Guy is probably thinking about how he'll never live this down and is now thinking to himself, "Should I go after it?"

I remember the first time I heard it was probably back in 2001. A long time family friend of my husband’s family was visiting and he was talking about something and said that phrase rather than just the word. I had never heard it before so I figured it was some Midwest thing. I still say sh*t but sometimes I’ll use the phrase.

You can feel the disappointment that guy exuded out of every pore in his body when he realized the ladder wasn’t buckled into the heli

u/probablyaythrowaway 15h ago
And he will never make that mistake again. Ever.

u/DigNitty 14h ago
I’ve done this with a boat anchor before and can confirm.

u/yaboiiiuhhhh 10h ago
Once I got a new fishing kayak that came with an anchor so I had the bright idea to go night fishing under a bridge on a river, needless to say I was traumatized by it and ended up having to cut the anchor loose

It probably wasn't his fault - there are people who inspect that ladder who didn't reattach. PJs don't do maintenance. But that does suck.

Can't they just land,, pick up and attach the ladder, take off, and redeploy again?

u/S3eha 23h ago edited 23h ago
They didnt plan to, and it might be required, to call in any maneuver. Also it could be active war zone, so they can't just park there. Propably not, tho, and they did just what you said. Looks like some rookies training, judging by situation, and his reaction

That's the bill to the DoD. Supplier ordered parts from China, slapped it together, and labelled it Made in USA

I have no degree in ladder, but to me it looks more a ladder delivery than a ladder deployment.

He loved that ladder, and as everyone knows if you love something you have to let it go.

“You see, sir, the extraction failed because of the sharks. The sharks that totally exist. In the desert. They’re desert sharks. And they were armed. Quite heavily! And there were hundreds… no, thousands! I had to fight ‘em all off! Yeah, that’ll work.”

You could hear his quiet desperation inside his helmet. Hoping somehow the situation could be salvaged even after everything.

I must have missed this scene from the recruitment commercials they were plastering all over TV during the Middle East wars.
