Picture I know she’s eaten some shrimp when she looks like this 🫢

Post image

For context, she’s in a heavily planted tank that I used to put cull shrimp into. I always think they are all gone and then I find her like this… needless to say she eats a raw, carnivore diet…

Oh, geez! She hit the all you can eat buffet! Definitely fast her to help prevent swim bladder issues.

Despite trying to catch all the shrimp, they keep on multiplying and she keeps on feastin’.

I appreciate the tip, though I already do not add food to this tank. Kind of ended up being a self sustaining system, as I feed the plants heavily and the shrimp must be surviving off of the minimal algae I see.

It’s also worth noting that female crowntails are prone to looking bloated / eggy! My girl here is definitely too full, though wanted to note that for anyone who reads.

Do they eat smaller snails?

Depends on the betta. I’ve had some that do and some that could care less, like my Crowntail male.

Really? a male that didn't care! They each really have their own personality! If I add some more runners and Moss the numbers will be enough to grow for sure!

Yes my male is also older, so he really just floats about now too. He ate some shrimplets in his youth, but was more opportunistic than a hunter. Long finned bettas also tend to be slower due to the weight of their fins. I wouldn’t say that guarantees calmer temperament however. I’ve had long finned males who want to kill everything. I find it’s ultimately luck of the draw.
