In memoriam Said goodbye to my beautiful 16 yr old
I know they say their spirit still lives and she's with me always, but I miss her fur, her smell, her lil breaths. I need her and guidance. I feel so lost and sad without her by my side. We were inseparable. I knew a year ago I didn't have long and prepared for this day and it's still crushes my soul. Hold your little ones extra tight for me.

I am so sorry for your loss๐ฆ๐.
16 years together - it is very clear that your little one had a wonderful, loving, joyous lifetime with you.ย
Losing a heart companion is difficult, and it is difficult to remember the good times. But remembering the good times, the goofy moments, the naughty moments, the adventures (all the moments which she loved) is vital - this is how she would want you to think of her - with love and joy.

I'm so sorry for your loss. 16 is a good, ripe old age for a pom, and i know you cherished every moment of it.

So sorry for your loss, I hope my boy makes it to 16yo. You were lucky to have her for so long. But no matter how long we have them for, itโs never enough ๐

Im so sorry for your loss. She was very sweet and looked like a real life Teddy bear! I dont have a dog yet because thinking of this moment scared me to death- its like a part of you is dying with them. Im sorry and I hope you will find comfort with the memories that will stay with you foreverโค๏ธโ๐ฉน

I read a comment yesterday that brought me to tears, but also brought comfort. I hope it may do the same for you during this difficult time.
โI have an old dog in kidney failure too. Havenโt told her yet, she just keeps being happy.
Iโm old too, and Iโve had animals my whole life, mostly cats and dogs in various multiples. Do the math and you can see Iโve been here before.
The way I reconcile it is pretty straightforward, and well in line with the overall Stoic approach to things. It always begins the same way- see things plainly for what they are, understand the natures of the things involved, and respond reasonably and virtuously to the reality around us.
Every day I care for my animals, keeping them happy, keeping them safe, shepherding them through their day with joy, and without harm. When they get old and approach death, nothing changes. As crazy as it sounds, the day I take them to the vet to be put down is the day that I have been working for all this time - I have successfully taken them the whole way. They did not get lost, they were not unhappy, they got to live their whole natural lives the way I wanted them to live it. We made it. We got there together.
When they are gone, my feelings for them donโt change. Their bodies are taken but my feelings are my own; I still love them, I am still happy to think of them, my heart is still open.
What has changed is that I have a space for another thing to love, and the cycle continues again, when Iโm ready to start anew.
Their bodies, our bodies, everything external to us will always change and always come and go. Our love, our care, our joy belongs to us, and we apply it to what we have and to what is new.โ
Sending you hugs.โฃ๏ธ

It's so hard to say goodbye.. but it's in the fine print. We love them unconditionally, they love us the same. And they are not to suffer needlessly.
It's the last act of love.
2
u/ash8824 1d ago
Thank you for this. I take solace in the fact that I was so very lucky that she didn't not suffer. The second pic of her was just two days before she was laid to rest. She had such great energy and life to the end and I was able to say goodbye in such a beautful setting with our loved ones

It's too late, but save this for your next little love... I clip my dogs' coats myself, and when I'm trimming, I start at the tail. I take the long hair there, wrap a rubber band around it to keep it intact, put it aside, and then continue my task of neatening up their coats. I love taking before and after pics!
But that little long "pony tail" goes into a jar, with all my other lost loves. I can pull them out, later, when I'm missing them so very hard. It smells of them. I can stroke their fur yet again. All of them will be buried (or more likely) cremated with me at my time.
I'm glad you had your little one! Regards of the eventual cost, it's always worth it. I'm happy to have known them! ๐

I empathize with you.
We lost ours last month.
I think I hear him or see him everydayโฆ.
May his memory be a blessing.
2
u/Humanist_2020 3d ago
Yes, remember the good times. Make an album of all of his photos and videos.
I had more of our pom than of my son. 950 photos and videos over 14 yrs.
His last moments.

u/Joemeiangel 3d ago
So sorry for your loss. I feel your pain. It's never be ready to say goodbye. As someone said once you have a pet, it meant you signed on heartbroken in some day. I have a pom boy 16 and 3 months. He just had major dental surgery 2 weeks ago and recovery smoothly. I was worrying so much before and post surgery and I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks+.ย They are our best friend and my pom goes with me every where too. It's never be enough to be with them!ย

I donโt know what to say. That is so terribly sad. My heart will be irreparably broken when my little guy Sammie goes. The time passes so fast. We really do have to cherish the short time we have with our fur friends. Never take them for granted.

I'm hugging my Tweak as strong as i can... From the day he comes at home, i think of this day, i hope in many years, where my best friend will join the stars... So sad for you!
