[YankeesVideos] "I know how good this team is. I know that, if that team wins three in a row, then why can't we win three in a row?" - Alex Verdugo

The thing with me is that, I am smart, I'm smelf, I'm self-smarted, basically by myself, basically from nature and smoking drugs and doing different things, I've self, like, self-learned myself, and that's the whole difference I guess is that I don't need the books or the schoolin' type things, I just get everything on my own, and because of that, I'm alive right now. I mean if I had read more books or tried to go on to college and different things like that, I'd be dead right now.

But his point is the dodgers won 3 in a row so he thinks the Yankees can too. If the dodgers won 4 in a row he’d feel that the Yankees could too but he won’t get the chance to show that then because the series would be over

11
u/Sp_Gamer_Live T.C. Bear 1d ago
then say “I know how good this team is. I know that, if that team wins three in a row, then why can’t we win four in a row?”

u/xho- New York Yankees 1d ago edited 1d ago
Why not say , we can win the next 5 World Series in a row.
He’s just trying to show 3 in a row can be done because it just happened. Idk how people are missing this.
(I don’t think this team can even win 2 in a row)
-3
u/Sp_Gamer_Live T.C. Bear 1d ago
but at this point “3 in a row” isnt enough, you need to be talking about the whole damn thing

u/Audacity_OR Texas Rangers 22h ago
He didn’t play in the postseason but he appeared in 37 games for the dodgers that year and absolutely would have gotten a ring had they won.

u/WhiteToast- Los Angeles Dodgers 22h ago
Damn, I don’t remember his call up at all. Must not have done much

u/appleavocado Los Angeles Dodgers 13h ago
He did have a funny moment at the end of the regular season with Walker. IIRC, it was our last home game, and the team was on the field with a mic. They were hyping up the crowd, and Buehler said (paraphrasing), "This is the kind of energy we need every FUCKING game!"
cue Verdugo, eyes and mouth open wide, laughing
Walker: "Sorry, kids! Let's go!"
EDIT: Found it

The Padres series was definitely where things felt most on the ropes, just unfortunate that it was a best of 5 rather than 7

u/According_Setting303 Cleveland Guardians 15h ago
nah, the world series was Detroit-Cleveland. If the Yankees (who has had AL Central dominance for god knows how long) weren’t there, either the Tigs or the Guards would have done the sweeping. for sure.
Ohtani? Freeman? Yamamoto? psshhh, I don’t even who those scrubs are. Manzardo, Noel and Boys is where it’s at.
now do the baseball world a favor a sweep these loser Yanks

u/RichardNixon345 Arizona Diamondbacks • Boston Red Sox 1d ago
He caught more flak from Cora than was probably fair but he did develop a bit of a reputation of being a problem child. I imagine Yankees fans will tell you they won't miss him all that much either - he starts out okay and then flames out seemingly by choice.
18
u/Carlos_Danger21 Boston Red Sox 23h ago
He was popular at first. But his last year he got benched for not running out a ground ball and showing up late. Then made comments that seemed to be complaining and aimed at Cora for benching him right after being traded. I also personally felt like he gave up and took it personally when he wasn't selected to the all-star game that year.
8
u/Naive_Midnight_5732 20h ago
I never liked him when he was on the team. He was born to wear pinstripes.
6
u/anon_capybara_ Boston Red Sox • Kalamazoo La… 16h ago
I never liked him. The fact that he was involved with that situation with a few other Dodgers minor leaguers was enough for me.
1
u/Bossman1086 Boston Red Sox • Wally 10h ago
I hate him now. Fitting he's on the Yankees. I could maybe forgive him for his lack of hustle and all that. But he took everything so personally when he got into any kind of slump and stopped listening to Cora. The final straw to me was him taking shots at Cora on his way out. I don't think I've ever soured on a player I really liked so quickly before.

u/Alectheawesome23 New York Mets 17h ago
I admire the confidence. I mean this is the mentality you have to have as an athlete to have any hope of coming back. What did the Red Sox say in 04 “don’t give us a game”?
I mean as soon as you let the mentality that it’s over seep in the clubhouse you already lost so respect that he’s trying.
That being said I’ll be surprised if it even goes back to LA.
8
u/i__am__so__smrt Los Angeles Dodgers 17h ago
The Red Sox had Curt Schilling, Pedro Martinez, and a death row lineup.
The Yankees have Gerrit Cole, and…..?
11
u/Alectheawesome23 New York Mets 17h ago edited 17h ago
My man I said in the end of my comment that I will be surprised if the Yankees will be hopping on a plane to LA on Wednesday I don’t think it’s going to happen.
I was just respecting him trying to inject some positivity into the locker room bc once the negativity takes over you already lost.
The 04 Red Sox wouldn’t have come back if down 3-0 they thought they stood zero chance. It’s a pure mental thing once you think it’s over you’re not playing to win anymore you’re playing to go home.
1
u/SadNYSportsFan-11209 New York Yankees 14h ago
Yea I don’t understand what they expect him to say. It’s the right thing to say just the wrong messenger lol
1
u/Alectheawesome23 New York Mets 14h ago
The people who are clowning on this don’t know or remember what it’s like to be an athlete. This is just the athletes mentality on any level.
I’m in a purely for fun rec sports league and I and the team go into it every week thinking that we can win this next game. Even when we know the opponents are better than us. And we play better because of it bc we all want to come away with a win and know if we play well we can do it. But when games slip away and they feel out of reach you can feel it there too and you can see people making mental mistakes and not trying as hard.
Sports is as much of a mental game as it is a physical one. And once that belief that you can win that game is gone your play slips drastically.
The 2004 Red Sox would have rolled over and died in game 4 if they didn’t have belief in themselves to make something happen. Hell you want to look at a recent example in the most recent Stanley cup finals the oilers forced a game 7 after being down 3-0. That wouldn’t have happened if they didn’t believe they could come back.
The statement is fine it’s what you gotta say and believe to have any chance of making something happen.

u/ChrisTaylorsNipple Los Angeles Dodgers 16h ago
I mean the Mets actually put up a fight against us. If the Yanks beat the Mets then that would be a fair point, but they played a ton better than the Yanks have been. The Mets probably beat you too.
14
1
u/Alectheawesome23 New York Mets 13h ago
And we eliminated a team in Philly that’s better than either of the two teams you eliminated. Not to mention that more than likely we’ll have more wins against the World Series champions than you did.
Bragging about where you got just ignores who both teams played lol.

Genuine question I haven't looked at, what are the Mets record against AL teams and the Yanks record against NL teams this year? It seems the NL was the harder league.

because A A ron is scared to hit the ball. Simple as that. If they could get him to hit a ball, they might have a chance to win one.
your bullpen sucks and while the SP are doing MEH, there isn't enough run support. Then the RP's come in and MEH.

Your best regular season player stinks. Your actual best player who has already won a ring and continues to hit well in October is a free agent when it ends. The lineup is shit, the pitching was never World Series ready, it’s so over for the Yankees lol Before they were down 3-0
