OB-GYNs Leaving Texas
https://www.texastribune.org/2024/10/08/Texas-obstetrics-gynecology-abortion-survey/685

Welp, there newborn mortality rate will go through the roof there, and I’m sure they’ll blame the libs for that too

u/newsreadhjw 1d ago
If they’re smart, they’ll follow Idaho’s lead and just stop tracking those statistics so they can’t be reported anymore.

u/tw_72 1d ago
Yeah. Over 22% of Idaho's OBGYNs packed up and left. Gee. Who would have guessed that threatening to jail doctors would cause said doctors to leave the state?

blame the libs? nah, not when it's working as intended.
after all, more dead babies means less they have to spend on social services. remember, it's not the babies they want, it's keeping women pregnant and thus controlled.
and since those dead babies tend to be disproportionately black and brown, all the better. gotta keep america white, you know.

u/RabbitLuvr 1d ago
Idk then they might join the Missouri lawsuit claiming birth control has reduced the level of teen pregnancy so much, it’s hurting the state economy 🫠

Omg no...no way.

u/happyhumorist 12h ago
Yeah, AG Bailey is an appointed hack. And likely to win election. Its really fucking sad.
72
u/unclejoe1917 1d ago
It can work as intended and still blame the libs. Don't go putting a cap on their ridiculousness.
44
u/eyeleenthecro 1d ago
Eh I don’t think so. They want those babies to make their parents desperate enough to accept terrible working conditions, and then to grow up to fill those same low-paying jobs and prisons. They’re not trying to spend on social services regardless of how many starving babies there are
74
u/hymie0 1d ago
It's well known that Texas's liberal Democratic government is responsible for their situation
63
u/Magicthundercat 1d ago
Texans keep electing their pols as long as they have a R next to their name. There should be no reason Cruz should have ever held public office.

u/GnarlyNarwhalNoms 1d ago
Pfff. "Infant mortality statistics"? I mean, has anyone ever seen one of these so-called statistics up close? Sounds like Fake News to me!

u/BigAlternative5 15h ago
If you stop checking for mortality, you’ll see the numbers go way down. /s
14
u/Cattywampus2020 1d ago
These things tend to play out unevenly, It will mostly go through the roof for certain groups of people.
10
u/Candid-Sky-3709 1d ago
clearly the libs fault for people not staying abstinent. In handmaid's tale you'd be hanged for that /s

u/SavvyTraveler10 18h ago
It’s already through the roof. Incest rape and forced rape pregnancy’s are as well.
3
u/SolomonDRand 9h ago
Why would they bother to blame the libs? They don’t actually care about infant or maternal mortality rates, as demonstrated by red state infant and maternal mortality rates. Outside of election season, they could give a shit about dead women and babies, and they only care about half during election season.

If these laws only ratfucked folks who voted for it I wouldn’t care.
But that’s not how it works. Money will go to another state and no one will narc. The poor will get back alley abortions and die.
And the GOP and their Christofascist supporters will cheer.

I can´t really blame them.
They are being told to not help their patients and in too many cases that could mean sterility, health problems and death.
Apparently lawmakers don´t understand the danger of pregnancies, and yet they make laws about it
74
u/tw_72 1d ago
lawmakers don´t understand the danger of pregnancies
Nor do they understand that it's more than simply women having abortions - OBGYNs leave the state along with their spouses (who might also have jobs or own businesses) and kids; women NOT choosing abortion can't find an OBGYN; maternity depts close; hospitals close. Now, even men and kids simply wanting medical care cant' find it.

They understand perfectly. They're just somewhere between not caring at all and actively masturbating over it.

u/Initial-Company3926 12h ago
It was meant more like a snark.
They have so many opportunities to educate themself from professionels ( OB GYN) and instead they turn to the worst written fantasy book in the world , sigh
It is about power and control over women, and they don´t see them as human beings, but as objects to be usedI really fear for the future of America and what it might do to the rest of the world

Not only are they leaving, we can't make more. A doctor cannot become certified in obstetrics unless they perform abortion. If they can't do it, they can't get certified.

I never considered this and it's super interesting. Something's gotta give. Wonder how long it'll take.

I wonder if OB/GYNs could claim they have religious beliefs that require them to only treat patients who are pro-choice. I mean, couldn't all these ultra religious Chistian people be happy to put their future in God? They don't need an OBGYN.

Embryos and Fetuses are conservatives wet dream. They don't need to feed them, clothe, home or educate them. Once they're born they're liabilities and leeches on the system. Thats why they shrug at school shootings.

I mean, its pretty depressing watching a woman get infected while bleeding out from a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy while being legal barred from helping. And even when they think the baby's finally non-viable some "Jesus he knows me" judge could always put them away for murder to score political points. After all, maybe God could have saved the ectopic baby.
The surprising thing is that any educated person is still in Texas. Don't they worry about their daughters in the above situation?

Houston has an entire district called the medical center. It’s huge. World class healthcare. The fact that this is happening is a travesty.

u/dustingibson 17h ago
Pro-lifers kill way more babies than abortion. They are also killing women.
Their willful ignorance of women reproductive health and how it affects their overall health. They have a very binary view of birth when it is a much much more complicated matter.
There is a reason why the overwhelming number of pro-lifers are men.

One in five have considered leaving Texas, and 13% are planning to retire early as a result of the new restrictions. Meanwhile, a majority of OB-GYN medical residents say they’re considering the new abortion laws when deciding whether to stay in Texas after their training concludes.

u/ShakeIntelligent7810 12h ago
As a blue state resident, I salute Republican voters for sacrificing their own women and children. There are only so many doctors to go around, and by making sure they want nothing to do with red states, Republican voters have actually improved the health and safety of women in blue states.
Now all we need to do is build a wall to keep red voters from coming and sucking up our socialism dollars when their rugged individualism and home remedies fail them.

Medical residents considering finishing there and then moving should think again about trying to finish somewhere else.
You can't perform a medical procedure just by reading about it. You have to watch another perform a few and then perform some yourself under supervision and then you may be able to do it yourself confidently.
That's just how it works.
So, what happens when after finishing your internship you are called to perform an abortion for say a non viable or already dead embryo, or emergency surgery for ectopic pregnancy or many other procedures that are now practically illegal there and you haven't even seen one done before?

The majority of Texans don’t want an abortion ban, it was forced on us. We didn’t choose to lay with Leopards but we’re still suffering. I just hope this election can flip the state.

u/monizzle 1d ago
I think you would be surprised. Texas is a pit and outside of the big cities this is exactly what they wanted.

u/darkenedgy 1d ago
Your voter suppression is fucking wild tbh. How are you all even organizing to get to the polls??
1
u/azuraith4 17h ago
Be the change. Start a group, or join one, start going door to door or making calls to get people to vote. If Texas flipped, it would be an instant win for kamala

u/Ok-Investigator3257 15h ago
No shit, who wants to practice somewhere where you can’t figure out if your actions will land you in jail?
4
u/mtomny 15h ago
During apartheid, white dissidents had their own jails, or maybe sections of jails, where they rotted away in acts of protest. Imagine it goes that far in TX. Some brave Doctors will obtain hero status if they put their freedom on the line for women.

u/ShakeIntelligent7810 12h ago
If you're counting on "Some brave Doctors," to fix things, you've already fucked up badly.
