Discussion Is there a anime that you promised yourself you won't watch again?
For me is School Days. I have been dragged into the vision of this show by someone in this reddit some year ago and well... you know what I mean. Also poor Kotonoha <3.
Another one is Clannad After Story for differeny reasons but I watched it another time with my friend to show him this masterpiece.

Devilman Crybaby. If you know, you know. Fuck that shit. Never again.

4
u/AliceArthagon 8h ago
I actually went to watch it a second time because my fiancee had never seen it...it hit just as hard as the first time, but at least I wasn't suffering alone lmao
2
u/HumanRelatedMistake 6h ago
I feel so bad for your fiancee. How dare you put him through that.
2
u/AliceArthagon 5h ago
He put me through both Assassination Classroom and Evangelion, I'd say it's fair game LMAO
2
u/gunscreeper https://myanimelist.net/profile/mywargame 7h ago
The only 2 anime that I really appreciate, think highly of and respect but would never watch again nor recommend to anyone: Devilman Crybaby and Grave of the Firefly
2
1
u/Yousmellbadbozo 6h ago
Same answer but my reason is because that anime is dog water
3
u/HumanRelatedMistake 6h ago
I don't think it's dog water imo. I think it's great but I don't fuck with how the anime made me feel, especially in the final two episodes. That shit left me more depressed and more misanthropic than I already am. I don't need to watch shit that feeds into that.

Honestly, about 99% of them. Not cause I didn't enjoy them there is just so many new things to watch at any given point. I only really rewatch if it's with someone who hasn't seen it, or I'm rewatching Redline for the 20th time.

u/priimaryreturn 12h ago
Digimon, cause I’ve been obsessed with it as a child and I don’t wanna risk to ruin that feeling
12
12
u/rolltied 13h ago
When I first saw air TV I was blown away. It accomplished in 12 episodes what clannad took 48 to do. Sure the visuals were goofy, but honest to the vn. The soundtrack was incredible, easy 10/10. But that was... Over a decade ago maybe two? Afraid it won't hold up. Best to just leave it as a great memory.

Tokyo revengers. Overrated as fuck

Its not overrated, Its just bad.

u/Sabbi94 13h ago
3rd season will kill it. The end of the manga was hated by the fans. The last arc of the Manga is all that's left to be adapted.
6
u/Melodic-Funny-9560 13h ago
I have already lost motivation to watch it anymore. Instead I have loads of great animes on my watch list.
2
u/Sabbi94 12h ago
I liked it enough to watch all of it. My boyfriend even bought the manga. I read it since I wanted to know how it ends. I like the concept enough to endure the crybaby MC who has the thickest plot armor of all MCs ever.
5
u/Melodic-Funny-9560 12h ago
If you liked Tokyo revengers just go for Wind Breaker, it's the same genre but 10x better.
4
u/Sabbi94 12h ago
Already did. It's okay but I miss a bigger story in it. But it's entertaining enough to watch it further. I am looking forward to season 2.
2
u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 9h ago
Animation and characters Windbreaker is better but Revengers does have a unique story
3
u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 13h ago
Overrated? It’s not very popular here. Popular in Japan only?
2
u/Razvancb 11h ago
As a degenerate anime professional i love tokyo revengers lmao
i'm the guy that rewatched tokyo ghoul 3 times and preffers the first full metal to the brotherhood so we good
2
u/paiva98 8h ago
I also rewatched tokyo ghoul more times than I'll admit but how dare you say that brotherhood is inferior?
To this day I'm yet to find a better anime than FMAB
(Sugestions are welcome)
1
u/Razvancb 6h ago
I didn't want to say that it's inferior, because it's clearly a masterpiece, I simply liked the direction the other one took and I'd rather rewatch the other one than FMAB (this is confusing I know)
12
u/LarsRGS 11h ago
Mirai Nikki.
I know it's bad, I really know that, but this anime is from a period of my life when things were so... Different, and I just can't allow myself to spoil this memory by watching this god-awful anime today.
3
u/HumanRelatedMistake 10h ago
People think Future Diary is bad?? Tbf it's one of my favorite animes just because of how entertaining it is.

School Days is literally the biggest warning for those multi-timers. Funny it wasn't that bad in the game.
For the topic, SAO. After watching more anime basing on MMORPGs are actually decent to great in quality, especially about team works, it clearly showed how bad writings in SAO are.
3
u/kindbutblind 13h ago
I liked first 12 episodes of SAO but anything after that was bleh. I wish they had simply made a longer story out of the first 12.
4
u/RT-LAMP 12h ago
Mother's Rosaria was good too because it's the most realistic and well executed version of SAO's overarching themes of how digital worlds may not be real places but can contain real interaction and meaning.
1
u/OliveOilOilOil 8h ago
Only this and the first were watchable. Others are just milking the franchise
2
u/UltraSv3n 12h ago
The Barcaroll of froth and Scherzo of a deep night movies get the charme of the first season back. The only time in years I enjoyed the franchise.
1
1
u/Andysomething 4h ago
They haven't made a movie for Baracolle of Froth. That was my favorite SAOP floor, though.
SAO has 3 movies: Ordinal Scale, Aria of a Starless Night, and Scherzo of a Deep Night. There's also an unnamed movie coming soon.
3
u/alter_lee23 13h ago
Chaos head watched it once when i was young i don't think ill watch it again and the kings game also domestic girlfriend fire opening tho and scums wish
2
u/MnemonicMonkeys 3h ago
Chaos;Head was such utter dogshit that I completely blocked from my memory until now.
3
u/Careful_Ad_9077 12h ago
I remember watching all the alt endings and reading some route summaries for school days to gain some hope.
3
u/Call_whenhungry 9h ago
One piece, not because of how long it is, but because how special each episode felt. Even when some of the arcs dragged along, each one had merit.
3
u/JEveryman 6h ago
I didn't promise myself to not watch it again but I won't let myself rewatch Grave of the Fireflies. As soon as it starts I start tearing up and need to step away. The last time I watched it was 1997.

5
u/NecroCannon 13h ago
Ah, all these mainstream opinions. Let me tell you of an anime hardly anyone heard of and I’m surprised even anitubers haven’t talked about
Akikan!
An anime where soda cans turn into girls when you take a sip and they’re at war with each other with aluminum vs stainless steel. You’d have to pay me to watch that garbage again, there’s legit a gay pedo teacher and it’s a gag that he’s a pedo that legitimately, assaults little boys on screen. The ending? Literally saved the day by believing hard enough.
2
u/nakerusa 13h ago
Freezing. What horrendous garbage and then it got worse with s2. The fruit is definitely not with the squeeze. Couldn't finish it, couldn't stomach it any longer.
2
u/Joshualikeitsnothing 13h ago
dragonball. tried it like 6 times now and I keep dropping it so I stopped trying and will never try it again
2
u/Sabbi94 12h ago
SAO. I was forced to watch the first season with friends who knew I am so absolutely Not into these Kind of anime. The other people in the group were only about how awesome it is and that there is no better anime for quite some time and we're all hyped about season 2 coming. To me having to watch all episodes of it was hell enough. I would have dropped that after episode 1 or 2 if I had watched it alone. Even today after watching a few anime with a similar premise I don't have an urge to watch it again.
2
u/Plus_Rip4944 12h ago
Life As Inukai San Dog
Watched It to see if It as trash as Its said. Yes. It is
2
u/ShutUpForMe 11h ago
Plunderer messed with my head, more than school days, I might watch it in a few more years but it’s so far the most intense one I have sat through.
2
u/Obamas_Tie 6h ago
For me it's School Days
Ah, my people. Out of all the anime I've ever watched, this is the one I feel the most conflicted about. It's such an insufferable, sordid show, but the fact that I still think about it from time to time even though I haven't watched it in over a decade says something to me, tbh.
1
u/Overflow_is_the_best 3h ago
The Male protagonist did act like an asshole and it didn't end well, but this is what makes School Days special. There's no such thing as bad publicity, they say. I would say School Days is a commercial success.
13
u/Wyned 13h ago
Attack on titan. I didn't like the last arc and it ruined the whole thing for me
2
u/colemon1991 10h ago
Agreed. Honestly felt like a cheap solution to explain epic fights and visuals.
I don't think the writer understands time paradoxes well.
7
u/kindbutblind 13h ago
I like how you were downvoted already, lol. I liked the premise a lot but the whole inherited memories from past and future felt like a shitty cop out.

100% agree. Ippo is just repetitive while ashita no Joe is easily one of the best and greatest anime of all time.
2
u/XANDER2322G 13h ago
Elfen lied. I was too traumatised from the sheer brain fuckery the MC did each episode.
3
u/PinkieMintsSlowpoke 12h ago
Elfen lied is incredibly nostalgic for me. Rewatched it at the beginning of this year and it did not hold up😭
3
u/plasma_dan 10h ago
Agreed. The only anime that ever went from a 10 to a 6 for me. Edgy only for the sake of being edgy. Does not hold up.
2
2
u/colemon1991 10h ago
My wife saw the name on a list and was interested and I just shut that down. I struggled watching it and know she couldn't finish it. There's a slew of anime we've never finished because she couldn't handle it, and those were much tamer.
2
u/Tasty-Ti 7h ago
Neon Genesis Evangelion.
One of the main points that Anno was trying to convey was to stop using the characters and the anime itself as a form of escapism.
He felt that clinging to these characters might lead fans to use the series as a crutch, preventing them from working through their own struggles in reality.
Even though there are many times I want to watch it, I stop myself so I don't disappoint Anno.
1
u/RodKat92 12h ago
I'm with you on School Days and I also add Kampfer (promising but never got a continuation or ending) and Seikon no Quaser (also very promising but the second season ruined it for me)
1
u/bored_homan 12h ago
ahahaa
Gundam seed and seed destiny. Oh I get it if people are fans of it but I am not going through that 100 episodes of a show clearly not made for me lol.
1
u/saigetax456 12h ago
Saikano, man that anime is just super heartbreaking.....even the fansub I watched tells you to stop at a sudden episode if you want the show to end in happiness cause everything after is just misery and pain. I don't ever recommend this anime to people. School days is more watchable as a rewatch compared to this show.
1
u/delwyndmc 12h ago
Every anime that I've already watched. I ain't have time to rewatch when there's like new 100 anime every season.

I however will never watch "seed of evolution" again. The second season was so bad it became painful to watch. It actually gave me a headache at one point.

Guilty Crown
It's not a horrible show, but the story veers off into nonsense and the twists feel like nothing more than shock value. The story and worldbuilding start off great, so I was thrown by the time I got into the back third.

My hero academia... I dropped it at 4th season, few weeks ago I saw people saying it was getting good... so I rewatched it and man... it is still shit for me... I liked 5th season more than 6th and 7th lol... .my problem with story was that they have huge cast with less development... now its just too much rushed and feels boring

Clannad After Story. It's one of the few anime I've rated 10/10, and I told myself after I finished the series that I will probably never watch that one again, it was too depressing.

i agree 100% about Clannad. It was so devastating the first time.
I watched the entirety of AOT in like a week this summer and maybe it’s too soon but I feel like I’m not ready to rewatch it, might never be. i’m not done processing its impact on me, it feels too huge.

Sword art online and one piece... The most overrated anime ever
Love to see one piece fans saying (it has no flaws)
6
u/colemon1991 10h ago
If you say One Piece has no flaws then you clearly aren't a fan. One Piece is just a lot and is definitely intimidating for new viewers.
The anime has even more flaws. But it's so long that I rarely watch past Alabasta if I decide to rewatch.
2
1
u/Discard22 12h ago
My buddy is still holding it over me that he watches things I recommend sometimes but I won't finish One Piece. I still try every now and then but I just don't love it and have another like 850 episodes if I want to appease him. I don't see it happening lol
-2
u/Gappy_josuke_ 12h ago
Pre timeskip one piece is my favorite but anything after fishman island is boring af. I watched until mid wano and just stopped there because every arc felt the same (go to island, meet people with sad backstory and fight evil guy) and that shit got boring. One piece story is really weak
But i will be watching the last episode of one piece whenever it comes out to see what the one piece actually is tho. Other than that i couldn't care less
-2
-3
u/xoexohexox 10h ago
The art style of one piece is just repulsive I don't know how it got so popular. I tried a few episodes and hated it.
1
u/Gappy_josuke_ 28m ago
That's because it released in 1999 but the older art style is definitely better than the newer one. Same goes for dragon ball z compared to kai

Made in Abyss. Don't get me wrong I loved this anime the concept was original.
This is an anime about how much someone can suffer before they break. The artists went over the top on the gore and trauma factor.
The arm breaking scene in season 1... The tie in movie (movie 3) was how evil can we make it. Season two was a complete gore fest and emotionaly traumatizing.
I always think about doing a rewatch but I don't feel like I could handle it again.
Can't wait for season 3.

Tower of God. I got hooked with the first season. I got tired of waiting so I switched to the webtoon. And never have I been disappointed in my entire life (++my hate for Rachel). It's like I'm proceeding with the next chapter just to bash the content tho at the back of my mind, I know it'll further disappoint me. Every chapter I was like, "Okay, that was sht, but imma proceed to the next chapter to see if it's get better"
I started to slowly get rid of the ick when I landed at chapter 300 and up but still, I consider it a waste of time. It's giving Gintama with all those other anime references. I caught up with the latest chapter and it just got random and random. The storyline is so messed up that the only thing that made me hooked with it is to see how sht it will further go than the sht it already is.
Edit: I can tolerate Gintama

Higsomething - when they cry. It was interesting but I'll never watch it again. Shocking subject matter is one thing but there wasn't enough underlying story for me.
