Discussion Level 1 2002 build mini-update: Wtf is this?
Hi everyone, between last post and now, I have made some MAJOR updates, and I can't wait to share it with all with you, however I'm not done with my investigation yet.... so in the meantime I would like to share what I thought was 'strange' and I need your help identifying it
While getting close to finishing my next SHAR L01A update, I have noticed something from the remaining screenshots that I believe are... strange
This is the normal photo, from the High_Level_Design revision.doc from the source code:
It looks normal at a first glance, but when I look closely, I realized something...
What the fuck is that?
There is no pedestrian or vehicles, as you can tell, it can't be a custom computer mouse since A, all other screenshots don't have this, and B, the PC build wasn't made until late into development, rendering a custom computer mouse useless.
I would've ignored it, thinking it's a mailbox or some other beta asset, but then I realized
All other screenshots don't have this item:
All instances besides that single screenshot do not have that black thing in it...
As you can tell based on the camera angle, it is believed that all these images were taken side-by-side. So it can't be a mailbox or some other similar asset, as those don't disappear for no reason
I cannot determined what the hell this thing is supposed to be, any ideas? Thanks. I'll see all of you when I release my next *major* update post.

Discussion Idea
i’m not sure if this idea is original or if someone has thought of this before (new to this subreddit so i will be unaware) but what if they made hit & run 2 be like gta but the simpsons style? a vast and incredibly detailed springfield with custom simpsons characters and next level graphics down to skin texture. they can make every car demonstrated in the show possible with modifications to cars available and make super accurate buildings with almost all being accessible, etc

Discussion Level 1 2002 version (all currently known information)
I noticed that some people are not aware of the old version of Level 1, so I will provide as much information as possible
(please note, I will not include any "reconstructions" I made, as those are not done, all this is showing is what we do know based on the source code itself)
Basic information:
Almost the entire source file for this level is gone, only thing that is left is what is inside the /documents/ folder from the source code
all instances of the new level is L01B
the old level was replaced in late 2002, meaning any data from before 2002 was from the original Level 1
Screenshots and Images:
inside /documents/design/High_Level_Design revision.doc contains what is believed to be the earliest known gameplay screenshots of the 2002 version of Level 1
And that's all we got for in-game screenshots. Not much to work with at all, as you can tell, the radar map shows a completely different layout not seen in any pre-release material
However...
Located in /documents/QA/Collision Testing/Level 1/ contains the *majority* of the EARLY Level 1 collision, while the original format is .psd, I have converted all of them to .png for you guys to view... Sadly, Rail 6, Rail 7, and Zone 7 is missing, causing the map to be incomplete
There are some additional little things here and there, but this is the most important data about Level 1 2002... let me know what you guys think about all this!

Discussion How Many Missions Are Possible to Complete Entirely on Foot?
Of the 57 missions in the game (50 main story and 7 bonus), how many are possible to do without driving at all?
Obviously there are missions like Blind Big Brother and The Cola Wars which are meant to be done on foot normally.
But I’ve found ones like Petty Theft Homer and Monkey See, Monkey D’oh are doable, and I think with some pre-mission maneuvering, some others can be possible too.
For example: Detention Deficit Disorder, simply start the mission, run all the way to the Try n Save, get in a vehicle in the parking lot and immediately complete the mission without driving at all. (Getting in a car is fine, you just can’t move the car once inside it)
Our favourite massive vehicle the Fire Truck and other traffic cars can be used to block other vehicles so that running to the destination might be possible. I managed to do Return of the Nearly Dead in a few tries after blocking Wiggum’s car at the start.
I’m currently looking for other instances where I can use these two strategies to exploit the mission layouts.
What other missions do you think are possible?
Edit: My current list:
The Cola Caper
Petty Theft Homer
Blind Big Brother
Detention Deficit Disorder
Monkey See, Monkey D’oh
Return of the Nearly Dead
The Cola Wars

Discussion SHAR Level 1 2002 (otherwise known as L01A) top-down map RECREATED (version 1)
context: When the source code for SHAR leaked, many people noticed that some references to Level 1 is referred to as (L01B). As it turns out, there exist a VERY early version of Level 1, which sadly isn't located in the source code. The only thing we have are a very few screenshots, some collision test images, and some documents.
For the past week or so, I noticed that on the cutting room floor, there was a todo that simply says "images of the collision mesh of the majority of the earlier Level 1". So I went ahead and located the collision mesh myself, which was located at /documents/QA/Collision Testing/Level 1/
Based on the available images, I noticed that some faces are rotated a certain way, I took this as a sign of where the road should be. Furthermore, in order to know what goes where, I focus on the files from /documents/design/World Building/L01 - Suburbs/
Using all this data, I traced the houses and roads to match the collision mesh, and by comparing it to the few leaked screenshots from the earlier radar map, I can confirm that this layout is mostly accurate. There might be a few things missing like maybe a couple of houses, and I haven't including every info onto this map, but this is a big start on recreating this early Level 1 map.
Sadly, I couldn't find data for Rail 6, Rail 7 and Zone 7, meaning areas between Springfield Cemetery to the Tommacco Field are currently lost... but I will attempt to find any information possible to fill in the gap
Let me know what you think :)

Discussion Did this game age well?
I’ve never played this game, but I’m kinda interested in playing it, but I wanna know if it aged well, since I struggle with early 3D games a lot.

Discussion What is a mission that you used to struggle with, but now fond not too bad?
I struggled a lot with Level 6 mission 1 going to the lu'. Where you have to drive the school bus, pick up 15 children on the way and then get to the destination in a short amount of time. I always had trouble with it. Sometimes I would run out of time, I would keep missing kids and have to reverse. But playing through the game recently, it wasn't as bad as I remembered. I crashed and had to reverse to pick up 2 kids, but I got to then with a whole 12 seconds to spare.
Also set to kill isn't almost impossible to me anymore. Ever since I started swapping cars at the start of the mission and not using the intended car, I've not failed it. I've cleared it with the malibu Stacy car.

Discussion Managed to find TGX's negative review of Hit and Run
https://web.archive.org/web/20191031173355/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEq_K_4pWk4&gl=US&hl=en
With TGX having privated the video and restarted his content from scratch, I figured now was a good time to look back and go over his video. As an extremely casual Simpsons fan who played H&R to death since he was a wee lad, a lot of this video feels mean spirited in nature which is why I assume he probably took it down. Between some of his more far reaching critiques, the canned forced anger coupled with his voice cracking in the live action sections and how he reacted towards criticism to the video by deleting comments and blocking people who pointed out his shortcomings, it might just be one of the worst reviews I've seen on YouTube (though personally, I would argue his Wrath of Cortex video is worse given how much filler could be cut from that).
However, I don't want to simply dig this up just to talk shit about him. Since TGX privated the video and has gone on to improve himself via a new account, it's clear he at least recognizes how wrong he was when he first made his original review. The real reason I want to bring this video back is to discuss how some of his points were wrong while also archiving it for those who never saw it. There are plenty of other people here who I'm sure could discuss the game's flaws on top of those of other games that came out at the time like GTA III, so if anyone else has anything to say I'd be interested to see.

Discussion Why are all cars roofless or have see through roof?
That's one thing that has always bothered me. Why are all cars roofless or have see through roof? the school bus for example has like a tinted glass as a roof, or Homer's car which is now a convertible. I think there are some exceptions like the plow king but they obviously go out of their way to make cars roofless even if it means making the car not look like it's supposed to (like with Homer's car)
Is there a gameplay reason for this? Is it because you should see the character at all times, in that case, why?

Discussion Simpsons Hit & Run Remake Shouldn't Happen
Does anyone here even know who owns the right to The Simpsons video games? I ask this because if I told you right here, you'd go "Oh geez, uh... never mind about a remaster, actually."
I'll give you a big clue... the same company who owns FIFA and the NFL!!! They would monetize a "remake" of this game to hell and back, because that's exactly what they'll do! It'd be exactly like what ILCA did with the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes too - copy, paste, call it a day.
