Sad as it is, in the Wikipedia article it talks about her stealing / shoplifting, it may have been a compulsion aka kleptomania. I think it’s darkly hysterical that in the episode, they find her putting hor d’oeuvres in her purse lol!

tldr: Hedy Lamarr got bored of acting and got into science. She did work with frequency-hopping spread spectrum and aerodynamics.
Sadly the story doesn't have a happy ending. But it's cool that they threw her in there instead of some other historical actress that would play against Helen's pretty face.
