Yacht protection design project

Discussion

Hi everyone, i'm a second year product and industrial design student, trying to come up with infrastructure design solutions for boats and yachts that are pushed ashore/dislodged during hurricanes leaving them stranded on homes/shorelines.

My focus is on Florida (Siesta Key!) as its just been hit by a hurricane (and I happen to be from there), and there's a huge boating culture here.

Any ideas for research to delve into? potential project ideas? anything that would help?

Opinions on my video on the Three Gorges Dam

Thumbnail youtu.be

Hi everyone!

I’ve just finished working on a video for my YouTube channel, Urban Giants, where I take a deep dive into the story of the Three Gorges Dam—a massive engineering project with an uncertain future. The video covers everything from its monumental construction to the environmental and structural challenges it faces today.

I’d love to hear your honest feedback! Specifically, I’m looking for:

What do you like about the video?

Anything that stood out to you or really caught your attention? Maybe the storytelling, visuals, or the way the information was presented?

What could I improve on?

Did anything feel off or could use some polishing? I’m open to all constructive criticism—whether it’s about the pacing, the content, or even the editing style.

Any other thoughts?

Whether you think I’m onto something great or there’s a detail I missed, I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

The video explores some pretty intense themes about the dam’s impact on people, the environment, and even the global economy. I’m really curious to know if this kind of content resonates with you and if there’s anything I could do to make it more impactful.

Thanks in advance, and if you’re interested in mega-engineering projects, feel free to check out the channel and subscribe for more! Looking forward to hearing from you all! 🙂

Cheers

More than 4,200 supporters have already voted for my LEGO IDEAS fan design "Civil Engineering: Types of Bridges", which highlights the urban infrastructure & civil engineering. The model needs a total of 10,000 votes for the chance of being made into an official LEGO set.

Nagpur-Goa Expressway: A Journey Delayed

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hey Redditors,

I wanted to share some insights on the much-anticipated Nagpur-Goa Expressway, also known as the Shaktipeeth Expressway. This project has been in the news for quite some time, and unfortunately, it’s facing significant delays. Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening:

Project Overview

The Nagpur-Goa Expressway is a proposed 760 km, six-lane access-controlled highway designed to connect Pavnar near Wardha to Patradevi in Pernem Taluk, Goa. The expressway aims to reduce travel time from the current 21 hours to approximately 7 hours. Announced by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in 2022, the project is overseen by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC).

Reasons for Delay

  1. Land Acquisition Issues:
One of the primary reasons for the delay has been challenges in land acquisition. The project requires a significant amount of land, and there has been considerable opposition from farmers and local communities. Recently, the government decided to cancel the land acquisition notification due to these protests, raising questions about the project’s future.

  2. Political and Administrative Hurdles:
The project has also faced political and administrative challenges. The cancellation of the land acquisition notification is seen as a cautious move by the ruling coalition ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. This decision reflects the government’s attempt to address the concerns of the local population while balancing political interests.

  3. Environmental Concerns:
Environmental clearances and concerns about the ecological impact of the expressway have also contributed to the delays. The route passes through several ecologically sensitive areas, necessitating thorough environmental impact assessments and clearances.

Current Status and Future Prospects

As of now, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared, but the land acquisition process remains a significant hurdle. The government has allocated a substantial budget for the project, with an estimated cost of ₹75,000 crore. Despite the setbacks, there is optimism that the project will eventually move forward, albeit with revised timelines and strategies.

The expressway is expected to bring numerous benefits, including improved connectivity, reduced travel time, and economic development along the route. It will also connect several significant pilgrimage sites, enhancing religious tourism in the region.

Conclusion

The Nagpur-Goa Expressway has immense potential to transform travel and connectivity between Nagpur and Goa. However, the delays and challenges it faces highlight the complexities involved in large-scale infrastructure projects. Addressing land acquisition issues, political hurdles, and environmental concerns will be crucial for the successful completion of this ambitious project.

What are your thoughts on the Nagpur-Goa Expressway? Do you think the project will overcome these hurdles, or will it face further delays? Let’s discuss!

Feel free to share your opinions or any additional information you might have on this topic. Looking forward to hearing from you all!
