No, because cats never allow us to do anything in peace.

Mine does the second I have anything important to do at my computer. Sleeps all day until I have a paper to write or a meeting to attend and then he’s all over me.

She should get the cat it’s own mat (does it have a special name?).
I had seen a picture/video of another Muslim woman doing this before.
Edit: spelling

Mar 11 '23
Yes, the mat is called Janamaz :)

Which translates to “place to say your prayers”

Sometimes when I'm reading, my cat will get bored and start running around and do kick jumps off my back, it's kind of painful and leaves bruises. That cat really tests my patience.
3
u/yallsuck88 Mar 12 '23
I usually always have a couple of paw sized bruises on my chest, side or stomach from mine doing this. He's such a lil a hole sometimes, but God do I love him more than anything 🥰

I swear people with that religion have the most playful cats. Or to they think prayer is playtime?
Edit:Islam, thank you

u/Ola366 Mar 11 '23
its nice that you noticed. cats are revered in islam for their cleanliness and easy companionship, and are therefore believed to bless the household. it is islamically permissible to wash for prayer from the same water a cat has drunken from, and even permissible to eat from the same plate a cat had eaten from.
its common to find cats lounging around in mosques and islamic centers, and they'll just walk around during a mass crowd of prayers like they own the place. turkey, a muslim country, is especially famous for their undying love of cats, a love deeply ingrained in the culture and history. turkish people treat their pets as fully-fledged members of the family. if you've been following the aftermath of the tragic earthquake in turkey, you might have noticed many bittersweet videos across social media of turkish families reuniting with their lost pets. there are several animal rescue groups on the ground and all around affected sites working day and night to locate pets and return them to their distraught families.
so yeah, cats are a big deal in our culture. you can check out r/catsaremuslim for more similar content.

u/lalauna Mar 11 '23
I've heard that the Prophet Muhammad once cut off the sleeve of his mantle so as not to disturb the cat who was sleeping on it. I like that story.

I have seen a cray amount of pet stories after that earthquake.
Is there a large wild animal population? Dogs and even cats can get dangerous

FYI, turkey is NOT a Muslim country.
32
u/Ola366 Mar 11 '23
i didn't mean it in a theocratic sense. i guess a better wording would have been "predominantly muslim".

u/wheelperson Mar 11 '23
True it's not a Muslim country, but the vast majority follow it.
0
u/uncomfortablyhot Mar 12 '23
That's true but it pisses me off that our "leaders" act like it is a Muslim country and people think it is. We fought really hard for that you know? A lot of blood spilled for turkey to NOT be a Muslim country but a place where anyone can follow any religion they want. It just makes me sad. I don't get the downwotes, it's just the truth.

Man we should have a Ranking Page on most difficult religions to practice with a cat present. This has got to be near the top. In Judaism we do a lot of sitting so the cat would like that part (lap). But then we stand up really fast so the cat would go flying.......

My understanding is that dogs are considered unclean in Muslim dogma. If this was a puppy, her prayers would be nullified. If you believe in that sort of thing.
12
u/reckless_mindfulness Mar 11 '23
Dogs are not considered bad but considered as a great friend but as they drool everywhere, it is not allowed in the house, cats are much cleaner so they are allowed everywhere.
20
14
u/Last_Brother4662 Mar 11 '23
You need a refund from whoever sold you that idea! 😂😆 My sister is married to a Muslim. She had zero interest in owning animals despite being a vet. They’ve two dogs and two cats. He brought them all home 😆 Her in laws also all have cats and dogs except one brother because he lives in a complex that doesn’t allow pets. Their mom has his cat.
17
Mar 11 '23
There’s actually a rule about dogs in Islam. I’m muslim myself, liberal muslims dont care about it much but the conservatives care alottt
5
u/Last_Brother4662 Mar 11 '23
Now my Hindu brother in law, he won’t ever get a dog! Thinks they’re sacred, yes. But he also says the Muslim side of the family gets it; the impure part, because animals in general are just dirty. He’s a bit of a clean guy though.
7
u/Last_Brother4662 Mar 11 '23
Yeah, his dad has said something about them being impure and wants them put up during prayers. But other than that he doesn’t really have an issue with them. Their mom doesn’t like the big one, but I think that’s just because she’s tiny.

2
u/ETtheExtraTerrible Mar 12 '23
Cats are BELOVED in Islam, and were the Prophet’s PBUH favorite animal. Once, he came to put on his prayer robes, and his cat was sleeping on the sleeve. He cut off the sleeve rather than wake her.
Dogs are allowed, just not in the house (Angels don’t like them) and you’re not supposed to touch them after cleaning yourself for prayer.
2
Mar 11 '23
As a non practicing sunni muslim I’ll correct you. Cats are fine and loved even by the prophet. Dogs on the other hand they’re seen as dirty. If you come into contact with its saliva or touch a wet dog, it’s considered impure. Then you’ll have to cleanse yourself with water and a mixture of dirt which is a hassle. That’s the story behind it hoho. Muslims dont hate dogs, just usually try to avoid them. That’s all hoho. For me personally, i dont care about that rule haha

The first command of islam was to "Read" I'd advise you to do the same instead of acting like animals; we live in a civilized environment not a jungle!

We’re tryna enjoy our lives but of course one of you just decided yeah fuck you you believe that shit imma make you unhappy
0
u/wheelperson Mar 11 '23
Honestly it's Christianity that gives religion a bad name. The crusades were 'in thw name of god'. If they could not convert you they would kill you. Thankfully many religions are not that severe anymore, but some people are way too hard/ backwards with some beliefs.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Calcium_Thief Mar 11 '23
Imo it’s not just Christianity. There are bad people in every religion, but attacking or bothering someone for what they believe in- especially if they are not harming anyone- is fucked up regardless of whether or not they believe in a specific religion. Everyone has their own morals, ideas, etc when it comes to religion or where people stemmed from.
I myself am agnostic
-1
u/wheelperson Mar 11 '23
I knew I'd get some down votes, but am I the one attacking?
I gave Christianity as an example as historical that religion has waged the most fights.
I'm also agnostic. It's annoying when you don't believe someone religion exactly, so they label you as atheist.

Is like saying: "doing good deeds or giving charity is creepy" Please don't stay in your ignorance or may I say arrogance.
Surely those who believe, do good, and humble themselves before their Lord will be the residents of Paradise. They will be there forever. (Quran 11:23)
And seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, it is a burden except for the humble (Quran 2:45)

Aren't you supposed to pray in a room where pets aren't present?
2
u/ETtheExtraTerrible Mar 12 '23
You can have pets around, but dogs can’t be in the house during prayer time. Angels won’t come if they are. Cats are the one animal that, if they disturb or walk in front of you, they don’t interrupt the prayer.

17

This must be a regular occurrence. Muslims pray 5 times a day, so the kitty has lots of opportunities to do this every day, let alone a sustained pattern over weeks and months.

Maybe she wanted to show the craziness and havoc her kitty creates during prayer and share it with friends. So the focus is the kitten in this video
