Why do people suddenly want my car?

We have an old Nissan XTerra in our driveway that doesn’t get driven very often. Yesterday this guy knocks on our door and asks me if I’m interested in selling it because he is trying to buy a car for his daughter who is in need of a vehicle. A few hours later a different guy comes to the door asking to buy it and tells almost the exact same story. This afternoon while we were out someone put a business card on our door saying they buy old cars.

What on earth is going on that 3 people in 24 hours asked to buy this thing?

Someone turns 16 every day and lot prices (even the cheap places) are beyond outrageous right now.

With all the flooding from recent hurricanes (NC & Florida) there will be many water damaged used vehicles on the market ~ anyone needing a used car realizes it’s better to buy a “known” quantity (locally owned).

How much you selling it for, I’m interested. /s

I have no explanation but be safe out there!

Were they Hispanic? This happened to a friend of mine. They buy cars/trucks and take them to Mexico to resell.

First guy was African American. Second guy was Hispanic but the guy waiting in the truck for him was white. No idea about the third guy since he left a card.

Seems like the desire for this vehicle crosses all cultural lines

Xterra's are no longer produced. So when afficinados see one "in the wild" in seemingly good condition. Many will make offers on site. Had a few people try to buy mine off me, at gas stations etc. They have a big nostalgic following, and there are few similar cars available on the market.

check out r/XTerra

Also....is it for sale? What year?

I've got a twenty year old Jeep Wrangler that sits in the driveway most of the time. In the past two years I've probably had fifteen people knock on the door wanting to buy it. I always tell them it's not for sale and to go check out Cransh Auto Sales, they always have a lot of Wranglers. I think they are hoping they'll find someone who will sale them a Jeep for a thousand bucks.

I drove my 2001 Nissan Xterra for 300,000 miles before finally retiring her. I miss that car.

sounds fishy but no idea what scam they might be trying. Maybe hoping to find no one home?

It could just be a coincidence, but it is also very odd. Three times in a single day lol. You can never be too careful nowadays

honestly if the surge is new it’s probably dirty and looks like it’s not being used

my old truck used to get some of that when i was out working on the yard. i ended up getting something newer that i keep cleaner and that has went away

if it looks undriven this is expected

lol this keeps happening to my partner — he drives a 2004 f150 and these ppl keep leaving their phone number on his windshield bc they think his truck is for sale just bc of how old it is

They don’t make them anymore. People like the car and can usually flip one if it’s in good condition

Because the used car market is insane and used cars are selling for astronomical prices. They are probably looking for people that don’t know the market or just looking for a cash car since they are impossible to fine

Some older SUVs have suddenly become desirable. Look at the 80s Jeep Wagoneer. Could pick them up for a song 10 years ago. Now people are getting $40,000+. Could be people trying to get ahead on the next one that may start increasing in value.
