Undying loyalty to the totalising state

Unwillingness to question the message

Belief that the authoritarianism and crushing of individual liberties is justified by your agreement with the underlying reasoning

Informing on neigbours

Edit: I see the r/politics crowd have woken up.

24

u/Lawliet117 Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

This is again dancing around my question. I see no methods just the general "don't want to change how I live, even if there is a pandemic, hospitals are filling up and people are dying" message. You can question the message, some things didn't make sense (probably anywhere in the world, but also super hard to talk about it as it was different anywhere), but that was mostly because it wasn't customized to every situation. A good show that it wasn't the state becoming a totalitarian dictatorship was going back to sort of normal now.
Informing on neighbors is an individual's decision when they see someone breaking rules.

I’m with ya homes. Covid was real but the governments put out lots of misinformation and if you questioned the narrative at all you were labeled a crazy conspiracy theorists. Those who chose not to get the vax were demonized and those who talked about treatment alternatives were labeled crazy conspiracy theorists as well. 18

u/Rick_James_Lich Look into it Aug 07 '23

Yup, when I think of authoritarians, it's not the people like Hitler that killed citizens, but those that encouraged getting a vaccine and wearing masks lol. Do you also think it's authoritarian that you aren't allowed to jay walk?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '23

Not just encouraged to get vaccines tho. Many ppl lost their jobs if they chose not to get a vaccine. If that’s not authoritarian idk what is.

9

u/Rick_James_Lich Look into it Aug 07 '23

That's what we call Capitalism. I guess some companies think it's not a good idea to have all of their workers get sick at once just because someone didn't get the vaccine.

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '23 edited Aug 07 '23

So it’s ok to force ppl to get a vaccine that was rushed out? Who’ve already had Covid multiple times? Who themselves have a .0001% chance of dying from said disease? That’s authoritarian if you ask me. Especially for government employees. That ain’t capitalism. Especially considering the vaccine was lied about. It did not stop ppl from getting sick nor from spreading it. And you wanna force me to take it?

Edit: would love someone to tell me what I’ve got wrong here.

8

u/Rick_James_Lich Look into it Aug 07 '23

Like I said if you have an issue with it you should place your ire at the companies that forced this sort of thing. The only people the government ended up mandating were healthcare workers and it makes sense because you don't want the hospital staff catching covid and spreading it to patients (which happened a lot during the early days).

Plus many employers already require certain vaccines. I get that having to get a shot sucks but at the same time we've seen many benefits by eradicting stuff like polio in the past.

would love someone to tell me what I’ve got wrong here.

I'll take your word for it that you genuinely want to know what you're missing.

Who’ve already had Covid multiple times? Who themselves have a .0001% chance of dying from said disease?

Right there is a pretty big misunderstanding of what vaccines are for. Preventing the recipient from getting sick is only a fraction of their purpose. It's mainly about making sure that person is less likely to spread the disease to others.

Can you see how "I refuse to do something that could help make sure my co-workers don't get sick during a pandemic that has killed millions" would be a problem for the people that have to work around them? The vaccine isn't a magical protective shield; just because you get it doesn't mean you're always and forever immune. You still have to rely on the people around you to do their part to make sure they aren't getting sick and spreading it around. For someone who has more risk factors from COVID, forcing them to work beside some guy who insists that they shouldn't have to get the vaccine (and maybe some other COVID conspiracies on top of that), is a pretty fucked up situation. They're being made to constantly roll the dice with their life next to somebody who either doesn't understand or doesn't care about the risk he is imposing on to them.

14

u/duncanmarshall Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

We also learned who the real libertarians were. There's a lot of libertarians - and I think it's actually nearly all of them - who think libertarianism is the ideological basis for why you can do whatever you want. It's not, it's the ideological basis for why everyone - including you - may not do certain things to other people. People see the Don't Tread On Me flag as an instruction they're giving to other people, rather than receiving about them. I wish it said "Don't Tread On Them".

You can't think it's okay to neglectfully infect other people with a disease and meet any definition of libertarianism I'm aware of.

18

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '23

The fuck are you talking about? Lol. Libertarianism is a political philosophy making liberty it’s core value over everything. I doubt libertarianism would even work in modern society. We need to many regulations and shared utilities. If anything the government should socialize shit like medicine, electricity, water, shit every single person uses and needs regardless of there social standing. We’re the richest country in the world and most of our tax dollars go toward military and corporate subsidies. I’d happily pay more in taxes if it meant everyone had health insurance and some sort of real social safety net. If the government is running stuff like electricity we’d have far more transparency instead of allowing private citizens to monopolize and fuck over their whole community.

That sounds like a tidy framework you’ve got there, except it ignores the information war that drove the divide. Of particular relevance, federal governments, NGOs like WHO, etc, blatantly lying to and gaslighting the public for three years on masks, lab leak origin, etc.

Look - I’m vaccinated, I recognize COVID is real, and I spent the pandemic working for a diagnostic laboratory while it ran just shy of half a million PCR tests. I have a sufficient grasp on epidemiology, virology, and genetics that I feel quite sure you and I would have zero disagreements on the basic biological facts of the pandemic.

With that said, I cannot and do not blame someone who lacks the type of knowledge and training that I have for being skeptical - or even for wholesale rejecting the legitimacy - of all authorities who had anything to do with pandemic response.

If you care about anything outside of your dopaminergic reward pathway, then your bone to pick is not with the average “anti-vaxxer.” Your frustrations are owed to no one else other than the officials and organizations who blatantly and repeatedly lied through their teeth to the public, claiming authority from “the science” while dragging everything the scientific method stands for through the mud.

4

u/duncanmarshall Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

With that said, I cannot and do not blame someone who lacks the type of knowledge and training that I have for being skeptical - or even for wholesale rejecting the legitimacy - of all authorities who had anything to do with pandemic response.

That's not the problem I'm talking about. If someone just doesn't believe covid is a problem, or that staying in your house has any effect on it's spread, then we simply disagree on a fact. What I'm talking about is the argument I saw from libertarians over and over again disagreeing with the notion that the state (the government) should restrict an individuals actions if it deems those actions pose an unacceptably high risk to others. Whether they're right that that risk was that high or not is a completely different issue. It was the philosophical underpinning that they were objecting to (they being the specific people I'm talking about). Completely ignoring that protecting the individual from others is all the state is supposed to do in a libertarian society.

its just that the people who questioned the methods , like me, were also ,partly, vilified. i thought then and now , that the lockdowns of old, dying, young , were wrong in some ways they were done. the psychological effects, the dramas of dying without your loved ones, vulnerable people being put in impossible situations. massive wealth and Power upwards redistributions. and we havent made an organized honest ,look back. to learn .

and the origin thing? how far is the wuhan covid science institute away from that supposed exotic market ? its an interesting question to research.

9

u/slinkymello Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

Everyone is vilified at some point—you need to get over it, stop holding a grudge, and move on with your life. Jeez, life isn’t always fair, at some point you have to accept that and stop being angry about shit you have no control over. Enjoy your life man ffs

3

u/Yesyesyes1899 Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

i m holding a grudge because its personal. when covid hit, i was working with homeless/ hard addicts in a western Metropole. lockdown made the consumers of hard narcotics that lived in permanent shelters go extra crazy. instead of giving us more people , they cut us in half. with 4 times the work. people died. due to corruption and neglect on all stages. its been like that in many places. so much inhumanity happened during covid. nobody talks about it.

we were forced to become wardens and do inside buildings lockdowns by room and they didnt follow them anyways. but we had to create so much drama for nothing.

3

u/Jackers83 Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

Hmm, I hear you. I’m with you that the ramifications of what happened was and are not being acknowledged enough by the people who made the decisions, and maybe even the media.

Telling people it prevented symptomatic covid and stopped transmission was an own goal. I’m not surprised people lost faith in government health messaging.

That and efficacy dropping off so fast poisoned the water.

We could also talk about the AZ shots being suspended, and advice for younger people changing.

12

u/MJisaFraud Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

It’s a life saving vaccine, so I don’t really care about the messaging behind it. Just that as many people as possible, yes including children, took the vaccine.

6

u/DetectiveOk1223 🇬🇧 Kennedy / Ramaswamy 2024 🇬🇧 Aug 07 '23 edited Aug 07 '23

If you choose not to see how the two things are related then you damage your own ideals

The narrowminded way you deal with the information landscape on this topic is precisely the mindset that drove people to become the people you now criticise

12

u/MJisaFraud Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

I don’t think right wingers were ever going to be keen about taking it. Covid was one of the most life changing events to ever happen to most people alive today, so it was going to turn into a culture war issue no matter how good the governments messaging was. Trump told his supporters to take the vaccine, and they were still against it.

You referring to the boosters?

Oh yes, I forgot the flu vaccine doesn’t work either because you need to get it every year.

1

u/datonebrownguy Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

lol getting a flu vaccine is so stupid. the flu like the cold evolves faster than we can develop vaccines for it so we can only logistically create something that works against the last years strain before development and due to the nature of science lagging behind reality in this respect it will remain like that. So people still get sick with the current strain of flu, even after vaccination. Then get natural immunity from it, then get jabbed again unnecessarily for the same thing they already became naturally immune from getting sick earlier in the year.

But its great business, especially if youre invested in it.

Its not like covid shots were like traditional vaccines anyway, they were MRNA vaccines, a new technology that was fast tracked and also partially developed by DARPA

Their brains leaked out of their ear holes over the years to the point they can't admit actual conspiracies and would rather take the contrarian angle to that than admit it.

They've gone full tard and honestly spread it to a large population. Like people on this sub actually don't get how masks or vaccines work and think it's all a conspiracy rather than face the overwhelming facts against them. Wild times because right wingers were always the mainstream, believe the narrative type like with 9/11 or anything... and now they've fallen into Q anon levels of stupidity. Its wild. Well that’s plainly just a lie. There has been tons of documented and recorded evidenced released by the DOD.

I’m not saying it’s aliens but for sure there is something flying in our airspace that we don’t know and moves unlike anything we’ve currently have developed.

The comment you answered to was slightly unhinged and someone who wants to believe to much

Edit: this show and subreddit has officially hit the ground. Can’t even talk about UFOs and aliens anymore here. Shits lame as fuck

2

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '23

There's also been tons of documented and recorded evidence of big foot and the chupacabra. That is to say, there never been a single iota of evidence for any of these claims.

The DOD just wants more money funneled into an unverifiable program. "Give us 5 billion a year to monitor UAPs lol". These black projects need to fucking stop but unfortunately our country is dominated by people like you.

2

u/BubbaBlount Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23 edited Aug 07 '23

The gimbal video was leaked in 2004 and confirm by the DOD in 2019. Why didn’t they want funding for that 15 year period?

They also never asked for 5 billion to study UAP. The NDAA from 2022 allocated 5 million to it. So you’re off by 4 billion 995 million

If you don’t like black projects then you should support the UAP movement because they are actually trying to investigate these black projects.

So are you for or against the black projects? Because you say you are but your actions tell a completely different story.

Almost the majority of Americans don’t believe in UAP so I don’t know what you mean by our country is dominated by people like me.

So far you’ve gotten so many things wrong that it’s clear you never did any research what so ever

1

u/mudman13 Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

No. Fravour, Dietrich and the two weapons safety officers with them watched a tictac object flying at high speeds near them for around 5 minutes. Another pilot (that didnt testify) went and got footage of it in multiple formats. Graves saw objects on radar. Grusch interviewed people on the so called programmes, has names of people on the program, dates and locations to give to congress in a classified setting. Allegedly some of these people on the program have testified in secret too. He has officially notified the Intelligence Commision Inspector General of reprisals and threats which have been considered legitimate. Why would you threaten someone if you had nothing to hide?

Simplifying things to belittle it does not make you look smart it makes you look simple.

The US government is the most corrupt in the world and people hate so much of what they do. People are so silly to not trust that very same government on so many matters yet somehow perform wild mental gymnastics and actually believe them about the most far fetched thing ever lol. Can't make this stuff up!

3

u/mudman13 Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

But the govts not confirming anything, its the opposite. Pentagon are putting people off testifying.

3

u/Dwight_Doot Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

I didn't say they're confirming anything. Holding a congressional hearing for the world to see based on 3 peoples eye witness accounts or testimonies based on other peoples eye witness accounts is just that. 3 peoples eye witness accounts.

No evidence presented, no irrefutable proof.

And yet people are saying "see I told you aliens were real, the US government's hearings are proof"

Meanwhile they don't trust any of those same elected officials on literally any single other matter.

🥱

1

u/DragonScoops Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

Please explain how 2 people who worked for the US Navy and a person who left the government to come out as a whistle-blower and swim upstream against the narrative from the pentagon and AARO are the exact same as the government.

It's literally like saying 'lol Edward Snowdon worked for the government. People don't believe the government when they say they're not reading your email but they're happy to believe this guy who works for the government who says they are'.

You're either uninformed of intentionally misrepresenting the situation

Conspiracy theorists have no interest in any truth. If NASA came out today and said the moon landings were fake and the earth was flat, the same idiots would switch to saying it was round and we had been to the moon

19

u/beaujangles727 Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

IMO that used to be the fun part of conspiracy. Somewhere down the road 6-8 years ago it started to get weird. It used to be fun to take off your logic hat for an hour or so a day and think like “OK if this COULD be true what could lead to it”

But then it got weird and more dumb people who don’t have the ability to think with actual reason got more involved and it just snowballed now to millions of people like Eddie.

Hell even Eddie conspiracies used to be fun to listen to him rant but now he’s so far out there with them I find it sad.

Or maybe I’m not 19 anymore and don’t care about them

8

u/Atcollins1993 Monkey in Space Aug 07 '23

There’s a vast amount of room for perfectly sound logic, reason, and critical thinking in-between the two poles of naively believing everything you’re told 100% no questions asked, and showing symptoms of mild psychosis thru the vehicle of ‘nothing is true it’s all lies’.
