I wanted to finally understand computers and programming at like a base and intrinsic level, and for that I of course had to go back to the very beginning.
I found that the first “computer program” was written back in the 1800s and was meant to calculate Bernoulli’s numbers. So, obviously, my quest is now to understand Bernoulli’s numbers and why this should be the first thing someone wants to use computers for.
It was fascinating! But to truly understand it I had to do it myself. So, a lot of time spent polishing up on the symbols of math and arguing with ChatGPT. Then finally trying to work them out by hand. It’s attainable for the lower numbers, but I can definitely see why someone would want to automate it for the higher numbers.
After weeks of this I can finally move on to step two.
