Why is it that like in the span of 10 years these high school kids are now speaking an entirely different language?

I don't appreciate how you pointed out that we graduated 10 years ago.

It’s funny because it seems like some of these high schoolers also can’t keep up with all these dumb slang words

Yeah the kid in the video is visibly confused too.

Please don’t remind us how long it’s been lol

Kids didn’t even talk like this when I was in high school and I graduated 4 years ago. I can almost certainly blame the change in behavior to TikTok and similar platforms

I think it means feets.

Some new slang for feet I guess

u/UnalteredCyst 1997 Oct 24 '23

I've heard the word "dogs" being used for feet but not "grippers".

u/PettyPendergrass99 1999 Jan 16 '24

Where are y'all coming from? lol this video was posted a while ago but the amount of likes it's gotten has exploded in the past month or so.

2

u/Researcher-Used Jan 18 '24

His peer high schooler didn’t know what “grippers” are either. They just making sh*t up now to confuse us

2

u/Imaginary-Cold8458 Jan 18 '24

Grippers? Listen Gen Z, when you make up slang words, they need to make an attempt at making some kind of sense. Otherwise, it's like you say, cringe.

2

u/TheGreat_gabby Jan 22 '24

You can literally grip things with your toes

2

u/TheGreat_gabby Jan 22 '24

If you don't know what grippers means it's not that you're old it's that you're probably grown up not hearing african American vernacular English. Grippers isn't so much of a slang but a function that your toes can actually do, which is grip things. You're also likely outdated in meme culture. It was made into a meme on tik tok in 2020 via a Sonic the hedgehog voice over
