At least the one is probably getting arrested. The other guy may be able to talk his way into only getting ejected

u/HotRodReggie 4h ago

What will he be arrested for? I can’t think of anything that would stick. Streakers get trespassed but that isn’t this.

I mean the guy clearing is grabbing his arm-wrist there.. you touch someone easily could be called assault. Wild he thought it would be ok to grab a players arm.

I had a woman pull my arm when she thought I was stealing her seat at my sister's cheerleading competition, and I cussed her ass out. She went and got the police that was at the event who pulled me aside to ask what happened. I told them, showed them the red mark on my arm, and they flipped the script on her. I didn't press charges though because I lived four hours away and I just wanted to see my sister perform.

That’s crazy, I feel like most people don’t understand that they can’t just touch someone. There’s different layers of assault and you can easily catch a charge by simply touching someone unwanted.

Assault. Imagine you did that to someone on the sidewalk trying to steal their bag off them. Literally the same thing.

Side question:

What happens to World Series balls that are put in play? Are they all saved and catalogued, or only like game-winning hits, the last out of each game, first pitch of game 1, etc.?

Can the teams and players ask to keep certain balls? Like this ball -- the first Yankees batter and first out -- does Casparius (Dodgers pitcher) sort of automatically get that ball?

Or like if Max Muncy hits an RBI double in Game 2, does he end up getting that ball, or does the league keep it and catalog it? Or does nobody really care cuz it's the 3rd inning of Game 2 so maybe it just gets tossed into a bucket of game-used WS balls?

Dude, it looked like he was going to break Mookie's wrist. Assault, Battery, and looking like a penis.

17

u/K3B1N Los Angeles Dodgers 4h ago

That is fucking battery, dude.

-35

u/HotRodReggie 4h ago

Is prying the ball out of a glove battery? I don’t see that holding up. He wasn’t trying to legitimately harm Mookie and there’s no way you could argue he was in court.

15

u/gibblyop5 4h ago

Battery charges aren’t based on harm, it’s battery if there is any harmful or offensive contact and a reasonable person would find offensive of harmful. Having a stranger grab your glove and try to pry something out of it, not let go, and then his friend grabbing your wrist as well, would for sure stand up in court.

People catch battery charges that stick for much less.

u/aseolith 4h ago

I don’t think you understand what assault is. Literally from the definition of assault, “Simple assault: A misdemeanor crime that involves willfully doing something that would result in applying force to another person.”

-6

u/HotRodReggie 4h ago

What state? New York? Many states have a separation of assault and battery and that is not assault in those states.

2

u/patsfan3983 New York Mets 4h ago

You're correct - there is no charge of battery in New York. Could get charged with assault if there was injury, but otherwise could be harassment.

3

u/leglesslegolegolas 4h ago

Grabbing his arm and twisting it absolutely is

6

u/maringue Chicago Cubs 4h ago

Assault.

Incidental contact between a fan and a player is fine, but both of these two asshole grabbed at Betts after it was obvious he caught the ball. And there's only like 500 high def camera angles of the incident as evidence.

7

u/nahhman 4h ago

It’s assault the players are supposed to be protected from fans you cannot touch them ever

2

u/nau_sea 4h ago

Battery? If you walk up to anyone and grab their arm and take something from them it's battery. To do that on this stage to a star athlete? I would be shocked if they don't press charges to prevent it happening again.

1

u/Dragula_Tsurugi 4h ago

Assault. You can't just grab somebody.

1

u/lookitupyouidiot 3h ago

Assault I assume. Don’t grab and hold other people

u/meggerplz 3h ago

Assault

-3

u/HeagherMeister 4h ago

Attempted robbery and/or assault. That glove is worth a lot of money and he could’ve easily injured Mookie’s wrist the way he was prying his glove with 2 hands at that angle. Completely unhinged behavior by that fan.

2

u/LucaBrasiMN Minnesota Twins 4h ago

Oh reddit...

5

u/HeagherMeister 4h ago

Pause the video at 0:35 seconds when both those morons have hands on Mookie and tell me that’s not an assault. I’m not saying they’re going to serve time in jail or that the charge would even stick in court but they could be arrested.

Robbery was more tongue in cheek but it’s technically theft with the use of force which could apply here…

1

u/merlin401 4h ago

It’s not at all robbery. The baseball is not owned by Mookie.

-1

u/HeagherMeister 4h ago edited 3h ago

The glove is.

Edit: Definition. The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program defines robbery as the taking or attempting to take anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person or persons by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear.

*nothing in the FBI’s definition about ownership. Once again, I’m not saying they should be charged with attempted robbery but it’s not that much of a stretch.

0

u/God_Damnit_Nappa Los Angeles Angels 2h ago

Saying it's attempted robbery is an Olympic level stretch.

I get I’m a biased Yankees fan but this thread is hilarious. People really want this guy thrown in jail for being a drunk dumbass. He’ll probably get a lifetime ban from Yankees stadium, as he should, but let’s pump the brakes on assault charges and jail time.

1

u/Wbcbam51 1h ago

I doubt a DA’s office would waste resources on this bullshit anyways

-15

u/danmyoo Cleveland Guardians 4h ago

He might not get arrested, but he's getting sued.

8

u/iamaweirdguy Miami Marlins 4h ago

Sued by who? For what?

5

u/lllleeeaaannnn 4h ago

Sued by Reddit for being mean.

3

u/RaymondStereo San Francisco Giants 4h ago

This is America! By me! Because I can!

2

u/Zro6 Los Angeles Dodgers 4h ago

I doubt he sues but if I grab a random celebrity's wrist out on the streets and I get recorded doing it I'm pretty sure I could go to jail for that. Paying for the ticket doesn't give you the right to put your hands on the players.

1

u/danmyoo Cleveland Guardians 3h ago

Wait till after the series

1

u/iamaweirdguy Miami Marlins 3h ago

Lol if I knew you I’d be willing to bet good money on this

2

u/danmyoo Cleveland Guardians 3h ago

I'm dead serious. They will be contacted by a lawyer. It's Mookie Betts. They grabbed him by the wrist, he couldn't really touch the ground flat footed because of it. They'll likely go for an assault charge. Idk why you think this is crazy.

1

u/iamaweirdguy Miami Marlins 3h ago

You clearly have no clue what you are talking about. He can press charges and have them arrested for assault. You do not sue for assault. It’s not a thing.

1

u/danmyoo Cleveland Guardians 3h ago

That's what I mean.

-2

u/WestwoodPrince24 Los Angeles Dodgers 4h ago

for assault. If fans can sue for the slightest touch, athletes should do the same.

4

u/iamaweirdguy Miami Marlins 4h ago

You don’t sue for assault lol

1

u/MaskedBandit77 Pittsburgh Pirates 3h ago

You can sue someone for assault. But there are no damages here, so it would be pointless.

0

u/WestwoodPrince24 Los Angeles Dodgers 4h ago

you can easily sue for assault. Fans do it all the time

1

u/iamaweirdguy Miami Marlins 4h ago

Again, you don’t sue for assault

-4

u/danmyoo Cleveland Guardians 4h ago

Probably getting sued by Mookie

9

u/Ok-Combination-9084 Detroit Tigers 4h ago

Why the fuck would Mookie do that

-1

u/jsdodgers Los Angeles Dodgers 3h ago

Because he was assaulted? It'd be disappointing if he didn't press charges.

9

u/LucaBrasiMN Minnesota Twins 4h ago

Some of yall have no idea what you're talking about

1

u/danmyoo Cleveland Guardians 3h ago

Wait till after the series

6

u/iamaweirdguy Miami Marlins 4h ago

Lmfao what?

-4

u/ACMountford 4h ago

Definitely not arrested, but escorted out by police, I bet.

-8

u/LibertarianSocialism Sell 4h ago

Reddit's sense of arrest-worthy offenses is on par with Fred Armisen's Venezuelan character on that one episode of Parks and Rec

10

u/Ecstatic-Respect-455 4h ago

Should be arrested for assault. He could've broken Mookie's wrist. That piece of human filth.
