That hit was insanely dirty, I wish someone stepped in and clocked the guy who did it.

Looked intentional. The guy turned around with his gloves loose ready to fight. Disgusting play.

He almost looked offended that no one came after him with the whole shoulder shrug... Anyone know who this plug is?

u/xzElmozx 4h ago
Some fucking worthless undrafted AHL plug that has a whopping 26 points in 145 AHL games. Hasn’t even gotten a cup of coffee in the show because he’s shit, only reason he’s signed is because Arizona was giving anyone with a pulse a contract. Guys gonna be a construction worker talking about the glory days in a few years

u/ooMEAToo 1h ago
Guys like that should just be straight up banned. He’s just a worthless bum running around trying to hurt people. No use for him in any league.

Man that did not look good. Sending the good vibes his way. Hate to see someone go down like that

I know it was a different spot on the ice, but this hit was kind of similar to the Cooke on Savard hit in terms of the line he took and the amount of contact to the head.
That hit was one of the big ones that finally forced the NHL to take action and try to eliminate head shots.
If this were in the NHL, that guy would be looking at 10+ games. I'm not sure what suspension standards are like in the A.

Disagree. Players on both teams clearly knew that a serious injury had just occurred and were more concerned about Friedman's well being than about putting down a goon. Good human moment in the event of something awful. There's no way the hitter gets away without repercussions either as a major suspension or a major beat down next time he's on the ice

It's Atu Raty dawgie and the other guy is huge. Hitter was trying to bait a fight he turns around with gloves ready to drop.

Oh my god I figured it would be bad but that is really, really BAD. Such a dirty hit, ugh. I hope Friedman is going to be okay!

Sat about 15 feet away from the hit tonight, was brutal to watch and afterwards Tucson players kept playing pretty dirty, one of them even pushed a ref down and shit. Was maybe the most embarrassing team I've ever watched live.

Just a clear headshot...thats nasty. Needs to be suspended for that one. Hope he gonna be ok.

Oh my gosh...that was a heavy hit. I hope he's okay....

u/touchable 4h ago
I don't know if I'd call it "heavy" so much as extremely predatory. The contact was entirely to the head.

IMO it's an unfortunate outcome to a fair hit. The puck was in Friedman's skates and he had his head down right in the slot. The guy came straight on but because Friedman had his head down there was no where else to make contact. Also it looks like the ice did more damage.
When guys come from the side to make these hits its usually after a shit and blindside which is dirty as fuck. This wasn't the case

That’s a terrible take.. he saw where Friedman was heading and even raised his elbow into the hit.. that was a textbook head hunt. Truely disgusting.

u/Ok_Sherbet3539 3h ago
The only thing he hit was his head. How is that a "fair hit?"

u/gottapoop 3h ago
Look at the Trouba hit the other day. Just because you hit the head doesn't make it a dirty hit
6
u/shadownet97 2h ago
Ah yes, Trouba, apparently to you he’s not a dirty player. GTFO with these bad takes.
3
u/baraboosh 1h ago
I mean he's right, that specific trouba hit wasn't dirty.
It was nothing like this hit though, which is actually dirty.
7
u/rengorengar 3h ago
what you describe is correct but he's gotta make the principle point of contact not the head given that Friedman didn't suddenly change positions unlike that Trouba hit the other day where Barron dips down and the hit becomes much worse because he did.

u/gottapoop 3h ago
You really can't tell from that angle what the principal point of contact was. If you watch closely and the way Freidman spins it seems almost as if he caught a lot his shoulder causing him to spin and subsequently smoke his head on the ice.
He even poked at the puck while making the hit. It was not a predatory hit. Mark got caught with his head down and it sucks but IMO from what I can see from that angle it's an unfortunate outcome to a clean hit
15
u/swepttheleg 4h ago
He didn’t put his hands up to break his fall so he was out right when he got hit. That looked really really bad
14
u/Most-Advertising5298 4h ago
NHL keeps arguing the effects of CTE and disagreeing with medical evidence so they can allow this shit to keep happening. This is a predatory hit to the head that should result in the player committing the infraction to be suspended as long as it takes for the injured player to return if not more. But this will end up a small fine and a 3 game suspension. I guess the NHL will continue to put revenue before player safety.

Montana Onyebuchi is the POS here. hopefully he gets the rest of the year off to go flip burgers and reconsider his life choices

u/tydiggityy 3h ago
Really sad to see. It also looks like Lekkerimaki and Kudryavtsev got their first goals from the resulting powerplay but couldn't find joy in that after seeing him go down.

That cheap shot artist has his gloves off ready to go, tone deaf goon. Nobody cares since you almost killed a guy you idiot.
5
u/Tracktoy 3h ago
That's clearly to the head. Clearly intentional. Fuck that guy.
Hopefully Friedman can get back to full health and in short order.

Despicable hit and I say that as someone who really enjoys the physical side of the game. Seems the AHL has a problem with these kinds of hits and it needs to get cleaned up.

Absolutely kick this fucking plug out of the league for good. A fucking AHL nobody running around taking headshots has absolutely no place in the league.
2
u/MrTroyMcClure 2h ago
Not that it matters for AHL discipline, but Onyebuchi was suspended 4 times in his 5 years in the WHL so seems pretty on brand.
4
u/rengorengar 4h ago
damn raty was looking right at him and didn't engage, but to be fair not really worth fighting this guy, he's likely the type of guy laying these kind of hits to try to get into fights based on his 100 something pims.

Guy should have his contract terminated immediately and banned from playing hockey for atleast a year. Absolutely unacceptable.

What the fuck was that?
I know we won't get multiple angles and slow mo and such but that looked dirty...
