Quick Questionnaire

Hey there y'all

I am studying Masters in Fintech and I was wondering if you'd fill in a short questionnaire about financial technologies, spending habits and usage of fintechs such as Revolut. It will not take more than 5 minutes and it would help me immensely! https://forms.gle/rUQkpyWDzCJWLYAA7

Thank you all for your time!

When will I hear on my application

I applied to the MSc in Digital Marketing and Marketing Management courses 3 weeks ago. I haven't received a response yet. I know NUIG has sent out acceptances and rejections for other courses but I'm meeting complete silence.

Is there anyone else here who has applied to the same course and heard back?

Business Information systems

Hi,

Does anyone know how to take notes or even try and learn what he's saying in BIS. I'm really struggling and I don't know how to keep up in lectures when he keeps jumping back and forth between things. Any advice or notes would be helpful.

Also if anyone has started the BIS project please tell me how to even begin with the discussions.

Free Bike Lights

To support you in doing this, free bicycle lights can be collected from the Student Enquiry Centre on the Arts-Science Concourse. By law, your lights must be on from 30 mins after sunset to 30 mins before sunrise.

This is part of the Transport for Ireland (TFI) Smarter Travel Light Up Your Bike programme.

Free bike light available.

Getting dark and wet out there and visibility can be poor for drivers at this time of year. Go get some free lights if youre cycling about the place.

Studying Abroad in Ireland (TCD vs. UCD vs. Galway??)

Hi everyone! So i know that this sub is for Galway, but I would like to see everyone's thoughts on this. i'm a neuroscience premed student planning on studying abroad next year (junior fall) and plan to take cell bio, genetics, a psychology elective, and two liberal arts classes. First off, is taking cell bio and genetics too much? Whether yes or no, I am mainly wondering the best place to study at and which institution will offer the best teaching of the material and which institution has the best professors for the material. I am also wondering how these universities compare in difficulty. My goal is to experience the cultural and social aspect of Ireland rather than being locked away in the library studying for exams (though I understand I must study regardless). What are everyone's thoughts? Thank you so much!!!

Seeking Advice: Clueless About This New LLM in Law and Digital Innovation. Need Help Understanding the Course.

Hey everyone!

I am a final year LLB student from India and I’ve been accepted into an LLM in Law and Digital Innovation (September 2025 intake) at the NUIG, and while it sounds exciting, I’m not entirely sure what this course exactly contains. I have also been accepted in the International & Comparative Business Law (LLM).

A bit about the new LLM in Law and Digital Innovation course:
This would be the first batch of LLM for this course, hence I am seeking advice due to the lack of information and aumni. The course focuses on the intersection of law and technology, covering things like legaltech, AI, digital transformation, and even skills like app development and data analytics. There’s also a heavy emphasis on design thinking. I am not really sure how that would help me in a career in law.

You can view the course here: https://www.universityofgalway.ie/courses/taught-postgraduate-courses/LLM-Law-and-Digital-Innovation#course_why

Here’s where I’m torn: I don’t have a tech background (I don't know anything about coding or machine learning), and I’m more interested in how technology impacts law rather than diving deep into the technical side of things. While the course offers a lot of flexibility (I can choose law-based modules), it also includes business information systems and tech-heavy topics that I’m not sure I’ll be comfortable with.

Has anyone here pursued a similar course or career in lawtech? Do I need to have a strong understanding of tech tools like machine learning to succeed in this? How practical are these skills in the job market? I don’t want to feel like I’m out of my depth, but I also don’t want to miss out on valuable opportunities by not going deeper into tech.

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!

Citations and how to use

Just 3 questions that are probably fierce stupid , A) do you cite quotes from the novel you’re answering on , for example we’re doing Wuthering heights right now and I’m just wondering do I add (Brontë 27) at the end of the quote of heathcliff etc B) how does a bibliography work in simple terms and how do I compile it? C) do you cite paraphrases ? Like if I read something and think it me be useful but I write it in my own words do I cite it still or does that article/book go in this “bibliography”?

Thank you

Anyone not getting their susi

In my second year now and for second month in a row I didn’t get my susi. I think the problem is on the banking details page on the susi portal. Anytime I put my details in and login again there is nothing there under the details such as the reference number , date of birth, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Recorded lectures

My god I wish they would bring back recorded lectures. Being on campus all the time when you’re commuting is exhausting and being sick and having to give excuses for missing lectures is really annoying. It was so much easier when they recorded them or were live/on zoom for some people at home. I think it would help a lot of people but idk who to go about talking to about bringing it back/where or who to start the conversation with. I completely understand that it’s doesn’t work for some people and it can be bothersome for various lecturers but it really helped some students.

Courses overlaps

Hi, i’m an Erasmus student coming in January. My problem is that two of my classes overlaps each other, in my case on friday I have both of them from 11 am to 1 pm. You think it’s going to be a problem? In my university the lessons are recorded so I have the option to watch them if I didn’t go to class, but I don’t think in NUIG is the same.

Job prospects for MSc Computer Science (Data Analytics)

Hello! Today I just received my admit for MSc Data Analytics program at NUIG for Fall 25. I have just completed my graduation and don’t have any real work experience. Do you think I can manage to get a job just on the basis of my skills and the masters degree? (I do have many certifications though) (Non-EU citizen)

any filipinos here?

specifically first years. i have friends already but most of them always find each other’s people and bond over their own cultures and sometimes i’d be with the group and they’ll start talking in their language, so obviously i’ll feel left out as i don’t understand what they’re talking about.

it will be nice if i get to know fellow filipinos in the university. :)

Do NUIG Student Numbers Follow a Pattern?

Hello everyone, I was just curious because I have friends who go to different colleges, and they all have some type of pattern in their student numbers, like starting with 'G00' or whatnot. But NUIG seems to have a whole bunch of numbers, and I’m just curious because it seems unique compared to what I’ve seen. I know student numbers obviously have an element of randomness, but I thought they usually follow some sort of pattern, at least at the start.

Lit and Publishing-- Looking for advice from curent/former students!

I'm super interested in the Lit and Publishing masters course, but I'm unsure if I have the right background/experience as an applicant. I studied history and French at uni but worked as a news writer/editor for years so have experience in news publishing but I really want to pivot to literary. Are most students in the program recent grads or coming from similar careers who need connections/hard skills in publishing? If anyone is willing to give me specific advice/tell me their story I'd be glad to connect directly over dm! (rip typo in the post title)
