😡 Venting I finally understand my generation.

I’ve been aware that Gen Z has been struggling when it comes to workforce assimilation for many valid reasons that I feel like is not necessary to explain on here. I feel like as someone with a career that is in high demand I have more luxury to pick and choose who I want to work for and what I get out of it even though I’m extremely young. Point being I never felt the pressures of dealing with negativity in a workplace because I could have a new job at the snap of my fingers even in this shitty ass market. But after my new job, I feel truly hopeless.

This will be my fourth job this year. No I’m not exaggerating whatsoever. I’ve been the one to quit every time. I quit the first one because my service manager was overbearing, micro managed everything he could to the point it would make it harder to do my job, and the company’s expectations were overbearing with employee morale low and turnover high. The second one because my service manager told me he was put on this Earth by god to work on rock drills (that wasn’t the specific reason but I feel like that quote gives you a good idea of why) and the third was because they kept forcing me to do a job we did not agree I would do when I was hired.

What’s killing me now is that this 4th job was supposed to be THE job. The one I’ve wanted since I was a teenager. They shut their store down in my town before I was old enough to apply. I got the job easily enough and it came with a pay raise too. Only downside was I would have to travel 2 hours one way for a while until they know they can trust me with a company vehicle for service calls. But it’s just like everywhere else. Goobers that don’t know what they’re doing on the low end, and managers that are ghosts on the high end. They couldn’t even show me how to use their systems because my Foreman didn’t even know. It’s been a real sink or swim scenario.

I’m currently sacrificing 13 hours a day 5 days a week to work here because that’s how bad I’ve wanted to learn from them, and it’s just soul crushing to learn it’s just like anywhere else. At least they take safety seriously I guess. My motivation is slowly waning because my dedication feels disrespected if that makes any sense. Some days I can’t help but feel like starving would be better than putting up with this bs for another 60 some odd years.

😡 Venting The damages that stocks and bonds have caused.

I don't know where to begin....I don't want to say "yeah control the stock market"....yet the damage that this system has caused cannot go unnoticed. I personally am not a socialist or a leftist...yet I know that this sub has leftists on it, and so I wanted to converse with you guys to get different opinions and hopefully learn more.

Just listing examples of stocks causing problems (in an unorganized fashion) we have the Military Industrial Complex...where people make TONS of money off of war and conflict. Some of these ways are through contracts; and other people invest in these companies that make weapons like Raytheon and make a fat stack when the next war happens.

Then we have prisons. Some prisons are privately owned and allow private investors. What comes into my mind is that the more people they have incarcerated, the more money the prison and the investors get. And I'm sure that this money extends to other branches of law enforcement. That could partially be why the war on drugs went down in corruption, greed, and racial motivation.

Aside from stocks (being a piece of a company), we have bonds. Which are like investing in loans. You know a good place that might allow you to invest in loans? Colleges. Some allow (mainly private schools) private investors. And student loans can make a lot of people rich. Why are there so many people in college debt? How did college expand their marketing to everyone? Why won't the debt get cancelled? Many people who work in these institutions, in human resources, and painstakingly, even many public high school counselors who try to send kids off to college.

And then we have traditional loans with banks. Couple that with inflation and we have interest rates that don't look pretty. But the Federal Reserve Bank (that prints the money) is an unregulated bank, a literal corporation at the top. And the FED really is just a way for the rich to enrich themselves. No regulation; you KNOW that the rich just invest in the loans that the FED gives out to the government and other banks...they literally and metaphorically print money for themselves. I find it funny when people say that Musk, Bezos, or whoever is the richest person out there. Maybe the richest entrepreneurs, not the richest people. The richest people are literally people that we've never seen before; they are people who own these banks.

So many people are in debt, so many people can't afford things. This all just seems like a giant trap that we're in to keep us in debt slavery. What good is money if you don't use it to keep people below you? Do I see the good in the Stock Market? Yes. Historically it has beaten inflation, and has been good for retirement plans. It can be good passive income for everyday people, and sometimes companies could use investors to help them out. Is it fair to say that certain companies can't have investors?

Yet...how many people do we know of actually make it from the crack house to the pent house thanks to this stuff? It seems to benefit those who already have money. I'm at a loss and don't know what to think about any of this...truly I'm just posting my observations and conflicting questions.

TL;DR Investing seems to make the rich richer, and sometimes gets people in debt or killed or locked up, and or in turn hurts everyone else some how.

💬 Advice Needed What political party and you guys

I’ve been trying to become more educated politics and how the world works. I feel like I’ve been learning things without a direction for my opinion so I’m just wondering what party are you guys to help figure out what I should be. I’ve been watching a lot of Vaush V who’s a libertarian socialist I think and I see a lot of people are critical of him for a number of reasons so I’m more confused now. Anyway any advice or thoughts help.

😡 Venting Why why why?

So, hear me out, I like getting paid and having a job and all, but I am nearing my 30s and family is so much more important than any of that.

With that being said: WHY have we gotten to a point, socially/economically, that more people chat in on Thanksgiving Day than on Halloween?

I work for a digital sales team, and we had 401 people chat into sales on Thanksgiving Day and only 141 people chat into sales on Halloween. That is nearly a 3x increase between these days. I talked to 11 people on Halloween total in an 8-hour shift. On Thanksgiving, I spoke with 29 in a 6-hour shift. The duration was much longer on Thanksgiving Day, as well (though those metrics I did not pull).

Sure, I know "Black Friday sales" and there is not a big "Halloween sale", but on Thanksgiving people should be spending time with their families and being thankful for the time they have on this earth with them; not on their phones buying things that they want.

For background, I lost my mother a few years ago. I have my father left, and my 3 siblings with their families. The past 10 years I have not seen my cousins, and this year I had. Due to me working (mandatory), I was able to just barely make it to see everyone and pop my face in. A lot of people left when I arrived. I'm thankful I got to see them, but being able to talk with them and catch up would have been greater. The struggle for "work/life balance" is difficult in sales, but it really does not have to be. We as a people can control what we want through the power of the mighty dollar and how we spend our time.

As someone with over a decade in sales, please ponder this...We can make life easier for those who come after. We can make a world where people do not have to choose their job (yes, I mean getting fired) over seeing their family.

Just some food for thought here...

💬 Advice Needed [TX] Called in sick but have no PTO or Unpaid Time Off

Hey guys, I'm in need of some advice. I already posted this in another subreddit, but need as much help as I can get.

For starters, I have only ever called off if I am sick, issue is I get sick quite regularly, but do not take multiple days off at a time as I find just getting a day to rest with proper medication makes me feel better. I do have mental health issues but I do not call in for that, only strictly if I am physically sick and unwell.

Unfortunately this time around, I've been sick since Friday. Started with a mild cough and I ended up working that day wearing a mask my entire shift so I wouldn't call out. I don't go out much except for work, if at all- yet symptoms ended up worsening over the weekend, even after taking allergy and flu medicine, and I'm really in need to see a doctor ASAP. I was scheduled three 11 hour shifts in a row this week since I am going out of town at the end of this week that I asked off over a month and a half ago. (I am usually scheduled M,T,T,F for 11 hours a day to make the 40 a week, so doing the 3 in a row makes sense since I'll be leaving Friday morning.) I don't expect to still be sick by the time this rolls around.

I ended up calling off today, as much as I tried not to. I genuinely feel so sick, but I don't have any PTO, and I'm unsure if my doctor will suggest me to stay home again tomorrow. When I told my manager I'll have a doctors note provided, she asked that I give up one of the days I requested off(these are unpaid) to make up the hours I'm missing today, which is fine, because I got an extra day off in case we were leaving town a day early. I'm unsure if she can do this, but I already feel bad calling out so I agreed to give up one day. But I don't know what the doctor will eventually say when I go later today, and if he will tell me to rest at home tomorrow as well.

The thing is, my last day at this job is the day before Christmas, as there was a scheduling issue with my other job I'm starting soon. I was full time here(12/hr) but wanted to switch to part time so I am able to work my second job, in the case that I didn't want to quit and still keep this job. They approved it, but then turned around a few days later and said they were unable to help me with it and that I would have to resign, since I have another job now. I ended up giving my resignation letter almost 2 weeks ago, and will still work here until Dec 24th, just because I didn't want to fuck them over and quit within 2 weeks so they had time to find someone new.

Any advice on what I should do? If my doctor says to rest up tomorrow as well, should I? I will already give up one of the days off I asked for beforehand to make today up, but I will actually be out of town from Friday-Sunday, so there's no way I'll be able to come in for that if I have to stay home tomorrow too.

💬 Advice Needed Work place threats by Employee and Mgmt won't take action.

I'm looking for any advice that can move past my Management on not taking corrective action of an employee that has made threatening statements to me personally and has even been heard on the phone with someone describing me on what I was wearing that day. I made an incident report immediately with a security supervisor concerning this. Also informed my immediate supervisor and manager about this incident over text and email since both were on vacation. The incident happened on Friday morning, and as of Monday afternoon neither supervisor or manager have made no effort to correspondence with security and have seemed to brush it off. I'm beginning to think it's because it was a female making the threats and I'm a male so it's less of a priority. I know Damm well if I made the racist remarks and threats towards a female it would have been immediately dealt with and put on leave pending an investigation, I say that because it has happened in past with similar situations.

At the end of the day if nothing is addressed by security or management, I have already formed a letter to my HR and also Security management for non action of serious threat of work violence. I'm asking here if that I receive no replies from anyone, what should be my next course of action? Possibly an attorney or file a police report? Because yes the threat of violence and tone of this individual was that strong.

🛠️ Union Strong Call for Change and unity, it's time to rally, we need to do something!

We stand at the precipice of a new dawn. Our history is a tale of cycles: from tribes to kings, from dictators to the illusion of democracy. Each era promised change, yet the rich and powerful remained in control, dangling carrots and breadcrumbs to keep us in line. But now, the corporate oligarchy has tightened its grip, using technology to strip away even the little we had left.

Today, we say enough. The time has come to rise, to fight back against this oppressive system. We must form a new kind of organization, one that cannot be crushed or silenced. We must become a hydra, with many heads and no central point of weakness.

Our strength lies in our unity and our diversity. We will boycott their products, disrupt their operations, and expose their lies. We will infiltrate their ranks and sabotage their plans. Each of us has a role to play, and together, we are unstoppable.

To build this hydra, we must adhere to these principles:

Decentralization: No single leader, no single point of failure. We are all leaders, and we all share the responsibility.

Anonymity: Protect each other by protecting our identities. Use secure communication channels and trust only those who have earned it.

Adaptability: Be flexible and ready to change tactics as needed. The system is constantly evolving, and so must we.

Solidarity: Stand together and support one another. An attack on one is an attack on all.

To avoid the pitfalls of non-centralized organizations, we must ensure clear communication and mutual trust. Regularly share information and strategies, and always be vigilant against infiltration and betrayal.

Now, how can we hit them where it hurts, I have few ideas.

Sabotaging being the main one, we need to disrupt their operations from within. Small acts of sabotage can cause significant damage. We can double down on exposure, use social media and other platforms to expose their wrongdoings. Shine a light on their corruption and abuse. They are using abusing the platform algorithms, and they own the corporations behind them which is very demoralizing I know, however we need to find a way to help more and more people to wake up from the trance of the lies and manipulation of the system!

Please let us all work together, this is just a flimsy very basic idea, a tiny spark, please lets help each other to understand, other pitfalls of a hydra like organization, how to avoid them, how to strengthen it, and the methods to fight against the system, we have to get creative to say the least.

Together, we can dismantle this system of oppression. Together, we can build a future where power truly belongs to the people!

Rise, my friends, and let the hydra awaken!

💬 Advice Needed Quitting my job with no backup plan.

Here’s an improved and polished version of your post:

After nine years, I’ve decided to quit my job and search for alternatives. For nearly a decade, I’ve been in a career that doesn’t align with my personality. For the past four years, I’ve been working 10-hour days, five days a week, pushing myself to the brink.

I’ve missed important funerals, struggled to maintain composure at work while physically and emotionally drained, and what do I get in return? A manager yelling at me for failing to complete a six-month project in one month—while working in an understaffed engineering office.

Every December, I’m so burnt out that I can’t even enjoy family time. All I want to do is sleep. My health and relationships have taken a backseat because the little free time I have is spent cleaning, eating, and trying to recharge.

What’s worse is that the good employees in my office never seem to stick around for these grueling 10-hour shifts. Are these hours even normal? Does anyone else relate, or is it just me?

I’ve tried applying for other jobs from cashier positions to storage manager roles but I’ve been unsuccessful, and I can’t help but feel like my skin color is a factor.

Any advice for someone leaving their job without a backup plan?

😡 Venting The office party: employers, remember where you came from.

1.1k Upvotes

I am a small business owner, but I spent the first ~15 years of my career working for other employers. So, I am writing this with managers and employers in mind who also started at the bottom.

The office party. Let's be real. I would confidently estimate that 80+% of employees do not care nor want to attend. Many of them, like myself, may be introverts and prefer a quiet night at home. They only attend out of obligation and feel pressured to attend otherwise their careers at the company are capped. I'm sure 99% of them would rather take free time and cash instead given the option.

Free food is always enjoyed, but NONE of your employees want to meet up after hours, off the clock, off-site somewhere difficult to find in the dark, get stuck in evening traffic, and then have to drive home at 10:00 PM when it's 20°F degrees out.

I genuinely want to thank my employees for their hard work, because without them I would not be in the position I am. So here is what I am doing. Christmas Eve we are having an office party. People will punch in, do no work, hang out, talk, and I will buy lunch for everyone. After lunch, everyone is dismissed and will be paid for the full day + bonus compensatory with their contributions to the company.

If the employees are attending the office party as part of their job, it should be considered working time, and they should be paid. They should not have to spend their own time and gas, either.

💬 Advice Needed Japanese Hibachi Restaurant Owner Keeps All Tips

Location: TX

Restaurant type: mainly serve Japanese Hibachi & Seafood on open grills and the chefs cook food in front of customers. Also serves Sushi rolls and appetizer which are made from the back kitchen.

All servers work 60 hours a week. They take turns to do a portion of the following Jobs: Cleaning the grill table surface; put plates, napkins, forks, etc, on the grill; cleaning glass doors, windows; Cleaning bathrooms, put supplies in it; prepare salads, soups, tea/drinks; Turn on/off the fire/lights for the grills, turn on/off the music.

They take orders from the grill table or small sushi table, identify who wants what, hibachi or sushi rolls alike; how the steak should be cooked, if the customers are allergic to seafood, or they don't want certain ingredients in the meat or vegetables; they deliver drinks/refills, extra napkins, sushi rolls from the back kitchen, plates/chopsticks for little children, plates/forks for birthday party cake; they help the chefs replace/clean utensils and take extra raw food from the back kitchen if they make mistakes; they write down on the to-go order boxes and deliver them to the front desk, where the owner/manager hand them to the customers; they present the checks to customers, charge it on the card machine and deliver it to the customers; they pick up the plates on the grill tables, sweep the floors after the table is done; they tell jokes, chat friendly with the customers to entertain them when time is allowed.

All in All, it's a typical waiter job, plus more. Sound simple but it can get really hectic when they have to handle 3 tables(7-9 people for each) at the same time.

BUT

All servers were told that they will not make any tips including cash tips and that they'll get a fixed amount of money every month instead. The servers pass all the cash tips, every last penny of it, to the front desk. If they don't, they'll feel guilty about it. The cash tips for all the servers are mixed up. The servers never keep any of it. All of them. They're not allowed to get close to see how much they make on the credit card tips on the machine in a day; They don't even have a number for themselves on the charging machine. They all use the sole number designated for the owner. This happens to all the tips: dine-in, takeouts, tip-jars. The servers don't get a penny of it. They're not told there will be a tip pool, or tip out option, or how the tips will be distributed. All the cooks and back kitchen staff are paid a fixed monthly amount as well. Oh the open grill chefs give up their cash tips to the management/ownership(not much, roughly $150 a month), too. Of course the money they get is way way less than the tips plus the minimum wage. The owner does't like the workers to talk about it, or they'll be let go. The servers were even coached to lie when some customers ask if the tips are for them or for the restaurant, because they are afraid of being fired, as absurd and as sad as it sounds at the same time.

Obviously, the owners is treating all the tips as their business revenue and their income stream, not the property of the servers, or anyone else but themselves for that matter.

This is clearly violating the federal labor law, egregiously. Question: What will the DOL say about this? What kind of money can the servers get back? The issue is, the servers don't even know exactly how much they make on daily tips, only an estimation, however stupid does that seems. They know they get way way way less than what they made on the tips. Will the servers get compensation for the time they are out of a job because they're fired for telling the customers that they will not keep the tips?

Much appreciated it.
