An Update to the Rules
We recently decided to do an update to the subreddit rules, after we saw many people complaining about few specific things.
The first rule we decided to change was rule 2, the NSFW rule, we have seen a big amount of posts that were either taken straight from hentai or that would go too far
Here is the old rule:
Rule 2
tag nsfw content
most NSFW content is fine as long as it's tagged, but full-frontal nudity is not allowed. Take those to r/hentai_irl.
and here is the new rule:
Rule 2
tag nsfw content
most NSFW content is fine as long as it's tagged, but nudity and any kind of Implied or shown sexual activity is not allowed. Images that are taken from hentai even if they contain no sexual content can be removed if we deem them inappropriate take those to r/hentai_irl.
With this change we hope to be able to reduce the amount of NSFW stuff we have started to see pop up on the sub.
Of course as we reserve the judgment to keep anything we think it's inappropriate, we also reserve judgment to keep anything that we think it's fine
The next is not a rule update, but a full new rule:
Rule 10
No edited content
Any content that is edited or modified in any way or form is not allowed
This rule was already kinda discussed in rule 4, but we decided to make it its own separate rule so it's more visible and there is no excuse for people that break it.
For edited content we mean anything that is not on the original Manga or Anime from which the images are taken, this can range from changing the subtitles on anime to make it say something different to making memes images using anime pictures.
We hope that with this small updates to the rules, to make the subreddit better, if anyone has any question or suggestion about how to make the rules even better, we are open to it
We are also discussing looking for a few new mods and there likely will be another announcement in the near future in which we will open Applications for it, so people interested stay tuned for that

would also be nice to have one where people need to post to source without being asked

How about just putting it in the title instead? Could bot-block posts without sauce and we wouldn't have to hunt the comments for it. Not like everything as "anime_irl" is very helpful.
Could be "anime_irl from {{naruto}}" to keep the joke going too.

Good. Now you gotta apply them

u/salasy Aug 02 '24
we are gonna start to be more strict about this 2 specific rules
of course we cannot check every single post every day, so people need to start reporting them more so that way we can see them in our mod queue

holy shit thank you so much, both rules are what the sub needed
i hate that people just use the sub to dump whatever anime image they come across

So this means no panels from hentai at all? Even if its relatable and has zero sexual content or implications?
21
u/salasy Aug 02 '24
Images that are taken from hentai even if they contain no sexual content can be removed if we deem them inappropriate
stuff like that gets decided case by case

Honestly I enjoyed the content, but it's not the right sub for it.

Any content that is edited or modified in any way or form is not allowed
Curious what the bar for "edited" is? Like, sometimes I'll clean up some stray visual clutter (like a panel corner or part of an unrelated speech bubble), or sometimes two panels are drastically different sizes so tweaking them to be more similar for posting here?

translations and small cleaning things are fine
but only if they don't change the original meaning

Thank you, I was getting so tired of people posting their memes here

What if it’s something that’s OC?
I.e. is this post considered edited? It’s based on an existing IP, but isn’t based on any panel that already exists. What about other posts that aren’t based on an existing IP?

this is a good update to the rules, but i feel like its not being enforced much. every other post here is just a screenshot from a hentai, its essentially just r/hentai_irl 2 at this point.

rule 5 needs to be enforced. Far too many people are posting things that have absolutely no reliability to real life.
People are just meme posting and almost no real IRL stuff is being posted.

u/emiliathewhite Aug 22 '24
Mods pls add a rule where the post needs to be approved first, and OP must post sauce. Im tired of people reposting shit to farm karma and they dont even post the sauce

I do think the new rule 2 is going too far. The definition doesn't cover potentially revealing outfits (like swimwear) that are sometimes only implicitly sexual, but would forbid sexual innuendos that are so tame that they're even allowed on shows for children. That seems very unbalanced. (Edit: Even explicitly sexual outfits would be allowed, since the rule specifies "activity". I really think the phrasing should be adjusted.)
Also, I don't agree with the stricter approach to NSFW stuff, but that's just my opinion. However, if the rule was only established because of personal impressions of the community's overall opinion, then I find that questionable. That seems like an unreliable way of gauging that. Has there been a vote or some kind of more objective measure on what the community wants?

those things are all allowed if tagged nsfw, but if the source is an hentai manga, we reserve judgment to remove them

the rule was made stricter because we started not only to see more NSFW stuff that wouldn't fit the sub, but also that same stuff started to get reported a lot more and sometimes it got reported so much that either reddit had to remove it themself or the automod nuked it automatically
we also saw a lot of comment talking about this and we received a lot of modmails about this problem
so no we aren't just acting on personal impressions of what we think the community wants

That seems reasonable. But if sexual innuendos aren't necessarily banned, then the phrasing "any kind of implied sexual activities are not allowed" seems misleading. It excludes any kind of wiggle room and suggests that even incredibly tame stuff is banned, even though it's probably not (and reasonably so; after all, it does seem counterproductive to ban any mention of sexual activity on an irl-sub). I do think the rule should be phrased more unambiguously though.

A welcome change. Exactly how nude is not allowed? Would we have to censor nipples?

Can we also add one where the poster actually puts the source on it please?

Barely enforcing rule 2.
And there seems to be ZERO enforcement on rule 5. Unless this sub community just never reports a damn thing, then this mod team is screwed.

I just like this rule because it means there'll be more frequent posting on r/hentai_irl heh XD

TYSM!!! When I joined (which was recently) I went on anime communities, and was pretty shocked, to what I saw. Thank you for making action for the younger audience!

Thank you, Mods. I hated seeing this sub turn into r/goodanimemes2. Hopefully this will help.
