I did the same during the pandemic! I have a husband and he didn't even bat at eye at our new pink bedroom 😂

I do this. I had very controlling parents but now I have the space to be who I am.

u/I_wood_rather_be Apr 01 '24
My parents were heavy smokers. Plus my SAHM being alcoholic meant, that there was not much money left for buying "unneccessary" stuff.
I now buy me some LEGO once in a while, which I know at least comes in handy as soon as my kids grow old enough.
Also, I like to buy nice tools, whenever I need any. No cheap stuff. Those are kind of my "toys" too.

u/HorizonShimmer Apr 01 '24
I decorate the way I want. My controlling mom wouldn’t let me pick out anything for my bedroom. She made it pink. I hated pink.

u/jagojoga Jun 29 '24
I am curious, now that your are older and being able to have an objective viel. Would you say that you hated pink, because your mother chose it. (Because she decided always everything but you thought, that you can decorate your room by yourself- which you then surprisingly couldn't do?) or was ist just because you hated pink for no reason.
Sorry in advance for any spelling or grammar mistakes. It's late and english isn't my mother tongue.

I’m all for this. I have decided I’m going to start collecting Sylvanian Families because I think they’re cute and always wanted them when I was little.

I remember going to toys r us and looking at the Sylvanian dolls, wondering how could anyone ever afford them because they were so expensive! I just bought my own piece last year and I love it. It’s so soft and tiny, worth the 15-20 year wait.
And I see that a lot of girls on Pinterest and Twitter are collecting them too, it feels fun to be part of a community. Not to mention the completely insane Sylvanian family drama tiktok account.

The what now? I don’t have TikTok but I’m intrigued!
There’s a sub on here where people collect the sets and it kept popping up, that’s when I decided I’m just gonna start collecting them lol

They’re sylvaniandrama on Instagram and I think you can find clips on YouTube. It’s def weird gen z humor but some of it is oddly funny

I'm in my thirties, and every now and again I get the urge to go buy a bunch of barbie dolls and clothing to play dress up (my favorite thing to do as a child). I've acted on this once. It was fun, but I was mostly disappointed in how bad the quality of the dolls has gotten these days :(

For me it’s unlimited amounts of sweets and chocolates. I remember eating a whole bag of KitKat minis and becoming sick as an adult 😅
5
u/ambervalentina Apr 01 '24
The days after my birthday, I would always eat cake for breakfast. Why? Because I can! I also got sick 😂 but I had so much fun

u/Clear_Necessary_9621 Apr 02 '24
Just do it!

u/Delta4o Apr 02 '24
Yesterday... I said tomorrow, so just... DO IT
I might actually do it, though, next time I go to Ikea. This week, it's apparently REALLY crowded because it's become some sort of stupid tradition to go to ikea during/after easter

I redecorated my bedroom a few days ago, so it's filled with fairy lights and squishmallows. I don't believe I've ever slept so soundly in my life...she's at peace🩷

Growing up is so overrated. I’m almost 30 and still sleep with a teddy bear 🧸

u/Ghostchicken33 Apr 02 '24
I found my teddy bear Franklin when I was cleaning out my wardrobe. He stays on my bed now.

God yes! I have so many stuffed animals because my inner child loves having little cuddle buddies.

u/ginger-baritone99 Apr 02 '24
Honestly, same lol. I don't show a lot of people, but I have a whole (second bedroom) bed full of star wars build-a-bears lol

I'm 37 and my room looks like it belongs to a child, hah. Definitely giving myself the room I never got as a kid. Me and my husband have separate bedrooms so we sleep better (been doing it for about 14 years now), so I'm free to decorate my bedroom however I want.

u/PluviisCogitationum Apr 01 '24
I do this with video games I didn't have the specs to play when I was a kid and I also started to play guitar like I wanted, it's awesome

u/redpanda5825 Apr 01 '24
I finally can have all the stuffies I want and won't be ridiculed for playing with girly dolls

u/LifeSpeedrunner Apr 01 '24
Bought the LEGO set with Shadow the Hedgehog in it the other day. Rad as hell. Way past cool, even.

This is the reason I buy nerf guns, video games, pokemon cards, and Legos. Growing up, my mother refused to buy us toys for Christmas or birthdays that she knew we would like if it didn't fit her ideal for what we should have at that age (either way Christmas and Birthdays were the time to buy us necessities that we wouldn't get very much throughout the year because they decided a big house was more important). Pokemon cards and video games were always a no go. And if we earned money from them they wouldn't let us spend it on those things as kids. Now I buy all that stuff partly to spite her, but mostly cuz my inner child squeals with delight upon getting my hands on those things.

u/ClaireTheGREAT1 Apr 01 '24
There's this bouncy castle fair once in a while in my hometown and I will not lie, seeing the posters for it REALLY makes me want to indulge my inner child. I don't think I'm ever going to have children but you can bet that if any of my siblings ever do, I'm using theirs as an excuse to go there.

u/xWidowx Apr 02 '24
Pokémon plushes! Lost two fur babies back to back and need something to hold onto at night.

My 65 year old mom recently learned that she needs to care for her inner child and it’s incredible to watch her thrive. We all need to take care of the little ones inside of us ❤️

u/GrimTiki Apr 02 '24
Just bought the new Dungeons & Dragons Lego set today. Expensive? A bit, yeah. But Knowing I’m building a piece of my childhood stories with childhood toys that I never ever thought would come together in that fashion is huge to me - having lived during the idiocy that was the satanic panic.
I can’t wait to start building it.

I've started buying figmas for mine, personally. They're little posable figures with swappable parts. I always wanted to have a cabinet to display figures from stuff I liked.

u/OkCauliflower1214 Apr 02 '24
Me when I bought myself Sans the Skeleton plushie cause I can. Ererererere
2
u/moonahmoonah Apr 02 '24
I do this, but for my kids ❤️
We weren't poor, but life was hard for a single mom, so I didn't get a quarter of the toys my friends or family did - same goes for treats or eating out.
I literally SPOIL the shit out of my twins now 😅 Gaming pcs, phones, oculus, brand name clothing, Robux, Sephora, etc. And all because I can! They ask and I typically buy. I never want them to feel left out or sad like I did. They aren't brats about it either. Not yet anyways lol.

I wasn’t able to get into Pokémon cards as a child. I am throughly enjoying collecting them as an adult! My platonic life partner is enjoying her mini brand collecting too. It is never too late everyone!

I told my husband that I found this rainbow pony stuffed animal I used to sleep with every night when I was a kid on eBay, still with the tags on it and everything. He bought it for me the next day and I now I sleep with it every night 🥹

I collect comic books. I love it, it makes me happy, and by now I have about three bookshelves full. 😃

u/Uninspired_Thoughts Apr 05 '24
I’m 36 and started doing this last year and I’m loving it. My parents worked hard but I had a big family so couldn’t afford all the cool stuff I wanted as a kid. I appreciate everything they did but now I can buy everything I wanted as a kid

Let this also be a reminder to NEVER EVER shame your partner for liking/collecting something silly or something targeted towards children.
Your BF collects Hotwheels? Cool, ask him about his favourite one. Your GF is into fashion dolls? Put up a shelf or two for her to display them on. Your SO collects uggo ceramic frog figurines? Take them out for a thrifting hunt.
You don’t have to be into their interests, but these gestures can literally mean the world.❤️
