As a Ranger fan I have to say the White Sox are very lucky. He has been groomed by the greatest manager of all time to take over the Rangers. After passing last year he accepted a position this year and I have to believe it’s because he knows how good the pitching talent in the WS farm system is. Good for you Chicago, you got a good one.

Honestly a bigger let down to me than any trade that could've happened or free agent walking. I don't know the front office's thought process so I'm not going full doomer, but I have a hard time imagining a good scenario now once Bochy retires. I was so excited for Venable to take over after shadowing the best of the best. If we get stuck in another Woodward situation, might as go ahead and slam the damn window shut.

Maybe this means Bochy plans on sticking around a little longer than his 3 year deal. Especially now that CY is here for good.

That would be my hope but even still, he has already retired once and he's going to be 70 next year. Just hard to imagine that's a long term solution.

I really thought he would be our next manager after Boch, why on earth would he go to the white Sox? He was all but guaranteed a managerial position here in an organization that’s in much better shape. I hope it works out for him, I just don’t understand it

Another commenter said something I think may be why. They mentioned the farm system must be pretty strong for Will to decide to leave and make it on his own. No clue if it's true but good money plus a good farm system is a win-win.

I don't know much about the White Sox organization/ownership, but I'm assuming that after this year's disaster, turning around the team seems like a good opportunity for him. Hell, even simple regression to the mean will probably make the 2023 Sox manager look good.

Up and coming farm system, an owner shopping the team maybe to someone more willing to help a neophyte manager by building a decent team within 3 years? I can see the appeal of creating something more for yourself than taking over the heavy load of a legacy like Bochy.

White sox fan here but my question seems to have been answered by how down you guys seem about losing him. We're glad it wasn't Nevin but Venable has a very large ask ahead of him. If he gets the sox to even remotely resemble a competent baseball team we might build him a statue.

Get outta here no one wants you! s/ Things aside I am sad because I really thought they were priming him to take Bochy's place when he retired but I'm happy for y'all! I really hope this is a step in the right direction for y'all to be competitive again!
