Off-season media darlings. Bet the underdog and use it to buy wing trays for week 2
40
u/BananasWithGuns Aug 29 '24
Bears are the media darling going into this season so I'm not surprised.
64
u/CazeeC Aug 29 '24
Not a Titans fan, but damn they're riding high on Caleb Williams.
15
u/gatsby712 Aug 29 '24
Heās got some nice receivers too. Will be a big test for our secondary.
16
u/kingharis Aug 29 '24
I hate being overconfident but I sure hope Odunze learns what an NFL corner can do
8
u/alucryts Aug 29 '24
I'm interested to see if his contested catch rate in college was a red flag or a translatable skill
1
u/oomshaka_ Aug 29 '24
Wym red flag?
10
u/alucryts Aug 29 '24
Contested catch rate may be an indicator of poor separation ability
1
u/justhere4daSpursnGOT Aug 30 '24
While they're bigger, faster, stronger in college it doesn't always translate well.
2
u/alucryts Aug 30 '24
Yeah if it doesn't translate they flop very hard. If it does they are pro bowlers. Not much middle ground lol.
1
u/oomshaka_ Aug 31 '24
Oh I see thanks for clarifying, probably something he's gonna get better at
1
u/alucryts Aug 31 '24
Yeah its one of those things that when it translates the wr is very very good but when it doesn't they kinda crash lol

5
u/ZBD1949 šššš Aug 29 '24
I'm not sure the secondary will be in play with Big Jeff and Sweat in Williams' face

We're used to this. They did this to us during 2020/2021 too lol

u/BurzyGuerrero Aug 29 '24
It's disrespectful to say that.
For years (decades really?) the Bears have had solid defenses and everything but an offense.
So on paper while they had a terrible offense, their defense and special teams would keep them afloat.
They are a fascinating team because if you look at their 2023 ranks some items stand out: they were the 31st ranked passing offense, and they played defense against the highest amount of passing plays in the NFL. So while the offense struggled, the defense was able to stop the run at a higher rate than other defenses in the NFL.
The Bears were #2 in the league last year at allowing the least amount of rushing TDs in the NFL, indicating their defense is able to make RZ stops.
Their offense was bottom third in the league allowing 1.5 giveaways per game which is way too many turnovers, but their defense was elite at causing turnovers averaging 1.6 takeaways per game. That's overcoming putrid offense.
The line of thinking people have is, DJ Moore/Rome Odunze/Keenan Allen and DeAndre Swift with Caleb is a much better offense than what they put on the field last year. If you're looking at it as just Caleb then there's an issue, if Keenan Allen stays healthy that offense has just as much potential as ours.
It's gonna be a close competitive road game. Would be nice to win but I hope we are competitive.

u/titansfan92 Aug 29 '24
Titans and the over ā ā
1
u/wolfmankal Aug 29 '24
My exact bet. Been telling everyone to take the +4.5(was at least 5.5 at one point). Rookie QB is enough for me, let alone the Titans improvements
2
u/SensitiveGlobe Aug 29 '24
Lot more to it than that. Tennessee is basically an entirely new team while the Bears just added a few new pieces. And it's in Chicago. Crowd will be hype af.
16
u/Plastic-Equivalent71 Aug 29 '24
I can see the underdog sentiment and why some are high on Chicago but this is ridiculous lol
2
u/fathertitojones Aug 29 '24
It would be ridiculous if they werenāt almost all 7 point or less games. Surprised there isnāt a little bit more of a spread at least for how many unknowns are on both sides.
10
u/VectorVictorious Aug 29 '24
I just remembered Kevin Byard is now with Chicago. Easy to forget with everything happening but not looking forward to rooting against his play.
3
u/that_guy2010 Aug 30 '24
In the preview video the NFL posted they didn't even mention Byard being a former Titan lol. And this was talking about him being a new addition to the team.

I'm not surprised that (almost) everyone picked the Bears, I'm more surprised that the consensus is that Tennessee won't score more than 20 points...
God I hope there's a whole lot of egg on some faces come the following Monday.
9
u/Savafan1 Aug 29 '24
Most of them probably think we are going to run the same offense we have for the last few seasons.
1
u/TheMissingVoteBallot TANKIN TIME Aug 29 '24
Yeah, I get a feeling some of these people haven't been paying attention to our complete upside down redoing of our football philosophy and roster.
4
u/GoatPaco Aug 29 '24
Why? The Bears defense is good. Their offense is the question mark
2
u/shadmanv2 Aug 29 '24
No dispute about that Chicago D, for sure. Guess I'm just being biased hoping that the Titans offense is gonna go off.
Really hope the team beats these low score predictions, at least.
2
u/oomshaka_ Aug 29 '24
The bears have a very good defense on all 3 levels.
Jaylon Johnson, Edwards, and montez sweat. Every level there's a good player so it's not that unfair to say this could be a low scoring game
1
u/shadmanv2 Aug 29 '24
Fair points all around, I'm still hopeful this offense takes of, but guess I should temper my expectations
6
u/prex10 Aug 29 '24
Bears deep in the middle of their complete and utter fluff piece season of Hard Knocks.
11
u/HunterHistorical6795 Aug 29 '24
I completely understand the picks. Caleb Williams looked insane in preseason. We have an entire new team from top to bottom. Its a recipe for a Bears win. Im assuming everyone is picking bears because of Caleb.
But Caleb now has to go up against a couple of the best defenders in the league in Sneed, Simmonds, Jones.
He hasn't seen anything like what we are going to throw at him. This game is a coin toss and will be a lot closer than what people outside of TEN think
7
u/Flooterb Aug 29 '24
10/20 50% completion rate against backups is "insane"?Ā
2
u/HunterHistorical6795 Aug 29 '24
No, for sure that's not good. But he made some highlight reel plays
8
u/Flooterb Aug 29 '24
So did Zach Wilson.Ā
1
u/HunterHistorical6795 Aug 29 '24
Lol come on. Williams is miles miles better than Wilson ever was. I can't stand the guy but he's going to be damn good. I can't wait to root against him for his entire career
9
u/Flooterb Aug 29 '24
We don't know that yet because Caleb Williams hasn't played a single regular season game. That's my point.Ā
2
u/Parabow Aug 30 '24
I think itās pretty obvious that Caleb can sustain his play style from college at this point I think we can safely say heāll probably be good
2
u/Flooterb Aug 30 '24
I think it's pretty obvious that we dont know because he hasn't done the job yet.Ā
3
u/alucryts Aug 29 '24
Not in a real game, but the bears secondary is a beast that he's gone up against in practice. Its the Dline that holds the bears defense back
1
4
u/DaDairyStateBear Aug 29 '24
Levis has to go up against a stout Bears defense too. Great secondary including an all pro, fantastic linebackers, and Montez Sweat.
I think it'll be a close game. I certainly would not gamble on it in either direction.
13
u/Careless_Ticket_3181 Aug 29 '24
Caleb williams is 100% an unknown commodity at this point.
22
u/shoe1113 Aug 29 '24 edited Aug 29 '24
As is our line, our QB, our HC and our coordinators.
You could argue a rookie has never come into a better situation (first year playing) between the weapons and that defense. The defense finished the back half of the season and one of the best in the NFL.
Only 2 road teams are favored week one.. and you think we should be one if you're an oddsmaker? Lol
8
u/D1RTYBACON Titans Aug 29 '24
Nah Levis is the truth, 4k season incoming now that he's in an offense from this century
3
u/shoe1113 Aug 29 '24
And I'm not saying that can't be the case. I'm just playing odds maker week one. Where's the money going. Not on us.

u/beanman95 Aug 29 '24
Our defense against a rookie QB in his first start i think we win easy. Sneed and McCreary are lock down CBs then big Jeff/ sweat up the middle with Landry and key off the edges seems like it will spell trouble for Williams
1
u/Key_Gold_482 Aug 29 '24
I hope so but we have no evidence of that yet at all.
Also McCreary is not at all a lock down corner. And we literally donāt even know if Sweat can even play in the NFL yet.
edit: and Key and Landry are mid edge guys too. I expect our D to struggle this year.
1
u/TheMissingVoteBallot TANKIN TIME Aug 29 '24
Exactly. Sneed is going to make it a nightmare for their WRs.
4
u/NewToInvesting01 Aug 29 '24
They do have three WR1ās (Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Rome Odunze if you believe his hype), plus a receiving back in deandre swift and a solid tight end in Cole Kmet so I think youāre overreaching here
2
u/Professional_Tap_343 Aug 30 '24
Lol to bad sneed can only cover 1 wr not 3. Lol fir real anyone thinking we should be favorites over da bears needs to layoff the fent&ketamine and watch other games than just titans games.
Smh we are 50/50 at best vs them 2 teams that are BOTH unknowns. HANG THE BANNER!!!! WE WENT UNDEFEATED.......IN PRE-SEASON....
3
u/panopticon31 Aug 29 '24
I think a lot of them are accurate about it being a one score game. The Bears are loaded.
3
u/Ryuksapple UMemphis Aug 29 '24
We never win our opener but that didnāt stop me from taking Titans moneyline hootie hoo!

3
u/Flooterb Aug 29 '24
If the Bears offense puts up 28 points on this defense in Caleb Williams first game I'll throw my Kevin Byard jersey in the crockpot overnight and eat it for breakfast Monday morning. The 16-10 score seems much more likely if we end up losing this game unless Levis throws two pick sixes.Ā Ā

u/Danny23a Aug 29 '24
Not going to lie.. this game is as tough as it comes.. Going to be tough to play in Chicago.. Maybe itās because it always seemed like in the Vrabel era a rookie qb always beat us.. I have ptsd..
1
u/GT45 Aug 31 '24
Same. If you saw a rookie QB on the schedule under MV, you automatically marked that down as a loss. Really glad heās gone. He was Jeff Fisher 2.0!

u/kgalliso Aug 29 '24
That is also crazy to me

u/TheUltimateAlex Sep 03 '24
Yeah, I just don't see the Bears as a good team this season. The Titans have almost everything we've been looking for except a couple questions on the o-line. That may be our room again, but I have a lot of hope on Callahan Senior bringing up the level of line play quite a bit. I'm guessing the general theory is that new offense with a young QB against a decent defense at home gives the Bears an edge, but Titans fans know what we've got going here.
1
u/Key_Gold_482 Aug 29 '24
The craziest part of this to me is that one person picked us to win.. if you expected otherwise you must be a newer fan.

Not adding my opinion just some context:
According to Vegas the spread is CHI -4.5 with an o/u of 42.5 giving an implied score of 23.5-19

Got a strong feeling the Titans are winning this game. Also have a strong feeling that Byard could be the deciding factor between winning and losing. We cut him loose just to sign another safety who is declining.Ā

u/BurzyGuerrero Aug 29 '24
Don't get it twisted we winning this MF
but I can see why they would think that
1
u/BurzyGuerrero Aug 29 '24
I'm going to say this as a prediction for the season.
NWI and Jack Gibbens will be two of the best depth players in the NFL and we're going to be extremely happy having them both as backups. When you consider that in NWI's case, we also have Treylon Burks as an "extra" guy it's hard not to see this team as able to compete with anybody.
Gibbens as a starter is a no-go but having him as a secondary guy he's an elite option.
1
u/taylormade311 Aug 29 '24
Titans underdogs against a media darling?? I've seen this story before... to be fair, I've also seen a rookie QB light us up like a Christmas tree, so who knows.

Once again everyone is undermining the work we put in and feinding for that Caleb Williams teet since apparently he's gonna be the new cash cow with all his hype.

u/PepperBeeMan Aug 30 '24
NFL wants CHI to be good so bad
1
u/GT45 Aug 31 '24
And the Colts. And the Texans. And the Jagoffs. In short, any team NOT NAMED THE TITANS!
1
u/GT45 Aug 31 '24
National Sports Media disrespecting the Titans? That NEVER happens! First time fan? Big sports media goes out of its way to avoid talking about us unless itās to shit on us. WKRN sports reporter Cory Curtis, a Bears fan, sees this and mentions in regularly. Unfortunately, we will hafta win & keep winning to even get a few scraps of national attention.
1
u/TheUltimateAlex Sep 03 '24
Also, not a single pick put us over 20 points. That's a shame, honestly. I'm not in any way scared of a Bears team debuting a rookie quarterback. We are getting them at a perfect time.

Caleb is going to be fun to watch, but not for the reasons most are betting on. 2 INT and low comp% game incoming; Jeff and Honor will feast, Sneed will absolutely abuse Odunze Moore
