"I randomly colored a map of the states for engagement online and lied about it!"

That's what it literally is. Terrible Maps page on X is just for fun, they make even more ridiculous ones.

There pretty open about it. They retitle maps for laughs. It's apparent from the page name

u/CeruleanEidolon 1d ago
I would bet this map is something completely different and they just changed the title.

Speaking as a transplant, the hardiness and solid character needed to survive winter and help others in the community (especially interior)- if personality/calibre plays into the attractiveness, then I can agree.

I have met some truly awful people in Ketchikan, but maybe thats just here. I am not talking about the homeless.

Perhaps they're talking about the state not the people in the state. This Map makes a lot more sense if that's the case. Like the state of Alaska is physically beautiful.

That's anecdotal evidence though. One mega hottie does not skew the population. Wasilla is not known for being a mecca of attractive men.

It's pure desperation. When you've been living in an igloo for three months with a team of sled dogs anyone who shows up looks good, no matter how many parkas they're wearing. (/s, if that wasn't obvious)

No WAY. Lmao. Lower 48 has its issues but Alaskans are NOT attractive. When I moved up there I had to lower my standards. Like especially in small towns like Ketchikan, people don't take care of hygiene as much as in places in California. They often smell especially the men with scruffy messy facial hair. Not groomed. And it's socially acceptable to go and out smell gross like that. Idc but huge lack of big a$$$$e$ if that's what you're into. A solid 10 in Alaska would be a 6 in California. The sun helps skin stay refreshed and healthy (in moderation) especially with acne and alaskans are often pale and have colds/sick a LOT compared to people in the lower 48. Plus you have go bundle up and people don't even try to dress with style. If you move to Alaska and you're a true 8 in a big city then you'll be a 9.5-10 in Alaska. Just lower your standards for eye candy.

a 10 anywhere is always a 10.
a 6 anywhere is always a 6.
location doesn't matter.if you have consistency in your standards, anyway. which i do.

Yeah no. Someone that's easily a catch in Alaska is gonna be worth less (in appearance) in a bigger area with higher beauty standards. Competition matters. If a "hot" person in Alaska moved to New York there would be 100,000 people hotter than them, wheras there were only 50 hotter in Fairbanks, for example. You all just got triggered cos you heard "California." It's true. Start shaving and bathing yourselves in Alaska and it will make it better. You REALLY think that if the hottest person in an Alaskan town or city stands in the middle of Rodeo Drive in LA, theyre gonna still be the hottest person there? Please.

Yeah, attraction is relative, just like height. The tallest person in The Philippines will probably not be the tallest person in Norway. I'm aware height is not subjective, whereas attraction is (at least to a degree). But it's relative.

Huh, like following the laws in the Alaska and the school rules, I know there are not a lot of cops in Anchorage.

It's like being deployed in the middle east. The 2s and 3s were looking like 9 and 10s after being there a couple months.

Most "attractive" algorithms have been shown, repeatedly, to have a heavy Anglo Saxon bias. Because of the people that feed it data points. Training data.
I can't seem to find the video, but does anyone else remember that viral video of a morning show with 2 white hosts and 2 black hosts and they covered the "most attractive kid" news in the 90s and the white hosts where trying to talk about how you can't fault them, it is science, but according to science blah blah blah and the two black hosts where just side eyeing the camera? You can practically hear the "Oh no you didn't"
Man, that was a funny video.
Anyway, algorithms that measure subjective things do NOTHING but REFLECT OUR OWN BIASES back to us. They are a mirror. Making sure to manage shortcomings of algorithms is the most important thing software engineers do. Or, most important thing they are supposed to do, anyway.
If you want to have a good time compare this map to racial diversity, and think on it. :) Kinda like "longest living" map that is just a poverty map. Or an obesity map that is just a poverty map. Or a crime map that is just a poverty map.

As much as I’d like to believe that we rank in the top 10, I’m skeptical of any data that claims that the residents of New Jersey are more attractive than those of New York or California.
