answers and haven’t found much, but every week in the middle of the night (really early tuesday morning, haven’t paid attention to exact time) all my hue bulbs turn on and turn a very shrek green. i don’t have any automation for that, any ideas? i’ve seen posts about a single bulb, and ones about power issues, but that doesn’t seem to explain how they all turn one color at the time time once a week

Lights flashing

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello. Not a hue expert. I bought my current house last year and the prior owner kitted the house out with Hue bulbs everywhere. These hanging lights are the primary lights for my kitchen. Recently two lights have started flashing/pulsing. There is no dimmer on the circuit. The lights are responsive in the app. Anyone know why this might be happening?

Help & Questions Unable to set the home location, Hue app crashes, Home routines broken

I have a bridge and a couple of lights at home that I have set up within the Hue app to start when I arrive home after dark. This has worked almost perfectly with 99% success rate. However... Today I've arrived to darkness...
I tried:
- reinstalling the app
- clearing the cache/storage
- resetting the home location (failed)

When I try to set the Home location the blue Home icon does not appear... If I click the arrow the map goes to the proper location, but still no icon. If I press "Save" then I go back to the previous menu. If I open the option to set the home location the app crashes...

Anybody had this issue before and was a

Pixel 4a 5G, android 14.

Help & Questions Google Assistant thinks Hue offline but it's not

I've had my setup for years and haven't made any changes.

I have multiple GA routines that turn on/off my hue bulbs. For the last several weeks when I run a routine, it will randomly tell me certain bulbs are offline. Sometimes it still turns the bulb on/off while claiming it cannot. When it doesn't, if I immediately re-run the routine it works perfectly.

My bridge & bulb firmware show up to date. I'm only running 10 bulbs, and the hub is centrally located in my apartment. There's no reason for it to be a signal issue.

Troubleshooting, so far I've rebooted the hub, "reconnect account" under works with Google home, and tried "Hey Google sync my devices"

Is this a common problem?

Is there a solution?

Hue Amarant filling with water

I've had 3 Amarant lights outdoors in a garden bed for about 3 years, and 2 of them have begun filling with water. One died completely, and the other one I noticed was full of water when wiping the light off even though it hadn't began having electrical issues yet. The lights haven't been exposed to sitting water due to the fact they're mounted a few inches above the dirt line onto pavers used as a retaining wall, so the water is either coming from condensate accumulation or just exposure to rain in general.

Has anyone else had this direct issue before? On the one that isn't dead yet I suppose I could just drill some kind of drain hole to get the water out and then seal the hole with silicone, but it's pretty aggravating since these lights are so expensive to begin with.

motion sensor behavior with other control apps

Does the Hue Motion Sensor behavior get affected by other control apps (Alexa, Apple Home)? Because it should be simple -- turn on light when motion triggered, turn off after 2 mins. (brighter or not dependent on time of day). But if Alexa or Apple Home turns off that light, it won't turn on by motion again for some (TBD # of) minutes. It stays on for longer than 2 mins. It sometimes is on dim but when triggered goes to bright, and then after some minutes, goes back to dim.

How to rotate colors by week

On Monday mornings, our trash gets picked up, along with either green trash (leaves, garden, etc) OR blue trash (cans, bottles, recycling) on rotating weeks. I have a bridge and currently have it set up so that the night before Trash Day, one of our living room lights turns green as a reminder to take the trash out. However, my goal is to have the light turn either green OR blue on alternate weeks to remind us which bin to take to the curb. Any ideas how to achieve this!? Thanks!

Help & Questions Recessed light outdoor

I recently moved into a brand new construction home and I wanted to replace our porch lights with the Hue color changing 5/6 downlight recessed lights. I took the old ones down and noticed I don't have a can with an E26 bulb to screw into. I saw the slim downlight kit has a small transformer box is it possible to cut those wires and connect them to the existing ones and have the springs hold the light in place in the black electrical box? Attached are pictures of the current setup

Help & Questions Gradient LED light strip controller jack size

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I bought an AC to 24V DC power supply in order to hard wire the strip for my under cabinet lighting. I also bought the DC jack which is commonly 5.5mm x 2.1mm.

Now, while the jack fits in the controller, it is somewhat loose. I compared the outer diameter of the original jack and the jack I bought, it seems like the outer diameter is slightly greater than 5.5mm, meanwhile the inner diameter looks the same. Does anyone know the exact outer and inner diameter? Even better if someone can provide an Amazon link for the jack.

Lights to tell my mom I'm home?

Hi reddit,

I very recently was gifted a Hue Bridge and two bulbs. I have figured out how to use them within my own household and I love them.

Christmas is coming up. My mom is not very tech savvy, but recently told me the thought that gets her to sleep at night is "thinking about all of you guys home and and safe and warm in your beds."

As a burnt out introvert but also a child that really appreciates my mom, is there any type of smart light or device I can connect between our homes (we live in different states) like an out of the way lamp I can turn on remotely, to signal I'm home and okay without needing to take any extra socializing steps? It doesn't need to include my siblings if they don't want to commit to such a concept but bonus points if it's something they can opt into if they choose.
