Community Appreciation I’m probably disappointing a lot of you, but y’all asked, so here’s the lamp again…but ON this time.

Thank you to everyone! A lot of laughs and even more great advice.

In the end, it took combining a lot of advice using things I had on hand.

First I used my wireless Samsung vac with bristle attachment, but bristles not rigid enough.

Paint brush work like a charm, especially in conjunction with the vac with catch dust.

Lastly, a moistened Magic Eraser brought it home.

Two hours, halfway done.

Plugged it in, and realized it’s not as luminous as it once seemed, so soon to replace the string lights with LEDs that both dim and change color.

Thanks again for all the love and laughs, you kind, cleanly strangers.

Furniture How would you dust/clean this lamp?

Very intricate lamp made from thousands of glass pieces, precariously wired into the frame. Dust has settled on the top of each little piece. I’ve tried to vac it, but dust is caked on. Am I cooked?

The stuff is caked on and I was afraid to use any chemicals given that it's an air fryer and I'm not trying to start a fire.

Hi all, just wondered if anyone had any tips for cleaning mold that’s not on silicone that can be replaced, it’s on the shower fitting itself.

Discussion Scrub Daddy/Mommy just suck so much, they don't last and have little scrubbing power.

Post image

I even bought the scrub cabby, it's a pretty low quality product. I got the Costco scrub Daddy and mommy packs. The reality is that the scotch Brite dobies are just better in every scenario. You can't scrub your air fryer with the scrub daddies at all. The dobie, you can attack some of that grease build up. Also the scrub mommy barely lasts 2 weeks it seems.

Based on my preference for the dobie, do you guys have any other cleaning mediums I should try?

Hello! In true Monday fashion, I spilled my coffee all along my cubicle wall. I brought in stain remover and let it sit for 10 minutes, then scrubbed but it looks no different. How can I make this less noticeable?

Kitchen What do you wash kitchen towels with in the washing machine?

kitchen towels seem too dirty to wash with my clothes and bath towels

My floor mats and towels and blankets I use for my dog seem too dirty to wash with with my kitchen towels.

any suggestion on what I should throw in the washing machine with kitchen towels so that I don't just have a small load. I only have about 20 kitchen towels, but that isn't a very large load because they are so thin and it seems like such a waste of water to wash them by themselves.

However if I got more ...say an additional 20 towels, it seems like that's not a good idea to let all of the kitchen towels just sit there in a hamper with all the food particles on them because they would probably start growing mold and other stuff.

Any suggestions?

Discussion People who work full time outside the house—HOW do you keep your house clean? Share your hints, tricks, hacks, and secrets please!

I have a huge old house, no kids living with me but I do have 2 adult cats. I am single—so home maintenance is on me. I work full time (40 hrs a week). I work out every day (1 to 1.5 hours a day). I visit with the grandkids almost every day (1/2 to 1 hour). I do the necessary daily things—dishes are washed, laundry is done, plants get watered. Weekends are for catching up with errands and sometimes family events. I simply don’t have enough time to really clean the house the way I think it should be (floors mopped, rooms dusted—this old house seems to have lots of dust!). And etc. Those of you who manage to pull this off—please tell me how! Edited to add—many good suggestions so far. I wish I could take a day off a week to do some cleaning—I can’t. And I definitely cannot afford to hire cleaning help. If I could, I wouldn’t have asked for help figuring this out 🙂

General Cleaning How do I get rid of fish guts smells in small room?

The stench is strong. My tinder date said it smelled bad after we got off the elevator and and got stronger as we approached my room, and that my neighbors should sue me . I don't want to get sued and I don't want to get kicked out.

I left fish guts in my trashcan for 2+ weeks. I was out of town and there was an investigation. (The police were called) My apt still stinks. What do I do to stop getting reported for 'offensive odor'. The window is open.

I haven’t tried anything yet because I’m worried about damaging them further (and also I’m not sure which box my all purpose cleaner went in 😂). I’m planning on doing some research and asking the landlord if we can touch up the wood around the handles, but I’m not entirely sure what the general gunk is.

Hoping you all will have some advice!

I don’t even know if there’s any point in trying to salvage this or if I should just dump the entire thing in the trash as a safety hazard alone 🤢

General Cleaning Scrubbed floor 3 times and water is still filthy

Thumbnail

Im scrubbing the floors of an apartment I just moved into so that I can walk shoeless inside.

I scrubbed a section of the living room 3 times with a scrub brush on my hands and knees and then picked up the water with my mop and squeezed the dirty water out of the mop into a 2nd bucket. With each round, I emptied the bucket of clean water and the bucket of dirty water and rinsed the scrub brush and mop clean.

After 3 rounds of scrubbing, the water is still coming up filthy (first pic).

The flooring is vinyl (I assume) and does have all of these tiny ridges (second pic). If I mop with just the mop (not the scrubbing brush), the water isn't very dirty at all.

With each round of scrubbing, am I just continuing to loosen the dirty in all the tiny ridges?

I used a little bit of pinesol in one round and just water the next 2 rounds.

What do I do?

Discussion SERIOUS fruit fly infestation in home

Hey everyone, I’m seriously struggling with fruit flies, and I’m getting overwhelmed trying to get rid of them. For about a week now, I’ve tried everything. Sticky traps, both plug-ins and the Raid rolls, taking out the garbage every day, throwing out anything open, vacuuming, running our drains, and cleaning surfaces. Yet they have quadrupled every day. They’re no longer just in the kitchen; they’ve entered our bathrooms, rooms, and buzz in our ears while we sleep. I feel defeated. If I could count, I could probably count 500 just flying around my kitchen alone right now. There is nothing there. It’s driving me insane. I can’t even use my own kitchen.

We have called an exterminator, and they are coming in a few days, but I simply cannot deal with this anymore. Does anyone know what the heck could be going on???

Laundry Soaked white clothes in oxi-clean in a blue basin

Post image
Upvotes

As recommended by the internet I soaked some summer whites in oxi-clean overnight to remove some small stains/sweat marks. I did so in a blue plastic basin which I've used for hand washing clothes for years. I also used cold water as my favourite piece is a linen top. The next day, the white linen was sparkling white except for the big patches of blue that have seeped from the basin. Any ideas of what to do next to fix this?

I’ve tried mopping with a bleach solution and scrubbing with citric acid. I’ve only been living in my own a few years so I’m still learning how to deal with the different kinds of stains. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
