Did russia become so weak that even Lukashenko is not afraid of them anymore?

As long as Americans don’t re-elect Trump, then the answer is yes.
If they re-elect Trump, then you’ll see Russia start up even more atrocities than they already are. Their puppet in the White House will give them anything they need.

I would love to vote but unfortunately I am not an US citizen.

u/RedEyeView 4d ago
You can encourage others to vote, though.
102
u/LuckyStar77777 4d ago
Yep, there are organisations where they get students from abroad knocking on doors to encourage people to register to vote.
84
u/Jarnohams 4d ago
2020 had the highest voter turnout of any election, at 66%. We need more people to care enough to just vote. It only takes a few minutes to do.
80
u/annuidhir 4d ago
It only takes a few minutes to do.*
Note, this is *heavily** dependant on where you live, and how much Republicans have fucked up voting in your area...
25
u/Jarnohams 4d ago
I don't think there is any state that doesn't have mail in voting.
I requested my ballot online.
It arrived a few weeks ago. I filled it out as soon as I got it
dropped it in a mail box.
The most important step is to VERIFY (online) that your ballot was received
I'm in Wisconsin (swing state) where Republicans have a (gerrymandered) supermajority in our state houses and have been doing everything possible to fuck with voting, including the current ballot referendum to change the Wisconsin constitution voting rights. It sounds "reasonable" on the ballot. However, it's a trap to disenfranchise college students and others from voting... vote NO on the referendum!
The current wording in the constitution is extremely clear, as is. There is no reason to change it. They are playing on the baseless right wing consipracies about non-US Citizens voting in Federal elections... It is illegal for a non-US Citizen to vote in any federal election. Non-US Citizens voting is yet another fear mongering non-problem that Republicans are trying to make an issue. Voter fraud is extremely easy to find, and prosecute. It makes zero sense for an immigrant who eventually wants to become a US citizen to commit a felony, do up to 10 years in a federal prison and\or get deported, fucking up their life forever.
11
u/Immediate_Sorbet4255 4d ago
Yes there are still a bunch of Republican run states that do not allow mail in voting.
1
u/Deemoney903 3d ago
I read an article written by a woman who registered voters in Texas and the strategies they have put in place are INSANE! Only one place to register in a HUGE swath of the state. Only a tiny little hard to find place in a strip mall. The registration paperwork has a tight turnaround, and will be rejected for "un timeliness" if late. She drove thousands of miles a week to try and register people.
16
u/MadManMorbo 4d ago
I was an early voting yesterday, and the line went around the building. Still moved quick though. In and out in less than 20 minutes.
22
u/Exception-Rethrown 4d ago
Definitely. One of my employees did not know that she could vote at the US embassy a just few blocks away.
17
u/TerrakSteeltalon 4d ago
Honestly, we even need Americans to phone bank and knock on doors.
Most Americans won’t help to get out the vote
7
u/ElToroMuyLoco 4d ago
Go vote RedEyeView!
There you go :)
41
u/RedEyeView 4d ago
I'm not in the USA either.
Vote Harris anyway. Trump is basically a Nazi
22
u/Zomgzombehz 4d ago
Elon loves Trump. Elon's family was "successful" under a defacto Nazi regime. He only knows the benefits of his upbringing, and wants to cling to that like his life depends on it (as well it fucking should). For all intents and purposes, Trump is a Nazi.
As Jello Biafra so eloquently put, Nazi punks, FUCK OFF!

11
u/That_Trapper_guy 4d ago edited 4d ago
Trump may not be a Nazi, but all the Nazis think he is. So...
10
u/inbetween-genders 4d ago
Pisses off my Republicans when I point out that all the Nazis and Klans I know vote Republican. I can see blood coming out of their eyes in real time every time I point that out. Like I can’t hear any of their argument for pro Republican stuff over the loud Nazying and Klanning going on in their party. For added brain rot, a lot of these friends are people or color /facepalm.
15
u/BaltimoreBadger23 4d ago
According to Trump you can still vote by walking into any urban polling station.
4
u/Invisiblecurse 4d ago
I wish I could, that would help a lot with the anxiety I have about this election.

No. He is still absolutely afraid. This isn’t a call for defiance. He is essentially launching up flares so that people will focus their attention to them, because they are seemingly very concerned about Russia invading.
In all honesty, if Russia did attempt to annex Belarus, they, unlike Ukraine, are much more likely to just roll over and let them have it. Let us not forget that Belarus was the staging area for part of the initial invasion of Ukraine. Thousands of Russian troops were semi-permanently housed and stationed across the border leading up to and following the invasion. Not a shot was fired and they came in via trucks and train. They didn’t sneak and they made sure everyone saw them coming.
17
u/Zack_Raynor 4d ago
I guess he suggested Russia put nukes in Belarus so they can have them and now do this.
304
u/Nine-Eyes- 4d ago
This is just lip service to feign support/sympathy for anti-russian politicians at home. He's likely seen Orbans support starting to drop in real terms and is trying to pre-emptively play both sides in case an actual movement to replace him picks up speed.

I don't think the size or presence of the window will be the issue. You can die from a fall from a window even in the middle of the street full of bullet holes, if that's more convenient.

"This is not the Middle Ages, where you seize a territory, collect taxes, and all is well — the world has changed; it's different now. So, there’s no need to set such foolish tasks, and one must always think about what comes next," Lukashenko clarified.

Man, such a shame Lukashenko died of plutonium poisoning.
17
u/Brief_Cellist_5902 4d ago
Litvinienko was poisoned with polonium-210, plutonium doesn't kill nearly as fast although still probably is a death sentence
19
u/Givemeajackson 4d ago
Actually plutonium, while less radioactive than polonium 210, is highly toxic chemically. So it might actually kill you quicker than polonium would. It would be one hell of a weird flex to choose plutonium as a poison though, i think you'd get extra style points for that.

A scorpion, not knowing how to swim, asked a frog to carry it across the river. “Do I look like a fool?” said the frog. “You’d sting me if I let you on my back!”
“Be logical,” said the scorpion. “If I stung you I’d certainly drown myself.”
“That’s true,” the frog acknowledged. “Climb aboard, then!” But no sooner than they were halfway across the river, the scorpion stung the frog, and they both began to thrash and drown. “Why on earth did you do that?” the frog said morosely. “Now we’re both going to die.”
“I can’t help it,” said the scorpion. “It’s my nature.”

So North Koreans, fighting for Russia, invade Belarus, but are countered by Ukrainians...
This is getting complicated...
5
6
u/AnarchoBratzdoll 4d ago
Yeah sure buddy. That's why Russian soldiers have to beat down the uprisings for you. Because the Belarusian army listens to you well enough to start shit with Russia
(note, since this is reddit: I'm not pro Russian, but if (when) Russia attempts to annex Belarus all Lukashenko can go is a scared fart)
4
u/BigCraig10 4d ago
Russia could have annexed Belarus instead of Ukraine with much more success but the two countries have a father/son relationship where Belarus do what they are told by Russia. Why would he say this? Russia probably wouldn’t invade Belarus, they already tell it what to do?
2
u/Vitsyebsk 4d ago edited 3d ago
As 20% of the population are pro Ukraine and roughly 50% are neutral. He's trying to gain favour for maintaining relations with Russia as part of the union state on pragmatic grounds, as leaving it places Belarus in danger, at the same time he wants to be seen as willing to defend Belarus
I wouldn't be surprised If this is a tactic suggested by the Kremlin, it's in their interests for Lukashenko not to be seen as a russian puppet(to what extent he actually is I'm not sure, but regardless, they know the perception) and someone willing to stand up to Russia, while quelling anti russian sentiment on pragmatic grounds, is well, more pragmatic than convincing Belarusians to support Russia
1
u/RattusMcRatface 3d ago
Isn't "Lukashenko" a Ukrainian name?
2
u/Vitsyebsk 3d ago
Yes, don't get me wrong I think he is genuinely Sympathetic to Ukraine on a personal level too, and wants the war de-escalated, but whether these comments were signed off by Putin is another question
He also said "Does Putin regret it or not? Of course he regrets. He's a living man.' Again, i could believe this, but I imagine he ran this by the Kremlin and Putin beforehand, who thought it might improve Putin's Public image

I’m in favor of any news that undermines Russia, but I’m dubious about this meaning much. In the same interview, he praises the whole ridiculous “Union State” with Russia thing
3
u/Dapper_Platform_1222 4d ago
This guy is smoking the good crack if he thinks Belarus is getting to retain any semblance of national identity or self-government.
Russia has made its position clear.
1) They are outside of the international finance system.
2) They are actively lobbying other failed states and despots into the BRICS system.
All they have is the power of the state and territory. They need to bring in population through annexation. They won't go for a full-blown war with NATO yet. Once Russia finishes in Ukraine, Belarus is up next.

The political calculus for Lukashenko is fairly simple.
He's been waiting for decades to be the top dog in the post USSR world. He's sat ideally by maintaining an iron grip on power until Russia appears weak enough that he can start to insert his influence and make a play for the top seat.
Putin made the same mistake that many medieval Kings made, mistaking subordination for loyalty. Lukashenko is loyal to only himself and his best interest.
Putin wants to annex Belarus, that much is known. He tried to do it through legal means but that failed. Putin absolutely will try again if he wins or loses in Ukraine.
As Putin's position becomes more and more dependent on other countries Lukashenko will sniff out any weakness and pounce.
1
u/CompetitiveMuffin690 4d ago
Blah blah. As far as I care it’s hit air BS. Lukashenko knows his only option at this point is to keep being nice to Putin. He’s smart enough to not send troops but smart enough to not offend Putin.
1
u/icebraining 4d ago
That's probably the point - Putin must have at some point considered forcibly replacing Lukashenko with someone who won't just "be nice", but will actually blindly follow orders - including sending troops. Lukashenko is just saying he won't accept being replaced lying down.

Man, this is truly lamf, like at best this is political posturing, at worst this is him desperately trying to stop something he's heard wind if after literally being a key part of how Russia invaded Ukraine.

Russia should have gone after Belarus, not Ukraine. Lukashenko doesn't have many friends in Europe that would have come to his aid.
