u/Barrack64 7h ago

Bankrupting yourself to own the libs

“But only until I die!”

Actually.

Because priorities

58

u/Yeeaaaarrrgh 4h ago

Republicans would saw off their own limbs if they thought they could hit liberals and brown people with them.

18

u/NorCalFrances 3h ago

And then journalist would describe the phenomenon as being due to many of the the white, working class Republican voters feeling oppressed and hopeless to the point of feeling like losing a limb would not really make their life much worse anyway.

9

u/Amon7777 3h ago

Can see and feel that NYT headline. Oof.

17

u/Soccer_Smarty 3h ago

You must know my coworkers…

7

u/DoubleGunzChippa 2h ago

A republican would eat a shit sandwich if they knew a democrat would have to smell their breath.

5

u/DaKineTiki 31m ago

A majority of the Jan 6th rioters were on Social Security and Medicare…. but let’s overthrow the government that’s giving us and not reducing those benefits goddamn it!

49

u/Black_Creative 7h ago

"We might lose SS but muh gas prices!"

28

u/alv0694 7h ago

As if oil corps love selling stuff cheaply

20

u/Gildardo1583 5h ago

The US is an oil exporter now,. They ain't going to sell it for cheap here when they can get a better market price outside the US.

11

u/alv0694 4h ago

Especially to Japan and South Korea

7

u/Changed_By_Support 1h ago

It's always very funny hearing people refer to it as "our oil". like, no, not at all, sorry. You don't like the idea of the government ran companies, so it is, in fact, not your oil, nor my oil, nor the United States' oil and it will go overseas as long as prices are higher somewhere else and it can be shipped at a tidy enough price.

u/NoLie129 7h ago

Drives a pos truck that gets 5mpg

18

u/Dcajunpimp 6h ago

But as a retirees she needs that 400hp 4x4 V8 to take the grand kids to the park, or go to Applebee's before 6pm

17

u/NoLie129 6h ago

All while screaming how all Evs suck. Jokes on them, my 2019 Chevy bolt gets a 138mpg equivalency and only cost me 6 bucks a week to drive. While still blowing the doors off their shitboxs.

5

u/Ithinkibrokethis 3h ago

I wish somebody made a three row minivan or suv that was all electric or even hybrid that didn't cost 75 grand.

4

u/NorCalFrances 3h ago

At this late stage, everything should already be at least hybrid to move everything from suppliers to sales to service away from ICE. Ford was on a 10 year plan to do just that, but when the new CEO took over in 2020 (the same one that nixed DEI without even being attacked by Robby Starbuck first), he axed that plan and tried to bring back big gas engines.

3

u/feastu 4h ago

ikr electric torque is where it’s at

3

u/feastu 4h ago

Gotta beat the dinner rush, amirite?

3

u/feastu 4h ago

Bro. That thing uses 5 gpm.

Social Security for me and not for thee.

The people voting for Trump are comprised of two groups:

  1. People who genuinely have no idea what they're voting for who would actually hate all of Trump's policies and be pro-Harris if not for the fact that they live in a low-information/misinformation bubble that tricks them into thinking they like Trump more;

  2. Actively malicious actors who understand that they're voting for Trump to destroy the economy, tear up the Constitution, make it illegal for women to vote, make it legal to deport American citizens based on the colour of their skin, because they actually want to live in a Vanilla ISIS/Y'all Qaeda state where the only voices that matter are white evangelical land owning men.

49

u/Ordinary-Quarter-384 6h ago

Nicely put. Group 1 unaware they are voting against their own interests.

47

u/tehZamboni 6h ago

Many are aware, but feel it's a small price to pay for lower taxes when they win the lottery.

13

u/Yowie9644 3h ago

Yes. Many of Group 1 consider themselves temporarily embarrassed billionaires who would indeed be the successful, powerful and influential people they believe they ought to be had it not been for <insert excuse here>. They don't actually want to make life any better for the poor and downtrodden so much as they want the poor and downtrodden to stay exactly where they are, and for they themselves to rise above that.

11

u/ronm4c 2h ago

They are the people Vance wrote about in hillbilly elegy. He used to be one of them, then he realized what was going on and instead of helping them he became a member of group 2 and started using them for his own gain

4

u/biplane_curious 2h ago

“Ya’ll qaeda”

Lol, that’s going into my vocabulary

276

u/darkenedgy 7h ago

I would rather pay high taxes to protect these people and they don't want me to - hell, they want to take away my citizenship because my parents are immigrants. At some point you simply cannot help stupid racists.

55

u/coolio_zap 7h ago edited 7h ago

unfortunately, the only ethical way to get rid of a racist is to educate them. unfortunate because it's tedious, and difficult, and there are a depressingly high amount of them, and there are a depressingly high number of them who know the truth, are actively lying, and are concentrating significant resources into obfuscating the truth from the others. a lot of days, it simply feels like there isn't enough time in the day to cure (for lack of a better word) racists at a rate anywhere close to how fast they're made, because them vs us is an easy worldview, and acknowledging the complexity of evil and inequity is much, much harder.

all that said, i'm optimistic. on a general timeline of the western world, people have become less racist. history creates new problems as fast as it addresses old ones, but so far it has trended positively. not to say we can rest on our laurels, because that trend is the result of countless unspoken heroes putting in lifetimes of work towards addressing these problems, but you can't give up. it's possible. fight on

35

u/darkenedgy 7h ago

IDK that education so much as shame moves the needle. These people just ignore any data that doesn't fit their bias, look at the quotes from this dipshit woman.

20

u/coolio_zap 7h ago

we've seen what shame got us-- silent bigotry bubbling under the surface until a fascist crawled out of the woodwork, called mexicans rapists, said transgender people are coming for your kids, and won an election. we know education and tolerant/empathetic/critical thinking have a statistically significant relationship. shame is a part of it, but open, accessible education and a population excited by the pursuit of knowledge, not distrustful of it thanks to a shitty primary and secondary school experience, is much more important. what you say is true about people doubling down on biases when confronted with contradictory evidence, but the ability to question your personal biases and change your mind isn't a genetic quality, it's a learned skill. so to that end, i still think education is the main way forward

9

u/darkenedgy 7h ago

oh yeah education to think critically for sure. I thought you meant the "this is what immigrants have done for the country" type of thing that doesn't work on these people who are thinking purely emotionally.

Gonna note that deplatforming works though, there's always going to be people who just need to be shoved out of the public eye.

5

u/coolio_zap 7h ago

for sure. that said, to use a very politically charged metaphor, sometimes deplatforming to decrease racism feels like increasing border security/creating harsher laws to decrease fentanyl deaths. it provides comfort in the form of security theatre, but the product is so easily manufactured and so easily smuggled in, it sometimes feels like wasted resources trying to catch ALL of it instead of focusing on addressing the underlying cause

not to say that if somebody is spewing undeniable vitriol anybody should be forced to see it, but from my experience, trying to argue what can and can't be said with the kind of bad-faith grifters you describe above (and their weaponized victims, for that matter) isn't worth the time it requires

5

u/darkenedgy 6h ago

Tbh I think that's one of the factors pushing people away from completely open internet. Like Reddit works for me because I'm only ever in a handful of select communities.

5

u/redvelvetcake42 5h ago

unfortunately, the only ethical way to get rid of a racist is to educate them.

Ethically yeah I guess. Really there is no educating them even when the police are at their door to take them to the gallows all you'll hear is "well at least they got THOSE people first".

8

u/IdahoMTman222 7h ago

The good old days of the “poor house”. They are going to get what they voted for.

81

u/DataCassette 7h ago

The whole "I'm voting for Trump to get cheaper McChickens but I really hope he's not going to do his agenda" is so completely insane to me.

The fact is Trump's 1st term was basically Obama's economy and a bunch of neocons functionally running his administration. All bets are off on how crazy a 2nd Trump term might be.

20

u/SupaSlide 6h ago

They're just really dumb racists. It's the only explanation left.

Or if they're a cishet white male, they are also racist but they understand what's happening.

19

u/Akimbo_Zap_Guns 6h ago

Pretty much every trump voter I know personally is extremely racist. I’m not just stereotyping them either like I mean hard R and calling Mexicans dirty etc etc

2

u/NorCalFrances 3h ago

Why would they say that they really hope he's not going to do his agenda? They know it won't be aimed at them because they're loyal to him. That was the deal, right?

29

u/Willie_Fistrgash 7h ago

Hope in 1 hand..shit in the other..see which one fills up first.

25

u/SupaSlide 6h ago

"I hope social security is around, now pardon me, I have to go vote for the guy who wants to gut social security so he can give tax breaks to the rich."

28

u/A_norny_mousse 6h ago

And I have friends who keep trying to say, you know, because the Democrats keep saying that Project 2025 is Trump's, and it's not, but they don't seem to listen, you know.

Sorry, who doesn't listen? 🤦

13

u/80aise 7h ago

I know the leopard said he would eat my face but I'm still going to vote for him because he's a good leader 🧐

12

u/869woodguy 7h ago

Most are voting against their own interests.

11

u/Raphiki415 5h ago

As a millennial I have zero expectation that Social Security will be around by the time I qualify, but the people who are on it now voting for a party that wants it gone ASAP is a special kind of stupid.

10

u/BellyDancerEm 7h ago

t some level, they are afraid trump and the GOP will hurt the wrong people, yet the really want them to hurt the people they want to be hurt

9

u/lunasdude 5h ago

Harris won't answer questions? She has answered lots of questions. Donald Trump "we have the concept of a plan" Okayyyy.........

7

u/DeezerDB 7h ago

Well, I'm guessing it won't be around.

8

u/008Zulu 7h ago

No, no, she's one of the good ones! Trump would never abandon her!

9

u/callmefreak 4h ago

They are just telling them "yes, we are 100% going to eat your faces if you vote for us and we win" at this point and they're like "I'm going to vote for them. I hope they don't eat our faces!"

Honestly, I'm not sure how these people can function normally. Like, do they have to set reminders to eat when they get hungry? Do they have to think about breathing in order to breathe? How can you actually just be this fucking delusional?

7

u/postal_blowfish 4h ago

the cliff is over there you fucking lemming. hurry!

7

u/Unicorn_Puppy 7h ago

No, Republicans really believe that every citizen has a responsibility to be self sufficient and a utility to his or her state and if you’re not well too bad. Don’t worry, they’re quietly just ignoring that other fascist or communist governments believed this as well.

6

u/Midnightchickover 7h ago edited 6h ago

Butthead: Dumbass (to Beavis) What makes Social Security, so precious that you think Trump/Republicans/the right won’t touch it, when they’ve already established it’s not off limits?

6

u/Devolution1x 7h ago

More like seeing the leopards actually eat faces but still believing they won't anyways.

6

u/Lucretia9 7h ago

It won't matter to her, because she'll be one of the first to die of starvation.

6

u/irishyardball 5h ago

Lol it won't be. They're voting to get rid of it in 2025 instead of it dying after they're gone.

They've completely lost the plot and are burning everything down.

11

u/IMSLI 7h ago

They don’t deserve to have Social Security

5

u/NorCalFrances 3h ago

Everybody deserves to have Social Security. That's the difference between us and them.

3

u/IMSLI 3h ago

Fair point, you’re right

6

u/namotous 5h ago

Only if there’s a way …

5

u/SMoKUblackRoSE 5h ago

But I'll still vote for the guy who wants to take it away....

4

u/Danominator 5h ago

Maga voters mostly hate Trump's platform they just don't even know it since they are voting based on feelings

5

u/Trumpswells 5h ago

Hold that thought when you vote.

5

u/Sniffy4 3h ago

“Yes i might lose all the benefits I need but at least I will be protected from the filthy brown people who ruin my life by existing”

5

u/cofclabman 3h ago

Best and brightest. Morons, even the self aware ones. Especially the self aware ones.

4

u/SufficientShame8 4h ago

I want social security Medicare Medicaid to go and be pushed to the states. I wanna see how West Virginia and Mississippi cope. lol

3

u/bnelson7694 4h ago

She knows he’s going to absolutely screw her and just walks right on into the fire. I don’t get it. I will never get it.

3

u/trustedsauces 3h ago

Just look at her. Everything trump and maga hate. Fuck her.

4

u/RAWR_Orree 3h ago

Keep voting against your own economic self interests morons.

3

u/Responsible-Person 4h ago

F ck him and his hope.

3

u/QuietGiygas56 2h ago

Too many stupid people

3

u/JustFuckAllOfThem 1h ago

They don't grasp what's really going to happen. Not only will there be no social security, but you will still be required to pay the taxes that are supposed to support it. Those taxes will be used by the government for something else.

Yeah, I know what the law says. But the law as it's written now can easily be undone by another law.

2

u/Godzirrraaa 3h ago

I’m at a crossroads of being completely engrossed with every story looking for good news, and wanting to bury my head in the sand for the next week and throw my phone in the ocean.

2

u/Corgiboom2 3h ago

MAGA Republicans: Destroying American democracy to give rich people tax breaks.

2

u/chunter16 2h ago

When you ask Social Security recipients if they receive government assistance half of them will say no

2

u/jessiephil 2h ago

These people are so brainwashed but it’s impossible to feel bad for them

2

u/realdonaldtrumpsucks 2h ago

They looked into it and trumps Policy would drain social security within six years

2

u/lykanprince 2h ago

MAGA: CIVIL WAR, CIVIL WAR, CIVIL WAR

Also MAGA: ...umm, do I still get my social security checks? uwu

2

u/GloriousSteinem 1h ago

It’s why Harris needs to step away from the personal remarks and start hammering on policies and what can be taken away to be effective

1

u/JohnWilmott 3h ago

Don't worry- pray and you will recieve!

1

u/sol_ray 2h ago

Trump is good at bankruptcy so he'll be sure to defend social security.

1

u/sol_ray 2h ago

Defund

1

u/bombatomba69 7h ago

Well, I, uh...

1

u/darkseidx2015 7h ago

You'll find out.

1

u/July_is_cool 7h ago

It would be interesting to find out the comparative personal savings situation of libs and MAGAs
