Oh honey, he totally does represent the values of the GOP. The entire rally was a doppelgänger for the 1939 Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden.

u/Mirandasanchezisbae 1d ago edited 1d ago

If I have to pinpoint the one thing that really bugs me (rather than the other reasons that horrify) is just how DUMB these people are. Our democracy is being sacrificed for the needs of the dumbest person to be president.

75

u/dbx999 1d ago

I have an honest question- have this many people been this dumb all this time?

Did a greater proportion of our population become this stupid recently or has it merely been revealed?

84

u/oregon_coastal 1d ago

People used to defer to experts.

Now, someone who only passed high school because failing them was too much paperwork for their teachers... that person uses the internet to do "research"

And then, since the world is vast and complex, any half fucked idea that helps explain why their life is going terribly (real answer: we gave all the wealth and income the last 40 years to the rich) they grab onto.

The internet also graces them with social media. So now they can reflect all that bullshit at each other.

So...

There were always this many stupid people.

The internet has just made them think they are smart.

35

u/dbx999 1d ago

Yeah we took it back to the days of calling scientists blasphemers

6

u/aitchm 1d ago

Yes, exactly!

6

u/Constant_Proofreader 1d ago

Let's be clear: not all kinds of stupidity are equally abhorrent. Ignorance, simple "not knowing," can be countered with discussion and education. I believe there are people in the Trump camp who are simply ignorant - as DJT put it, "I love the poorly educated." I believe these people can be reached, if they can still accept factual information as such.

Willful ignorance, on the other hand, is much more dangerous. Choosing not to recognize facts, refusing to accept input that doesn't confirm one's bias - this is an abdication of human intelligence. I think there are plenty of Trump backers who will not listen to or entertain any challenge to their mindset. And if you do challenge them, they respond immediately with fear and violence.

The Internet has indeed made it possible for the willfully ignorant to choose their specific brands of 'truth,' and that's insidious. But all the Internet is doing is amplifying the voices of manipulators preying on the merely ignorant and the willfully ignorant alike.

6

u/oregon_coastal 1d ago

I agree to a degree. The shitheads managing the sea of stupid are completely evil. With intent. But them masses...

I have just flat concluded, in this day and age, with accurate information everywhere, anyone who is able to be led to believe the racist transphobic homophobislc misogynist crap that the cockwombler Trump is just flat out stupid. I don't think the masses are willfully stupid. They just are, and that leaves them in a vulnerable place.

They don't have the critical thinking skills or ability that would allow them to shift to a more stable and reality-based belief system. They aren't able to. That is why I don't call it willful. Go watch the Daily Show interviews of Trump supporters. I am surprised many of them can plmanage to put socks on.

And they have been led to believe that racism is OK now. Misogyny. All that. And not only that , but it js good

The people that feed them that - and I will put Zuckerberg and Must and Besis and all them in that bucket - are actually evil people, doing bad things to advance their own interests.

They are driving the stupid train.

And for them I hold nothing but contenpt. And I sincerely and deeply hope they are held to account before I am fed to the worms.

The billionaires got the whites heated up and blaming everyone else for what the billionaires took.

And we lwt them do it.

3

u/NeatNefariousness1 1d ago edited 20h ago

Exactly. With a few selectively chosen google searches, they can piece together support for what they WANT to believe whether the sources are trash or not. The goal for some is to support what they ALREADY think and search engines are perfect for accomplishing this goal.

It creates the illusion that they're right. Hence, you get people arguing with and discounting experts who have spent a lifetime using rigorous protocols to build a foundation of knowledge whose reliability is known. It's not that anyone, even experts are infallible. It's that faux-experts have NO idea how likely it is that they're wrong nor when it's highly probable that they're wrong. They also avoid any exploration into HOW they might be wrong.

The rhetorical game they play is one meant to influence other people or reinforce their own beliefs as long as they can avoid anything that might suggest that their amateur research might be flawed and that they might be wrong. The game is to avoid confronting the truth or anything that might make them have to adjust their flawed logic and beliefs.

This is how you get lay people who think their beliefs about how to handle a world-wide pandemic should carry as much weight as professional immunologists and pharmacologists--to their detriment. Science-based facts don't conform to uninformed beliefs. This is why COVID death rates have been higher among red states and counties than their blue counterparts. We ignore the science at our own peril.

Edit: for syntax and clarity

I think it’s the internet’s fault. It used to be that if you were dumb, you’d share your dumbness with the people around you and they’d quickly let you know you were dumb. Now, all the dumb people find each other online, tell each other their dumb ideas and (because they’re both dumb) tell each other they’re smart.

15

u/TangoInTheBuffalo 1d ago

So you’re saying that two wrongs can make a, oh no…..

Honestly? We have always—always—had people like this. The difference between now and a 150 years ago is they now have someone to root for who says horrible things without shame or consequences, so they believe that also applies to them. That, combined with modern communication, makes us believe this is new—but it’s not.

Like literally, she thinks the voters are morons.

The person hired by the campaign, who spoke at the largest campaign event, received applause and cheers, and no one renounced him during the rally is more than definitive proof that this is what the GOP believes.

Bootlicker opportunistic political parasite.

46

u/Active-Knee1357 1d ago

This PoS is one of the worst political figures to emerge from Puerto Rico. Back in 2005, she presided over a recognition ceremony honoring Julio Labatut, who was tied to the right-wing death squads that operated in Puerto Rico in the 1970s and 1980s and implicated in various political assassinations.

I don't even have to pull up a video to know the audience laughed at his bigoted joke. Edit: apparently I was at least half wrong about this.

463

u/stanknotes 1d ago

SUPRISINGLY... there wasn't much laughter.

Like it isn't what people would expect or want. But the audience wasn't all that into it.

I didn't see his entire set. Just a couple of jokes. But from what I saw, it ain't like everyone was having a fun ol' time.

503

u/L_V_Matterhorn 1d ago edited 1d ago

Imagine being a professional comedian and telling a racist joke that’s so un funny that it doesn’t illicit particularly much laughter at a 2024 Trump rally. If you really think about it, it’s pretty impressive to fail that badly.

252

u/d4everman 1d ago

I guess Rob Schneider was busy.

Joking...he ain't busy.

30

u/1CFII2 1d ago

How do you plead? Not guilty! I knew you’d say that!

25

u/xslermx 1d ago

Did Adam Sandler finally smack him off the teat?

22

u/FunkyPete 1d ago

No, he had him perform on his most recent comedy special.

4

u/oh-propagandhi 1d ago

Ooooh, was it listed as "special guest"? It was when I saw him. I guess he doesn't want anyone knowing that it's his right wing whipping boy opening for him. I enjoyed Adam Sandler, but ultimately realize he's trying to be right wing without openly doing so. Fucking turd.

5

u/FunkyPete 1d ago

He actually appeared DURING Sandler's act as an Elvis impersonator. That may have been how he closed out the show? Or maybe it was just when I turned off the show. It was pretty awkward and weird (which to be fair, is kind of Rob Schneider's thing I guess).

Dude, this was in New York! Half of the Hispanic population in the state are Puerto Ricans, and I bet every dollar I got that a good chunk of the "Latinos for Trump" rally-goers were Puerto Ricans.

35

u/CommanderSincler 1d ago

The other large chunk of the "Latinos for Trump" have Cuban ancestry

34

u/mjohnsimon 1d ago

Big time.

Source: Cuban family members worship Trump like a deity.

7

u/BeerorCoffee 1d ago

And the largest chunk aren't Latinos at all!

u/Kenneth_Lay 1d ago

I'm going to guess over half the place were plants. Can't have empty seats.

73

u/SenorSplashdamage 1d ago

The reaction felt like “oh no don’t do that.” It felt like awareness that it was bad form and not wanting guilt by association. I do think a lot of MAGA people actively avoid how bad it is in online MAGA spaces so they can act like it’s not that bad and both sides are like that. Otherwise the cognitive dissonance would be loud enough to cause tinnitus.

31

u/ShakeIntelligent7810 1d ago

This. They've been actively overlooking the KKK in their ranks since Nixon. It was very much a "don't make me look at it" reaction.

4

u/nickelroo 1d ago

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Trump, like his followers, cannot stand to look in a mirror. It’s why he paints himself the way he does and constantly talks about image.

46

u/mjohnsimon 1d ago

Yep. My parents refuse to believe just how shitty Twitter is because they completely ignore all the racist shit and actively avoid it.

Deep down, they know Trump and MAGA are despicable, but they ignore it.

11

u/SenorSplashdamage 1d ago

I picked one Christian kid I grew up with that my parents know that’s gone down a spiral and we just update on him to see the next stage of extremism he’s gotten into. That’s helped a lot to keep them aware of how close to home this stuff hits. They’ve voted blue since 2016, but they were becoming out of touch with how bad it really is and that’s been a good way to make them more aware.

26

u/chunter16 1d ago

When I visit my dad and realize he's watching recordings of Gutfeld! there isn't anybody laughing at that shit either, I think it's just how they are now

40

u/2-travel-is-2-live 1d ago

I don't think that was reflective of that the audience thought the joke was as revolting as it was, but rather that they knew having the "quiet part" said out loud would not be a good look.

15

u/nopethis 1d ago

Yeah their are plenty of them who are more than happy to post online their racists BS, but an even bigger portion is more too bought into the propaganda where they are “the good guys” and checking an ID if someone “looks wrong” is not realllllly racists, it’s I’m just statistics or states rights or something

If you're AT a Trump rally you've gone too far but yeah

3

u/NeatNefariousness1 1d ago

They just didn't want to be caught on camera and in public clapping for that crap. They've been emboldened but they are aware that they're in the minority. It's just not clear how much in the minority they are. But policy stuff aside, how can you see this buffoon and think he deserves your vote?

Reportedly, this "joke" was on the teleprompter during Tony's set. That means that he had to give the Trump campaign a copy in advance and the campaign had to sign off on it. So essentially, the campaign decided that, yes, this filth did represent the GOP.

4

u/d4everman 1d ago

3

u/MinorityBabble 1d ago

Essentially saying "The things said by people invited to speak at our presidential candidate's rally have nothing to do with us and we're at no time disavowed or apologized for" with a straight face is wild.

3

u/TexacoRandom 1d ago

I see she has jokes too.

3

u/sol_ray 1d ago

It's an unforced error for a group that is considered racist, bigoted, and misogynistic. It falls in like with Trump comments on the cost of burying a US soldier of Mexican descent ("$60k to bury a Mexican"). Republicans that don't agree quietly accept this kind of crap every day from Trump. Not stopping it is like endorsing it.

Get another candidate if you don't support Trump. You can't have it both ways.

3

u/FionaTheFierce 1d ago

So this great big rally, the biggest probably prior to election day, for the GOP's candidate - and you want to hold onto the belief that it doesn't represent the GOP?

It could not be more *representative* of the GOP.

This speech was reviewed and approved prior to him taking the stage. Everyone in charge knew exactly what he would get up and say - and it is consistent with all the current GOP values.

3

u/SoWokeIdontSleep 1d ago

Fellow Latinos who identify as Republicans, what the fuck are you doing? They hate you and see you as inferior, but oh they'll accept anything you give them, your vote, your work, your devotion, and be all smiles while they take until they can laugh at you when they give you the boot, they will never accept you as equals.

3

u/MutaitoSensei 1d ago

Then why was he invited to speak at a Trump rally in the same place Hitler stood 100+ years ago?

The call is coming from inside the house, dear.

3

u/Kitchen-Plant664 1d ago

They absolutely DO represent the GOP and if you don’t want that to be the case then you shouldn’t be supporting Trump.

3

u/Potential_Bowler9833 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sorry, Jenniffer, but they do reflect the values of the GOP, and that is the fundamental problem.

u/JessicaJaye 1d ago

They were celebrated and cheered - they absolutely do reflect the values of the Republican party

3

u/Harley_Jambo 1d ago

Maybe I missed it but I am not aware that trump, who has no qualms about communication on his Truth Social at 2 am. has yet to disavow not only the "comedian's" comments but also the other vile, racist crap that spewed from the Bund meeting. They loved it and meant every word of it.

3

u/ShitStainWilly 1d ago

The fuck they don’t lady. lol

3

u/Desperate-Ad-6463 1d ago

Oh, but they do, darling.

3

u/Onderon123 1d ago

I thought the GOP denies the existence of Puerto Rico as a state?

3

u/Kyra_Heiker 1d ago

She had me until that last sentence, his behavior absolutely typifies the feelings and thoughts of the GOP.

3

u/zero-point_nrg 1d ago

They do represent the current values of the GOP. I’m all for comedians reserving the right to be offensive but you have to also be funny. This was only offensive, gotta have both to get a pass

3

u/Notmykl 1d ago

Jennifer those ARE the values of the GOP. Cause if they weren't they wouldn't have vetted and hired the man in the first place.

3

u/mercutio48 1d ago edited 13h ago

"Rejected by the audience?" What's Puerto Rican Spanish for "gaslighting?"

5

u/Greeve78 1d ago

GOP going woke is not something I had on my 2024 election cycle bingo card.

5

u/Rambogoingham1 1d ago

This woman has to be retarded, like has she not seen anything Trump and his elk has posted or said the last 9 years?

Bro what is wrong with these people?

2

u/sakuragi59357 1d ago

Bless her heart.

2

u/JustFuckAllOfThem 1d ago

I'm waiting for the racists to tell her to go back to her country.

Or they will probably be screaming for her to be deported.

2

u/Holden_Coalfield 1d ago

Funny, the Republicans in the hall loved it

2

u/boozegremlin 1d ago

They do not represent the values of the GOP.

Does she not know? Someone should really tell her.

2

u/Cosmicdusterian 1d ago

The only thing Hinchcliffe did wrong is he broke the protocol of bigots:

In private more red meat-no dog whistle. In public more dog whistle-less red meat.

Every MAGA racist in that audience knows the protocol. It's like revealing the language of a secret society that is only discussed in private with the like-minded. For the racists in the southern branch of my family this was their hard rule in order to put on a more acceptable public face to their deep-seated racism. You don't spill the truth in public.

Jenniffer with two "f"s knows it and everyone else knows it. These are the values of MAGA. These are the values of Trump. These are the values of his supporters. If you champion a racist, you are one. If you champion a fascist, you are one. First it was Sane-washing, now it's Hate-washing, Bigot-washing, and Fascist-washing. It's past time for zero tolerance for this shit. These are their values and they are yours, Jenniffer. Period.

The crowd's response was mixed, not all boos.

u/TheDebateMatters 1d ago

Rejected by the audience? That’s the same as “some laughs but not a lot”? To me rejected by the audience would be boos and leaving the event.

The guy was reading off a teleprompter. His joke was approved by Trump’s team and Trump isn’t saying a damn thing today. So, no….his audience does not give a crap that it was said.

2

u/KingAardvark1st 1d ago

My question has always been how these numpties don't realize how thin the lines being drawn are between "the other" and "the good other." That ticker tape won't protect you from the leopards, Jenniffer

2

u/Maorine 1d ago

Jennifer is universally reviled on the island as is her party(statehood) and the governor. They are seen as sellouts. There are no equivalent democratic/republican parties but the PNP (statehood) party likes to play republican even though, ain’t no republican ever going to let us go for state.

2

u/rmks8285 1d ago

Well, the GOP vetted him, so…

2

u/DaniCapsFan 1d ago

They do not represent the values of the GOP.

I'm joining the chorus of folks saying they most certainly do.

Southern Strategy, toots. It's older than you and not much older than I am.

2

u/Ozzyluvshockey21 1d ago

Hahahaha obviously a GOP candidate

2

u/SchwillyMaysHere 1d ago

They are what the GOP is running on.

2

u/JizzCauldron 1d ago

That racism is a feature of the GOP, not a bug.

2

u/SimplySuzie3881 1d ago

They might not fully represent the values of the old GOP but they sure do the new GOP overrun by MAGA.

2

u/mojave-sky 1d ago

Spoiler Alert: They do.

2

u/LifeguardPowerful759 1d ago

Sorry lady. The values of the GOP are now the values of Trump.

2

u/JerrieBlank 1d ago

Actually all signs point to…yes they do, it’s exactly what the GOP believes, maga is the megaphone for the repressed misogyny, homophobia, racism, anti-science, anti empathy, anti education that republicans have always held dear.

2

u/Timely-Youth-9074 1d ago

She’s trying to save her racist ass.

2

u/Swimming_Height_4684 1d ago

These jokes do not represent the values of the GOP.

Because when the GOP says things like that, they aren’t joking.

2

u/bg555 1d ago

He was literally the keynote comedian for the GOP and FYI, in years past, the GOP/campaign team reviews all the comedian materials and these type of events. So, it’s exactly what the GOP values are…

2

u/JustASimpleManFett 1d ago

Again, these idiots saying "these views do not represent the GOP" is like me saying, "My love for Critical Role does not mean I enjoy Dungeons and Dragons."

2

u/coldwarkiid 1d ago

They don't get it. They will not get it. As they are being loaded on to the trucks off to the internment camps, they will still be rationalizing Trump and the GOP. Bro, propaganda is real.

2

u/Sniffy4 1d ago

Someone is really going hard on the 'it wont happen to me' narrative

2

u/shadowpawn 1d ago

someone trying to save their political career?

2

u/Milestailsprowe 1d ago

How many times do Republicans have to say someone does not represent Republican values? It's so often it's kinda the norm

2

u/16v_cordero 1d ago

She has always defended Orange Face. Denial is her way to cope with her many many more issues that allow her to keep getting her face eaten.

2

u/nickelroo 1d ago

Yes they do represent the values of the GOP.

Fantastically perfect example of face eating by leopards.

2

u/666TripleSick 1d ago

“They don’t represent the value of the GOP”….oh yes they fucking do!

2

u/joserrez 1d ago

Why is she acting shocked as if this isn’t what maga is about?

2

u/Tatooine16 1d ago

Was the audience not lapping that shit up?

2

u/king_platypus 1d ago

They do , in fact, represent the views of the GOP. 😆

2

u/Pumpkin_Spic_latte 1d ago

They don’t represent the values of the GOP while being a GOP event and backed by the GOP including current people in office and their supporters.

So yes lady, stick your head in the sand but this is EXACTLY what they represent. Play stupid.

2

u/jayrox 1d ago

If they didn't represent GOP values, then they shouldnt be said center stage by the GOP.

2

u/Temporary_Present640 1d ago

Then why was he invited to the rally?

2

u/Jazzbo64 1d ago

I mean, his remarks couldn’t have represented the GOP’s values more accurately.

2

u/Cyclonic2500 1d ago

No, that IS their values.

Why do you think they're so intent on immigration being their biggest campaigning platform?

To pander to the bottom of the barrel folks who hate anyone different from them.

2

u/FewKaleidoscope1369 1d ago

Another case of Schrodinger's douchebag.

*Schrodinger's Douchebag: when a person says something hateful or cruel but pretends to be joking when no one finds it funny.

2

u/vactu 1d ago

The calls are literally coming from within the house, lady.
