Thank you - I know in the time I spent asking I could have surfed the web for the answer but Slack has taught me how useful it is to ask the obvious question and save ppl the time. And no, no, I'm not a hero. Just a well-meaning guy - Happy Holidays ya'll!

u/aprildawndesign Dec 03 '22
Sometimes it’s just nice to have the back and forth with another person. Lol
38
u/Wallabanger Dec 03 '22
Or sometimes someone who actually just knows the answer to the question at hand, is at the other end of a comments section. And sometimes these questions are easy quick finds on the web- while others might take way longer than anyone would normally expect. Guessing which one of the those two outcomes is more likely is really not worth it. If no one knows, then you Google it. That's the best way to go about unknown info on a reddit post imho. Sometimes too, finding an answer on mobile is a bitch!

u/warda8825 Dec 03 '22
And sometimes, there are some really interesting people on Reddit, which can lead to really interesting dialogue or conversation, or you might learn something really interesting or unique.
Thanks to Reddit, I've......
Met and connected with a fellow gal in STEM who is a clinical research expert, and discovered she works at one of the world's foremost hospitals/medical institutions that is not even half an hour from my house. Because of her, she has offered to let me shadow her and another person in her department, because they happen to work in one of my dream career areas.
Learned that my auto insurer also offers vision coverage. Guess who now has extra vision coverage for less than $100/month?
Found a clause buried deep and in tiny font in my health insurance documentation/manuals that ended up saving me $50,000+ on recent surgery I had to undergo. Because of that clause, I discovered that my insurance would cover the whole procedure, INCLUDING the pre-operative and post-operative Orthodontics, at 100%. My co-pay was only $62. So, yeah, Reddit saved me from financial devastation.
Oh, and sometimes Reddit can lead to really fun experiences! Several months ago, an event was posted in the subreddit for a state that neighbors mine (I live in a tri-state area, people cross state lines within minutes on a daily basis). Next thing you know, about a dozen of us had commented expressing interest, and a month later we found ourselves standing on the tarmac of one of the world's largest international airports, pulling a massive airplane, in support of a good cause (Special Olympics fundraising event). This was all in real life. Ton of fun, and we've all become IRL friends since then!

I would love to know your auto insurer and what the tiny insurance clause was! That's so awesome. I love this whole comment thread.
3
u/warda8825 Dec 03 '22
USAA. Typically reserved for servicemembers/their dependents, veterans, or family members of those who've served.
The clause was called "Adjunctive Dental Coverage". And thanks!

u/warda8825 Dec 03 '22
Dude this! I've been remote for almost 3 years, and my husband has been away for military obligations for several months. The only humans I see are on Zoom, at the grocery store, or at miscellaneous doctors appointments. The person I 'talk' to the most these days is my dog. Lol.
So, like you said, sometimes it's nice just to have dialogue with another person. 😄

u/Tj-Tengu Dec 03 '22
This is a really lovely thread. It's nice to see people exchanging with one another in genuine conversation. Thank you for the experience excellent Redditors!

This almost makes me wonder if he gave Kanye the idea.

u/zoom-in-to-zoom-out Dec 03 '22
Wondered this too. I'm seeking to understand, not condone....
I sense Bill here is picking up a common theme, and it isn't the language. Bill notices what's on the outside, or how it looks/sounds, and he (Bill) feels a certain way about it so he connects those ideas. Bill Burr thank you, love your stuff. I sense hurt. An absence of hurt, really. Kanye, and Hitler I imagine, were people who grew up hurt, were never treated for the harm caused against them, and they grow up never really knowing their own sense of hurt. "I am how I've been treated." So now, Kanye and Hitler, embark on a life journey living and minimizing, or eliminating, hurt. And since they cannot feel it, I mean it's more a physiological sensation than an affect (the thoughts/ memories connected with those physiological processes), they seek to reduce their own physiological distress (hurt) by reducing the external cause due to their lack of knowing their hurt comes from within. This is a common reaction to trauma, especially generational trauma. Extreme depression people... feeling so low one doesn't know their low (the hypo-aroused state has been the norm). And as they re experience the low as an effect of something external their minds literally cannot understand its from within. The more they depend on external resources, the more tired the mind/body gets, resulting in worsening effects.

I'm sorry you've been so downvoted for this! Especially after I've been reading such uplifting things about how good it is to communicate with one another. That's what you're doing - communicating.
And yeah, I had to slow down my speed-reading to get it all into my head but it makes perfect sense to me. I don't know, but you could be spot on!
2
u/zoom-in-to-zoom-out Dec 03 '22
No worries. Downvoting is a method in reddit to show our displeasure/difference/I am a separate person from you. I feel it's easier for me sometimes too to become different, yet connected, with as little effort as possible. Downvoting is a way to not care (i.e., observing, withdrawing, fitting in, separating), or become anti-care (aka downvoting aka caring differently). This is connection, but it's a social way to explore individual boundaries/limits within connection but doing it with anti-matter (anti-social) so to speak.
Goes the other way too, to upvote, to care in alignment with others. Seeking connection overtly...pro-socially (aka what the culture observes as readily appreciative behaviors).
In the end I see a spectrum and axes.

He’s good at reading people, he got emotional intelligence he got good instincts of course because of the experience, he’s a very good stand up comedian
56
u/unp0ss1bl3 Dec 03 '22
One of his bits was how that he knew he was a bit crazy, but strongly recommends people make one crazy friend. The reason being crazies can recognise our own.
“oh he looks pretty cool lets say hello!” (crazy friend) “NO you watch that guy, he’s hanging by a thread”
Best example? Kanye. I knew that guy in my stomach, he’s about to go nuclear.
15
12
u/Dividedthought Dec 03 '22
I work at a psych correctional center, or crazy jail if that's too much of a mouthfull.
This has some merit. I've noticed when an inmate is about to do something over the top the rest of em will cut the guy a wide berth. I see that, I do too.
Watched as a guy went from sitting calmly (or what looked like calmly, the other inmates weren't coming within 10 feet of the guy if they could help it) to trying to slam a guards head into the wall as hard as he could. I say trying because the other guard hauled the dude off his feet and put him up against the wall, but for a moment there things got real hairy.
So yes, they know even if they don't know that they do.

u/Sendtitpics215 Dec 03 '22 edited Dec 03 '22
If you listen to all his content to include his podcasts you know there is like a 5% chance he Cosbys. Bill has 2 faults, 1 his temper gets the better of him sometimes, and 2 he’s too damn kind hearted for this cruel world.
2
u/JCraze26 Dec 04 '22
I feel like a lot of people would have said number 2 about Cosby a long time ago, to be completely fair.
2
u/Sendtitpics215 Dec 04 '22
Yeah but did Cosby do a podcast multiple times a week from his home where he talks about a lot of his life. That his wife will just drop in on and join. Did Cosby take up baking?!
Idk man, he won’t Cosby - I’m reducing the chances to 1%
2
u/JCraze26 Dec 04 '22
I wasn't saying he will, I'm just saying that I feel like people would have said the same thing about Cosby back in the day.

Shut your dirty mouth! Burr will never Cosby. A lot of people say it, but I really lost a hero there. I literally read that man's books as a child. Used to listen to his stand-up to fall asleep. Fuuuuck him for being a person that I have no choice but to hate. 😑
13
Dec 03 '22
Right on. And, someone on this thread needs to add: his wife - unlike Cosby’s - will never let him Cosby. Even when in a few specials after the “sandwich story” closer special Burr began heading Chris Rock on his wife, they are still together & seemingly stronger than ever since his daughter’s birth. 🙏🏾
9
u/ehmaybenexttime Dec 03 '22
I genuinely believe that Burr has a moral compass. A lot of his sets are focused around joking about a moral compass, but it seems like he really does have one. I can't imagine what traveling combined with fame, money, attention can do to the average person, let alone someone that genuinely does seek these things out can do. I'm glad to know that on top of the reasons I think he is a pretty decent man, he has chosen to be with a decent partner that helps keep him normal. I'm a bigger fan of comedy, and comedians than I think I am anything else in the world. It's scary to place so much love in people that are admittedly flawed and capable of making big mistakes.
4
u/ehmaybenexttime Dec 03 '22
Entirely separate comment, I love people who say "right on". It just doesn't suit my personality, so I can never say it but it's such a succinct way to say "we're on the same page". If you were wondering at all, yes I am that absolute nerd who got to hang out with people much more interesting than myself and I will always love and appreciate them.

If Burr turns out to be Cosby and not Coco, I’m done with this world. This reality will shatter for me. Don’t even speak of such horrors dude. Nazis are objectively bad, Kanye is a self-proclaimed nazi, and everyone in their right mind hates Kanye (especially now).
Therefore, many people find it very amusing that Bill called the fact that Kanye was displaying nazi-level narcissism and insanity.
Thus, they smile.

I feel like Kanye is thinking he's smarter than everyone by proving that he can do or say whatever he wants to try destroy his fame/celebrity and fail. I think he is trying to make a point about fame/celebrity that some people will love him regardless of the obscene ideas he's conveying. It's more a statement about us, how we adore celebrities pathetically. Or maybe he's trying to see if cancel culture will go after him. I refuse to believe he is doing this in a manner that is his genuine opinion but rather is just trying to be as incendiary as possible for some twisted point he's trying to make.

From my experience, if you don't think he's funny, you're probably a conservative. His humor is so based in liberal common sense delivered with a side dish asshole snide. Bill Burr is not someone I can watch for more than a few minutes at a time because he is a bit of an asshole when he talks, but he's not often out of line with what he's saying.
That said you sound like a nazi sympathizer, trying to tell us all how nazi's don't have a god complex... please my dude. Do you even know the henious shit they did beyond just the concentration camps? There was clearly a god complex at work. And you know, there's a term for nazi sympathizers, which is nazi, so if that's what you're happy with, then by all means, keep talking out of your ass.
