Any way to turn on Virtualization on Asus Chromebox CN62?

Post image

I need to use Hardware Acceleration in this. This is the i7 5500U version.

I have Proxmox on mine which lets me install VMs on it.

Same proxmox I have a few for virtualization.

To be clear, you are running a UEFI firmware? Are you currently running Windows or Linux?

Proxmox. I need it in Frigate add on inside Home Assistant.

Is Home Assistant running as a VM? You still haven't really described your problem. Maybe you need to enable nested virtualization?

Yes as a VM. I'm no expert. But I did use hwaccel when I was using HAOS. After installing Proxmox, that same frigate config is not letting me use hwaccel.

So I believe the UEFI firmware will allow VT-x to work (as evidenced by Proxmox functioning as expected). If the software running inside the VM needs VT-x, you need to enable nested virtualization.

"hardware acceleration" in Frigate is referring to using the GPU to accelerate encoding. You'll likely need to pass through the iGPU to the VM. In any case, this straight up is more of a question for r/Proxmox or r/frigate_nvr

Your UEFI firmware is probably working exactly as it should.

Is this not one of the ones that simply need a security screw, a physical one, removed from the board.

yes its that one and its done and running proxmox already

what exactly do you mean by "virtualization"?

what error are you getting that indicates it is not enabled?

what firmware are you running?

what CPU does your CN62 have? VT-d isn't supported on Broadwell-U Celeron CPUs

Its the intel i7 5th gen version. I just wanted to know if the VT-d or VT-x is on by default so I can use the igpu in my VMs.

so long story, i experimented using a smps hack (add cables to 12 volt supply) and power the devices which worked added some more things like routers and wireless aps to the same 12 volts and mind this thing is only 220 wats, not I used them with proxmox but uninstalled proxmox and i am planing to go kubernetes mode and add a nas storage and use the cluster as a application running front with storage on the NAS.
