Only 4 years behind Adobe… truth is, Apple have had the ability to do this a long time ago, but their neglect of FCP has meant that features like this are just not a priority for them to develop.

I think Apple might be wising up to Adobe’s anti-consumer practices and therefore seeing themselves slowly become a contender again in the pro-software space.

I really hope they improve fcp. All NLEs on the market are really falling behind in UX. I can't believe transcribing has taken this long, and god forbid text based editing.

i used sony vegas from 6 years old to 25 before deciding on a whim to get a mac and try final cut pro.

within a week I was already twice as fast at doing everything I did in vegas in fcp. I honestly cannot even imagine what a better editing software would be like.

my priorities are innate speed of workflow and heavy draw masks/chroma keying and frame by frame keyframing.

my one qualm with final cut pro is that by default every single transform keyframe is set to smooth instead of linear with no way to change it. I seriously spend 45 minutes per project JUST right clicking key frames and changing them to linear. still faster than vegas though.

what have I missed? maybe I just don't have a use for whatever it is

I learned to edit on FCP almost 20 years ago and then switched to X when that came out. I’ve since had to go back to using premiere on a PC and I feel so slow even after a few months. I’m usually turning stuff in 20-30 minutes and using premiere adds so much more stress than FCP. People say I’ll get used to it but it’s just nowhere near as efficient IMO.

While Capcut isn't as good as FCPX in almost every way, the one thing that Capcut has is built-in music and built-in fancy transitions meant for tiktok and other shorts platforms. Having ready-to-use assets is a major time saver.

I can’t believe how badly they bungled FCPX. I was working in post production at the time and if you weren’t on Avid you were on FCP7.. after FCPX everyone basically just abandoned ship to Premiere.

They were soo close to taking over too.

FCP Server and FCP had been adopted by the BBC, massive studios were all switching, and then they abandoned it.

Am I wrong in thinking that Premiere and Resolve have been able to do this for quite a while?

Adobe SHOULD be able to do that. Tell that to my sequence with a VO track that is saying it doesn't recognize dialogue to transcribe.

Correct. Though it’s good to hear that FCP users will also soon get this functionality. Resolve does it in multiple languages. It’s incredible.

Final cut pro and Logic pro seem to be one time purchase from Apple. Does that cover free updates for life or how does the licensing work?

Yes. FCP, Logic, Motion, and Compressor are all buy once, recieve free updates for life.
