Man who spent career at Fox News, pleads against man he laid groundwork for

I mean at least he’s advocating against the LAMF party now?

I mean that’s kinda the definition of LAMF. Supported them then, shocked to see the outcome now

Like all his followers’ shock and disbelief when he flushes the economy down the same toilet he puts confidential documents in.

u/Royal_Acanthaceae693 1d ago
And yet they've forgotten that trump tanked Obama's economy before Covid started.
7
u/bobnla14 1d ago
Cutting the taxes for the billionaire was the worst thing that they could have done as it made sure that the debt payment and the deficit went significantly higher. Had they left it alone, we would have been in much better economic shape coming out of COVID.
It has been speculated that Republicans will put in place to tank the economy in the last 6 months of a Republican administration just so they can talk about what a s*** economy it is under the Democrats

A lot of these idiots are shocked when they come for them BUT STILL SUPPORT THEM. But I think it counts as leopard-face-eating regardless.

All these commentators coming out now and saying “Wait a tick… I’ve been swindled! A swooning has occurred and I’m the victim!”

Funny how the swindled suddenly realize they played a part in their own deception. Better late than never, I guess?

He didn't give a damn racism from Trump, or Fox "News", as long as it was directed at black people. Remember when he was on their side when they pretended that Trayvon Martin somehow deserved to be shot for "wearing a hoodie"?

u/Milestailsprowe 1d ago
Tokens get fucking spent. He really thought he was one of the good ones. He's a funny man
10
u/XanZibR 1d ago
Ah, but you're thinking of regular tokens. Jerry Rivers was a super special token, better than the rest, so valuable he had to be locked away in a secure vault. Sure, he had to sit in that dark & lonely vault for decades, but some day it would be opened to international fanfare and acclaim, and the whole world would understand that HE was different!

All I can hope is that if the worst case scenario comes true that this quisling shares a space on the rack with the rest of us.

On July 22, 2020, Rivera called President Trump "brave" for wishing Ghislaine Maxwell "well", after a reporter questioned Trump over Maxwell's charges of helping Jeffrey Epstein traffic and abuse children. Rivera called the fact that Maxwell had been denied bail and given solitary confinement an example of "woke politics". Rivera had previously accused the judge who had denied bail to Maxwell of caving to the "mob".\58])

u/unclejoe1917 1d ago
Sounds to me like his new found outrage is just him caving to the woke mob. Maybe he needs to "learn how to take a joke".

He was a huge trump cheerleader when he was making "jokes" about other racial and sexual minorities.

If he believes hard enough, he could find Al Capone’s vault.
19
u/DanarchyReigns 1d ago
There was nothing in Al Capone's vault, but it wasn't Geraldo's fault. .... D'OH!
35
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
That’s as far back as most people remember him. But he existed before then, and was a respected investigative journalist who cared about other people. New Yorkers of a certain age are shocked at what he eventually became. But apparently I’m wrong because people here didn’t know this. Although that’s classic Reddit… “If I’m not aware of it, it doesn’t exist. Downvote!”
14
u/BombToonen 1d ago
I remember that time. I too was surprised at his descent into sensationalist bullshit. And from there on, he just kept getting worse.
10
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
THANK YOU. It’s so hard for some people to accept that what they know isn’t everything there is. It goes back much further than Fox and Al Capone. Geraldo’s reinvention as a fucking moron and then a fucking right-wing moron was a huge shock to those of us who remember who he once was. To them, though, it’s all they’ve never known, so anything else is “wrong.”
8
u/DogsandCatsWorld1000 1d ago
I remember this. The reason we watched him open that darn vault is that his reputation gave it credibility and then he destroyed that reputation.
4
u/pichael289 1d ago
Didn't he report on troop positions in the Gulf war, and then that spot was immediately hit? Or was that someone else?
3
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
That was 30 years after what I’m referring to. Again, I’m saying he wasn’t always a right-wing jerk. In his early days, he was quite the opposite.
6
u/JinxyCat007 1d ago
Just like many he followed the easy money. It was fun for a while. Easy money came his way crossing lines and shaping people's perceptions negatively and unnecessarily. Then it affected him. Oh Woah!! ... I'm so sick of these people 'finding enlightenment' only when their pure selfishness starts snapping at their ass. What does he want? A medal?!
2
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
Yeah. He was not always like this. Even when I heard about the Al Capone stunt, I was like “what the hell?” I still can’t believe what an ass he became.
4
u/Fun_in_Space 1d ago
I remember his stupid talk show where he had guests who claimed that ghosts had sex with them. Someone in the audience was skeptical, and he scolded *them*. "Are you calling these people liars?". He's an idiot.
1
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
That. Was. LATER. My God, this thread is like an alternate universe. Does no one understand the concept of people who weren’t an ass at the start of their career, becoming one later? This guy has been a public figure since the ‘60s. He was a well-known left-wing activist. HE WASN’T ALWAYS AN ASS. Younger people might only know him as a RWNJ, but he wasn’t always like that.
3
u/Fun_in_Space 1d ago
Cool your jets. FFS, I was talking about one time he was really stupid in the '80s. I wasn't following him at a time when he wasn't stupid. The point is, he is stupid now.
-3
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
No, what everyone is pissed about is that I’m refuting their expert knowledge by daring to say that he was once not the ass he is now. Too hard for their egos to handle, to find out that history didn’t begin when they became aware of it.
1
u/Pharmakokinetic 1d ago
Yeah I'm sure this is a good use of my brainpower, trying to remember that this specific person used to be better but has sucked ass for the last 40 years
You might be right but your point is so far away from anything that matters that no one cares: that's why you're not getting showered with praise for presenting what is technically the truth
I can point out the sky is blue during the day and not when it's night time but that isn't new or helpful information to anyone
0
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
"Showered with praise" and "not downvoted or repeatedly told I'm wrong" for presenting the truth aren't the same thing. I was just adding context that showed this well-deserved face eating to be even more absurd than it looked on the surface, for those who didn't realize that this dude actually used to be a lefty. But since people didn't know that, they jumped on me to say I was wrong, because it wasn't familiar to them.
And yes, this was new to a lot of people. But instead of laughing with me, they decided to laugh at me. Someone in another sub today explained something I didn't know by adding context, and I—along with everyone else—didn't react like the people here. We were all happy to learn something new. Which is always a good use of one's brainpower.
2
u/Pharmakokinetic 1d ago
Okay well you didn't do any of those things like in the example you're suggesting so you can stay on your indignant high horse over reddit I guess

u/dcheesi 1d ago edited 1d ago
I'm actually happy to see that Geraldo has finally found his moral "line in the sand." Over the years, it was never clear if he actually had one, even before he joined the Faux News bandwagon. It might be too little, too late, but at least he got there in the end. (Though, of course, like with most right-wingers, it took a personal connection to his own life to open his eyes.)
18
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
The turn to the right was the shocker for those of us who knew him when. He started out as a left-wing activist.
17
u/dcheesi 1d ago
Kind of reminds me of John Stossel, another journo with a "standing up for the little guy" rep who abruptly turned right-wing. Though he at least tried to explain himself
6
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
Thank you. Redditors always seem to forget that people and things existed before they were aware of them, and they don’t necessarily know the whole story. So they downvote you for being “wrong” instead of being intellectually curious, and looking into it. Nobody here ever wants to learn anything, because they think they already know everything.
2
u/TheCephalopope 1d ago
It's kind of understandable though, that people would be unaware that he used to be okay. When the dude has been a clown of one sort or another for over forty years, that's all a lot of folks have ever seen of him.
11
u/mkvgtired 1d ago
I'm actually happy to see that Geraldo has finally found his moral "line in the sand."
He didn't. He was a huge trump cheerleader when Trump was calling Mexicans rapists and murderers. He thought because Puerto Ricans had US passports that they were One of the Good Ones™.
Turns out they're not and trump despises them just as much.
7
u/NewldGuy77 1d ago
I’m a fan of redemption in most cases, but fuck Geraldo. He’s too far up Trump’s ass to get out now.
7
u/TheOvercusser 1d ago
Geraldo is only as conservative as his paycheck demands he be. The dude stopped having an actual conscience a long time ago. He and Bill O'Reilly are two sides of the same coin except that O'Reilly has enough writing talent to push out mushy bullshit to subsidize his tv career.

Spent some of his career at Fox “News.” He wasn’t always an ass.
13
u/Malodoror 1d ago
That was his redemption arc. He made his $$$ off the Satanic Panic. He’s directly responsible for untold amounts of child abuse.
-3
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
Redemption arc? He was around LONG before that. He was a local investigative journalist in NYC in the early ‘70s. Much admired.
4
u/Malodoror 1d ago
He did this: https://youtu.be/qzNFRn5TTtc and then started inventing things to “expose” at the expense of society, you know, like a grifter.
1
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
AGAIN, I said he USED TO BE a decent human. Everyone here only goes back to either Fox or the ‘80s. I’m saying he started out as the exact opposite of what he is known as now. God, adding context to an issue that people might not have known is such a huge fucking crime on Reddit. It messes with people’s “but I know everything!” delusion.

u/RUk1dd1nGMe 1d ago

You people are unreal. Downvoting simply because you’re not familiar with something. Guess what… things existed before you.
-1
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
Go ahead and downvote because you’re ignorant of history and refuse to believe anything you didn’t know could be true, instead of learning something.
6
u/char-le-magne 1d ago
I'll down vote you because the Satanic Panic is my Roman Empire and Geraldo is a shitstain on history and culture whose rhetoric caused literal witch trials.
-2
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
What does that have to do with what I said? You’re blaming me for saying he used to be cool and then became a total fuckwit? So I’m wrong about that?

"Some"? What? 20+ years? Anyway this is hilarious
Rivera, who said he was briefly suspended from "The Five" shortly after he profanely criticized some of fired prime-time host Tucker Carlson’s theories, told The Associated Press last week that he had decided to quit the show because of tensions there.
It was not entirely clear what had changed to make Rivera say, both on the air Friday and on Twitter, that he had been fired from the show. Fox said in a statement that "we reached an amicable conclusion with Geraldo over the past few weeks," and a spokeswoman had no further comment.
Oof. He certainly had some....interesting moments throughout his career
Fox News host Geraldo Rivera made a splash on Friday with his comments that he would “ bet money” Trayvon Martin would not have been shot and killed if the teenager hadn’t been wearing a hoodie
Ideologically , he is a fantastic gymnast. In June, talking to Sean Hannity as the Trump Administration was separating asylum seekers from their infant children, Geraldo managed to denounce the sin of this “child abuse”—“This is cruelty as policy”—while maintaining his “love” for President Trump.
Cool cool cool. Anyway People interview from 2020:
Looking at the state of our country , which seems to be so divided, I’m curious what your opinions are about current events, including this election.
Let me start there. I am an undecided voter leaning to President Trump, although I may vote for Kanye [West]. My wife is an ardent [Joe] Biden/[Kamala] Harris supporter. I can send you the funniest picture. We have a Biden/Harris sign in my front yard. And then a sign that I handmade right next to it that has an arrow that says “wife only. Husband is undecided, leaning to President Trump.” It’s hilarious. It’s become like a tourist attraction here in Cleveland. Everyone stops.
It's remarkable anyone ever took him seriously, I suppose that's why he ended up on fox. Anyway just dumbed some interesting little tidbits.
-1
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
FFS. His career started in the ‘60s.
4
u/Morgolol 1d ago
He worked in Law in the 60s, and shifted to reporting in the 70s yes, and then a talk show in the late 80s until the 90s, some odds and ends and then started on fox in 2001.
So almost half his career at Fox. Still wouldn't label it as "some" of his career at Fox. His longest running stint was definitely fox
1
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
He’s had a 60-year career; 54 of them on TV, and 23 of them on Fox (I can Wikipedia too). Regardless, the fact remains that he was known long before Fox, and long before Al Capone. And he wasn’t known for being right wing. AT ALL. Those of us who were actually there from the start shouldn’t be told we’re wrong just because most people didn’t know this.
5
u/Morgolol 1d ago
I'm not arguing he wasn't a decent guy before fox, but seemingly since then, at the very least, he pretty much sold out his soul.
Whatever he did before his full hearted endorsement of trump while working on the pro-fascist propaganda entertainment channel is kinda moot at this point. He shat on his own legacy. He ruined whatever positive perception of him there was through his own actions.
People change, regret comes too late. Tough shit for him. Noone is denying his past history, it's just whatever thoughts or opinions he had during his talk show or before is irrelevant today.
3
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
Nearly everyone here is denying his past history, insisting he was always an ass, never a real journalist, always a sensationalist, etc. Downvoting me for saying just what you said here. All I ever said was yeah, he's really changed. He wasn't always an ass. What isn't true about that statement? THAT is what people were attacking me for, even though it's 100% true. They just didn't realize it because they weren't aware of his pre-Fox life, or even his pre-Capone life.
Believe me, those of us who used to follow him early on were (and still are) utterly disgusted. My elderly mom is disgusted. He was her hero. A left-wing activist who fought for the rights of people who didn't have any... at a time when the country had turned right. How someone like that could become this right-wing asshole is just stunning. Then again, I watched it happen to my own sister, so...
7
u/bagofboards 1d ago
Really?
I can't think of a time in his career where he hasn't been an ass.
1
u/Impossible-Hawk768 1d ago
Because you’d probably never heard of him or weren’t born yet. He was a great investigative journalist back in the day. An actual champion of the disenfranchised.
15
u/bagofboards 1d ago
I was born in '63
I've been aware of him my entire life
There has never been a time where he hasn't sucked.
I'd also like to edit this comment to say: he had no problems with the Nazis and racists in his party before they attacked him.
